Walter (with German surname)

Walter Weiß?

No and the name is actually from a baseball player and infamous racist. Tyrus Cobb

>infamous racist
That was slander by some reporter

Mostly yes (a Jew reporter at that). Cobb supported blacks in the MLB early on, but he was still a rich white guy from 19th century Georgia, so racism was expected.

>not racist
>literally slapped a black elevator operator for "being uppity"

I looked it up, it's John, but how do you say it? "Jow"? "Jay-oh:?
It's a very foriegn sounding name but not in a good exotic way, just in a weird way.

>GoT
Yeah, I was surprised to see that in an English setting

John is a fairly common name here and most immigrants anglicize their names after a while. How do you pronounce it?

curtis

I think it's sort of weird here, the only other people I've heard of with it are blacks

That's the name that defines Portugal all on its own, just like Nigel does England or Mircea Romania. You can't judge a cultural cornerstone like that. Whatever you think of Portugal as a whole, that's also what you think of the name Joao.

I suck at commenting on names tbqh. ='(

Dario

M. Tremblay ?

Nah. That's one of the biggest problems for anglos speaking portuguese. The nasal sounds.

Not sure it's possible to explain it w/o an audio. Post an audio portubro. :3

That didn't help at all. Why is Portuguese even a thing? Speak fucking Spanish

Who??

How about mine? I wanna know what people think it sounds like.

It's one of those either incredibly red neck names or incredibly negro names, depends where you live.

Gary

>OH JUST LIKE SPONGE BOB´S PET

Fuck off

Mar-Kello? I like it

Aleksander is my uncle, we call him Aleks or Ali cause we're Slavs and we never use a person's full name if there's a better option.

You pronounce it with frog J, so it's like Ju-an-o.

Abu Benis?

Francisco

OH JUST LIKE SPONGE BOB´S PET

>Be German
>Your name is Marco or Mario

Fuck off

Marcel is an old fashioned but still somewhat common name in québec and nouveau-brunswick

they call me joao, not joão

Another João here.

You pronounce the J as in English, so that's easy.

The first o you pronounce as a "oo", so that's easy as well.

The "ão" is harder, since the a would be an "uh" and the o would be a "oo", but you nasal them together as a sequence (i.e. you pinch your nose).

Like so: vocaroo.com/i/s1VHxjCsUKVD

No

Mar-sell-o

I'm dumb. I've heard of Marcel before

joao lima?

literally "monkey" in my country

youtu.be/Uvq8nOtNKRM

Borja, it is a rich kid's name but i am poor

YOU MEAN LIKE GARY OAK HAHA

vocaroo.com/i/s0l0iLazuz2N

Basically, but with an extra "oo" at the end and a J at the beggining (like the "s" in vision, not the j in jam)

Are there any names that are common in your country but pronounced oddly in your region?

For example in my area Gary is always pronounced "Geary" and Alex is always "Alek"

I AM WHITE AND RICH FUCK YOU

joao lima no conoce Sup Forums, pero no dire mas, somos muy pocos joaos en chile
