Democrat here...

Democrat here. Can anyone explain why in Cthulhu's holy name would anyone support minimum wage much less minimum wage increases?

It harms people's ability to create their own business in order to lift them from poverty and tramples people's freedom of choice, a hallmark of the liberal party. I do not understand to save my life, why my party supports it.

This picture is already outdated.

its $10 in CA this is really outdated

maybe it is time to divorce your party.

who honestly cares? if it benefits me, fuck America.

People who support it have in mind big corporations that rake in billions that could pay their workers more but choose not to. They fail to understand that big corporations can pay higher rates, but mid size businesses cannot. Also most supporters are in dense cities like NYCwhere everything is fucking expensive, and they don't get that $15 an hour would be OK for NYC and fuck over any business in Watertown NY.

The party overall represents my views despite some differences.

I would like to blame economic ignorance, which may account for its popularity.

But really my interpretation is that the democrat party is ruled by a small core of wealthy elites who understand perfectly well that what they're doing is class warfare. Further, at the same time they push for minimum wage increases to price our domestic labor out of the market, they also support surges of illegal immigrants who are very happy to work under the table for wages that undercut the domestic lower class.

...

Minimum wage is bullshit. It's really not the government's business if someone is willing to take a job for $5 an hour from a legitimate, legal business.

It's a balance between paying poorfags welfare and unemployedfags full benefits.

I'm a supporter of minimum wage so long as it's reasonable and changes depending on inflation. Basically, I think that having a minimum wage that companies cannot pay you less than (that stays well adjusted to the current cost of minimal, MINIMAL, living) prevents what I define as "wage slavery." There are problems with it however:

If the minimum wage is higher then the cost of outsourcing, then the host nation loses jobs and small businesses that cannot outsource cannot compete.

If the minimum wage is not kept roughly adjusted with inflation then people lobby for massive increases (see 7.50/hr in some states ->15/hr) which really punishes the people who make more then minimum wage by essentially depreciating their earnings.

Basically, I think it's a good concept when done properly and that the government has simply screwed it up like they screw up everything else they run.

The chart is outdated. It's $10 here. Services are shitty as usual.

Why the fuck does a business have to support your life for your shitty worthless minimum service?

If minimum wage was tied to inflation at least you would have a more organic minimum and not a random number chosen by people with 0 economic literacy.

It's beneficial to the politicians that advocate for this change. And the low skilled workers are not smart enough to test Minimum wage increases against history. They're thinking about it at a first stage level.

Honestly, humans are just flawed and nothing ever last because after a few generations we forget why we in acted such systems in the first place. That's the underlining cause for all of this.

I hope a comet hits this planet.

Because distorting the market has worked so well historically. Look at how well Venezuela is doing!

The original rationale for the minimum wage was that progressives wanted to put all the black people out of jobs. They haven't changed their position and the fact that it drives black unemployment hasn't changed either, but they have managed to convince the blacks that it's for their benefit.

This guy gets it.

Another example is South African apartheid. White unions lobbied for equal pay legislation for whites and blacks because they knew that blacks were going to be completely priced out, and they were.

Nutshell:

Pander to "muh feelins" and inflate the value of those who under/mal-contribute to society.
Free market dictates what the value of your work is, it's shit because you suck at X, hence you want to use government to raise the minimum amount you get paid because you don't "feel" your contribution is shit and worthy of "15" dollars when in reality you are really worth 7 maybe 8 dollars an hour.

Liberals don't understand that minimum wage hurts the poor, because liberals are fucking retarded and somehow think having no job at all is better than having a low paying job.

min wage is how you control the majority of the population too stupid to do any work whatsoever.
50% of the populous has an iq under 100.

double dubs have spoken

Collective bargaining is preferable over some random government saying what wage is "right"

If you have a country without welfare for the poor (so no food stamps, no free public schools, no housing subsidies, no Medicaid etc.), then it makes a shitload of sense to NOT have a minimum wage. Why? Because then people won't have the option to work and get welfare next to work.

But in a society where there is welfare and where poor people who work are supported by other taxpayers through welfare, which essentially amounts to corporate welfare, you really need a minimum wage.

My personal idea of a minimum wage is that it should only apply to jobs which cannot be outsourced.

A high minimum wage also encourages investments into automation and robotics, which makes a country more competitive and eliminates low wage jobs, which is good for society.

Because of the 12% rule. If 1 in 8 people can not afford food, everything collapses. People will murder your children for a half piece of moldy bread before they starve to death. Good and evil become irrelevant and the will to survive rules all. Ther min wage is there to protect you, not them.

It is a State's prerogative in the USA to support and uphold any law they wish that is not against the Constitution. That is the nature of your elected constitutional republic.

San Jose looks like cost a rica

Typical plebeian has no idea about profit margins or business.

Wages are the number 1 expenditure for any business. Wages, insurance, HR, liability, disability, workers comp, compliance, etc.

Here minimum wage is 3 dollar but also cost of living is much smaller. I thought that minimum wage in USA is at least 20 dollar.

Fucking hell.

So why not just raise it in areas that clearly and desperately need it aka NYC where a fucking studio will go for $1000+?
Make it citywide or countywide to be more precise instead of statewide.

I agree Colgate

I always thought that USA is much richer than Europe but looks like even you have higher minimum wage than they do.

t. Worked in UK for 3 years

Fuck off, Libertarian shitweed.

It will automate jobs faster.

Yes, our minimum wage is pretty good. We also have one of the longest paid vacations of any country. It's an entire 28 days.

On the other hand, they're free.

My country is a fucking piece of shit and you want to use it as a good example? FUCK YOU. The reason why Intel was in Costa Rica was because we where more competitive than China. But thanks to "La caja del seguro social" (free health care for everyone, even degenerated forging nicas), high minimal wages, and all your stupid shit. Intel finally decided to move to China.

>They fail to understand that big corporations can pay higher rates, but mid size businesses cannot.
This.
Also, even when big corporations could pay more, they just move to other country. Intel for example. You no longer see "made in Costa Rica" in newer CPUs because of stupid "Caja del seguro social", high wages, expensive electricity. The last being thanks to high taxes to support socialist shit like OP's idea of even higher minimum wage.

Just because you ask for more doesn't mean you'll get more.

>at the same time they push for minimum wage increases to price our domestic labor out of the market, they also support surges of illegal immigrants who are very happy to work under the table for wages that undercut the domestic lower class.

Fucking this!
This is exactly what is happening in Costa Rica. High minimum wages, then stupid ticos (Costa Rica's people) demand it, but they only get fired and replaced with a nica whenever is possible (people from Nicaragua, north of Costa Rica).
Also, we don't enforce any territorial law, so they have free pass. Fucking nicas. I don't really hate foreigner people who are just looking for a better life and come just to work hard and not to make trouble.
But A LOT of them come just to rob, traffic and other shit.

or just look at Costa Rica itself

automation is coming regardless of wages, chump

>The original rationale for the minimum wage was that progressives wanted to put all the black people out of jobs

ya know, i'm pretty sure it was whites in the industrial revolution that needed to feed their families

That's why China is great, and America not.
Make America Great Again.
Too bad there's no Trump equivalent or even something similar in Costa Rica. I would love to have someone like David Duke as president in my country, but this country is too cucked.

You guys realize that the wealthies nations in Europe have no minimum wage.

Better yet. Forget about that stupid minimum wage and if you don't think you get enough just quit. If you're truly useful and hard worker then you should be able to found another work place

Also 10.30 in San Jose, like it makes a difference.

Looks like someone has never struggled to get a raise.
