DEVELOPMENTS MAY 24 >US backed rebels liberate Qartaj Village in northern Raqqa >Syrian Army, Russian Marines liberate several points in east Palmyra >ISIS captures Tal Sawanah in east Homs >ISIS launches dangerous night raid on the Palmyra-Homs highway >ISIS hands out candy in celebration of Jableh, Tartous terror attacks >SDF fighters began offensive to expel ISIS from Syria’s Raqqa >Syrian, Russian airstrikes raid rebel supply route in western Aleppo >Syrian Army kills 25+ jihadists at the Zarah Thermal Station >Key Syrian airbase ‘partly destroyed’ by ISIS attack >Islamists unleash massive bombardment on Shiite enclave in Idlib >Iraqi Army captures Sajar police station from ISIS
My own opinion. I do not foresee the Kurds successfully liberating al-raqqa. The city itself is heavily defended and Isis troops are deeply entrenched there. Kurds are not good fighters, their strength come from the coalition air strikes and better trained foreign fighters... what I do foresee is the Kurds being repelled, but a large mass of casualties on the part of both sides.
Nathan Roberts
>their strength come from the coalition air strikes
Don't all western armies fight this way anyway? Here in italy they're investing crapload of money into the f35 program.

maybe they're not that bad after all lads

I don't think ISIS will fight to the last man for Raqqa. If the situation gets bad they will withdraw to Deir Ez Zor

Let me give an example, during the battle for ayn al-arab, Kurds were desperate in holding the town. Huge numbers of Kurds and foreigners were pouring into the town and the Islamic state was still advancing and it was obvious that the border town would eventually fall. The tide turned once the coalition air strikes occurred and all successive battles have, effectively, been the result of air strikes. Dozens to hundreds of Islamic state troops are often killed off before and during the battles to liberate villages and towns in Syria, which is why Kurds have advanced as much as they have. If you look at old territorial maps, 2013-2014 specifically, you will notice Isis was advancing against everyone, especially Kurds.

>Four helicopters and 20 lorries were destroyed in a series of fires inside the T4 base last week, the images from intelligence company Stratfor suggest. >"An entire combat helicopter unit was wiped out - four helicopters in total - as well as some damage to some of the Syrian planes on the airport, and also very notably a logistic depot, likely one that was being used to supply those specific combat helicopters." >Mr Tack described Amaq's account as "very accurate", and suggested the helicopters and depot were destroyed by IS attacks.

Here is a map of Isis territory when they were at their strongest and the village of Ayn al-arab was about to collapse.

no chance of a us-backed offensive failing. coalition support capabilities are much better than russian. also since us troops are actively involved they are going to provide them with everything they can. that goes for the russians too, they were involved in lattakia to some extend which is a very hard terrain to fight. and still managed to clear the whole place out because they had absolute priority in air strikes/support.
Luke Peterson

Control of roadways is important and without the coalition, all of Raqqa and eventually all of northern hasaka would have fallen under control of ISIS.

This desu, they are probably just captured, but it is also much more likely they are using the SAA variant of their MRLS which is some Russian/Soviet design, those are quite popular all over Syria.
Don't know if they trucked over any captured American hardware, even an MRLS is a big prize and they wouldn't want to risk it being hit while moving it across the desert.
Eli Gray
oh those are redundant but i don't think usa has gave mlrs to anybody in the area i know for sure the iraqi army doesn't have it and use the Tunguska

22Behold, I will cast her onto a bed of sickness, and those who commit adultery with her will suffer great tribulation unless they repent of her deeds. 23Then I will strike her children dead, and all the churches will know that I am the One who searches minds and hearts, and I will repay each of you according to your deeds.
24But I say to the rest of you in Thyatira, who do not hold to her teaching and have not learned the so-called deep things of Satan: I will place no further burden upon you. 25Nevertheless, hold fast to what you have until I come. 26And to the one who is victorious and continues in My work until the end, I will give authority over the nations. 27He will rule them with an iron scepter and shatter them like potterya—just as I have received authority from My Father. 28And I will give him the morning star.
