Car fag needed! Im 18yo and looking at buying a car. I have pretty tight budget but want something i can mod later on. Insurance prices are absolute aids in UK for my age so nothing too powerful as much as id like it. Anyone got any ideas of cars?
Ive looked at mx5's MR2's not really sure what else i should look at.

When I was around your age I had a Lexus soarer, it was pretty decent and insurance wasn't that bad.
Also look into to getting traders insurance, it's fairly cheap and will insure you for any car.

Best advice is get a cheap old hatchback. Don't mod it, just save your money and buy something actually nice when you're 21 and hopefully have some no claims bonus and the insurance won't be £1500.

As I have given myself in to the cult, I am obligated to say RX7s. But as that's probably not feasible, I'm gunna say Celicas. They're apparently cheap and pretty reliable, and alright fun despite the wrong drivetrain. And from personal experience, Integras also a good one to look for.

a more powerful model. You can put 2.0, 2.5 or 2.8 engine, they are all comptible with 2.0
manual gearbox which is dirt cheap. You can look for a crashed 5-series e39 for a swap.
Basically, you can squeeze any bmw engine in e36: m52b20(tub), m52b25(tub), m52b28(tub), s52, m54b30, s54
or a bmw v8 if ur mad: m62b35, m62b44
Just swap it after u pass tech and keep stock exhaust and you'll be MINT

I know the UK isnt great for car owners (especially young ones), I have the same problem. OP look at a golf plus with the 1.9TDi. They go cheap now, family car so insurers seem to like them and that engine is DAMN FINE. Get one of the ones before the the body remodel and the eco shit coming in and I would still put money on one of those things keeping up with your average sports car on a handling circuit.
And good luck finding an Integra not modded to shit. Saw a 95 gsr with 160k miles no mods going for 8k.
