Preferably something Post-Rock or spacey, but recommend anything, really

The Pillows
Weebs leave this board
early MONO, Kashiwa Daisuke, World's End Girlfriend are essential
not the best probably but there's buffalo daughter
Susumu Hirasawa. All of his albums are incredible, Planet Roll Call is especially spacey
youtube.com
PIZZICATO 5
Shit, that one's great. Even if they're basically remembered for FLCL in the west, it's more of the other way around there.
Fishmans
There seems to be a lot of great recommendations in this thread, I'll definitely be checking them out
Acid Mothers Temple - Anthem of the Space
Sugar Babe
Yellow Magic Orchestra (if they count)
Happy End
Boris (obviously) m.youtube.com
Boredoms m.youtube.com
Hiperson m.youtube.com
Taj Mahal Travelers
The Blue Hearts
KICHIGAI ATSUKAI SARETA HIBI
>two threads on page 1 that are basically "hehe guys whats sum good music :D"
you are enabling this behavior if you give even a single recommendation. We have a very extensive wiki of music to select from. use that
weaboos should be publicly executed
OP. You want this band. Trust me.

Where the fuck do you think you are?
Fucking choon
youtube.com
go on Sup Forums and make a thread asking for anime recs, see what happens. mu is full of people eager to spoonfeed because it gives them a chance to show off their superior tastes in music
Toe
anime is garbage, why would i want recs for it
you dont have to like it, just using it as an example dumb fuck
For once, I didn't have to be the one posting Susumu Hirasawa. You even highlighted Planet Roll Call, my favorite album.
user I don't think you will ever know how much that means to me. I've felt like I was the only one who would ever recommend him. Everyone on Sup Forums seems to know him, but I've never seen anyone else recommend him, and I never knew why because his music is what heaven is like.
Honestly, deeply, truly and sincerely, thank you for this. It really, really means a lot to me.
>Everyone on Sup Forums seems to know him, but I've never seen anyone else recommend him
hmm... wonder why?
Acid Mothers Temple and all their various formations and subgroups, La Novia and Anthem of the Space are good starting albums. If you find yourself liking them you're in for a treat because they have crazy amounts of material
>literally millions of artists in existence
>holy fuck shit damn guys, only use the wiki that has like maybe 3,000 artists on it at best that we've already talked about for over a decade, ok?
yep, lots of niche artists ITT. definitely not all the same ones that always come up
Rec threads are fine if OP puts a little effort into it. Maybe mention one or two albums that are in the ballpark of what he wants, not "rec me anything really as long as its japanese"

While I wouldn't call it rock or spacey, I've always felt like Teruo Nakano had an outwordly feel to it.

No problem! Yeah he doesn't get mentioned a lot, it seems most know him for his anime stuff and not his solo albums unfortunately.

My Dead Girlfriend
That's just some random bands off the top of my head. Your best bet for finding Japanese music is checking out YouTube channels like Space Shower Music and Lute. You can find current shit there and then use the likes of RYM, lastfm and this board to delve further. There's also a pretty good chart from here that someone will probably post.
That's because Sup Forums is made of mega-autists. This is a good thread, stop derailing it. It's barely even a spoonfeeding thread.
i don't think her voice is all that deep
you might enjoy BILLIE IDLE's Momose Momo though
clyp.it
tenchan is not a band dummy!!
Already mentioned but Boris
Melt-Banana
Can we talk about how good Melt-Banana is?
I just found an easy example to give you an idea of what I was looking for. thanks for the suggestion. I'll look more into it. I have another webm (first girl singing) as example my.mixtape.moe
My favorite japanese band is Uchoten, not quite post-rock, more like new wave/post-punk, but they experiment quite a bit with their sound.
She's too good to be omitted, regardless of how many people she consists of.
Saw Melt-Banana a few months ago and they are fucking amazing.
speaking of Tentenko and bands, though, New ear CD release when?
Not sure what new ear is but I'm interested in finding out!
Zazen Boys are a personal favorite. Go with the first s/t for blown out jazzy punk and the fourth for cleaner, funkier stuff. 2, 3 are great, and Stories is cool but really busy.
Also, check out Number Girl, Chirinuru Wowaka and Kimonos.
as Billie idle was mentioned before, have you heard their cover of bye-bye?
it was a band she had in May last year with Tanaka Junichiro (from ju sei, the same guy who also produced that alternate arrangement of "Kuruma" on Kogyou-Seihin) and biki, i think they only performed once though
more important, though, where is Florida's Kimiomo music video??
Mass of fermenting dreggs
Ah, didn't see this when I posted.
Didn't she do a thing with Captain Mirai once?
Post-Rock:
World's End Girlfriend - Hurtbreak Wonderland
Matryoshka - Zatracenie
Mutyumu - Ilya
Boris - Flood
Mono & WEG Collab Album
Kashiwa Daisuke - Program Music I
the closest thing i can find is that they both appeared at the Saruhage Rock Festival last year
Melt-Banana live sounds ridiculous. Incredibly jealous.
when i saw them the lead lady told some dumb stage-diving metalhead who was a friend of the opening act to fuck off, which was almost as good as the set itself
Thanks, I didn't know them.
That's really cute, I love how the video is also like the Uchoten PV.
There's a Uchoten cover album released around 10 days ago, it includes bands like Lolita No. 18. I used to have it but lost it long ago.
we're never going to get it, are we
youtube.com
Only person I've ever seen do that is STZA. Really appreciate when acts tell dickheads to fuck off.
10 days ago? I know of "the very best covers of Uchoten", but I could only ever find Floppy's cover.
I'm actually listening to the 2013 Music Hour currently.
It's all lost in the passage of time.
Sorry, I meant to say 10 years ago lol, yeah it's the album with Floppy's cover of Pinokiwo. Lolita No. 18's cover was Key Mania.
GalapagoS (another band by Sharaku from Floppy) also did a Uchoten cover, "Collection":

The 2013 Music Hour CD set is great, bless the user who uploaded it.
Boris for sure
You got some great recs already (Boris and Mass of the Fermenting Dregs are among my favorites), but let me give you some things you won't see mentioned often on Sup Forums

I've listened to Storm and Stress, but I haven't listened to this cover before.
Cosmo-Shiki released a new album only a few weeks ago if you were interested in that.
No worries, I'll try and upload the rest of the Long Vacation CDs for you, I've just been a little lazy lately.
ohh it's you! I guess the Uchoten fandom is very small after all, haha.
Don't worry, take your time, did you get my last mail?
[spoiler]I also messaged you on soulseek, I found you by searching for Uchoten.. sorry if I seem like a stalker lol
i really like the oral cigarettes
Yeah, I got your email, but I've just been a bit busy and I've been having to reply to a few others first instead.
Nah, I don't mind, but I just didn't realise you sent me a message at all, sorry. Anyways, I gotta get busy, so I'll try to keep in touch by email.
Also, I've been seeing a few Uchoten pictures lately, was there some event that I've been out of the loop with?
it's that time of year

They're way more influenced by Devo than The Cure.
But yeah, Kera's hairdos remind of Robert Smith. IIRC, his trademark Uchoten-era hairstyle was supposed to resemble the leafs of a vegetable, like in a turnip. Something to do with Kera's weird vegetable fixation (see: Mississippi video clip, or the song "Vegetable")
No problem, just found it funny to find you there. I'm trying to leave slsk on as much as I can because I'm on my way of downloading some cool stuff, like the Nagomu Pops Collection in FLAC, and a rip of the GAN remaster with the bonus tracks.
My negro
By the way I just checked on their site and yeah, just yesterday there was a festival with them and like 20 other artists, including Ohken (solo?), Ningen Isu, and many other artists I'm not familiar with. These nice girls Billie Idle too.
I hope we get at least some videos uploaded.
Motohiro Nakashima if you want some chill Japanese folk.
Moonriders, and any other Keiichi Suzuki project
youtube.com
Definitely send me that GAN remaster some time. I've been very slowly downloading the Metro Farce "Past Future Animators Stands on Gaia" box set, but I've got the first CD downloaded.
Going through the 2013 Music Hour, I can now definitely tell that Kera is covering Monogramme in one of the songs.
