So I am trying to install Ubuntu on windows 7 in my laptop. I burnt the iso on a dvd but the Ubuntu menu doesn't come up when I restart the laptop. Any tips?

I tried using that in the begining but fucked up by using an outdated method. Trying Rufus now

Try Debian or at least Linux mint. The Bios Setting helps I see

try setting up the live cd again and set the boot order to cd first.

Load your dvd in the drive, reset your computer. Instead of selecting the bios setup select the boot menu. Select the optical drive, press enter and your cd will boot.

There are many good distributions. I just don't like the way that Ubuntu has gone. Support is - thx the community - pretty good (same: Debian (the Base) & Mint), but they had this deal with Amazon (and won some [kind of] big brother award). They have done a good job for Linux publicity, but on a second view, the hard work made others. And the "unity" desktop is wannabe innovative - for desktop uses.
