In defense of stage racing, you all fail to understand is that stage racing is the true style of racing they used to do in F1, Le Mans, and even NASCAR used to do until NASCAR got sponsored by Winston and started racing the entire race with no stopping (except for pits, cautions etc).
I hope all other pro racing series return to their roots and start stage racing again because it really is more exciting than the "new" style originally introduced by NASCAR and Winston back in the day.

Why do tires wear more going around the lower part of the track as opposed to going around the upper part of the track?
In theory you should wear your tires more over time by going around the high side of the track since it is the longest way around the track and you're actually traveling a further distance during the race.
