Limited pressing of population override by buckethead

Mostly I just get stuff if it's cheap, or never been reissued (which is thousands of records)

Buying new records for twenty+ bucks makes no sense to me

I'm not at home but I have the original cover edition of Slippery When Wet. Also the Lynyrd Skynyrd album with the fire on it.

>are any of you guys into collecting vinyl?
This is an 18+ board, so...

This. The only new records i have are limited or gifts.

I have one of the LUM box sets, Mac Plus is pre ordered. Scum Fuck Flower Boy limited golden press is on its way... I hope.

...so yes?

Same man, unless its something I know wont be repressed for awhile

So why arent you in class jimmy?

It's enough for my humble dorm room, I buy about 2 records a week on average

Yes, got about 400 LP/12'' but i have some really rare stuff there. Plus got about 100+ 7' with lots of funk, rock and soul. Mostly collect old obscure stuff thats rare or obscure. The newest one i have is Madlib - Shades Of Blue, European pressing.

Shit, used obscure 2 times.

My dad is under 18?

how the fuck do you guys afford to keep this hobby up?

not a great picture but here's my collection so far, been collecting since april
loveless, no world for tomorrow, crack the skye, leviathan, portal of I, citadel, the planets and ok computer all currently in the mail arriving hopefully within the next week

Buy used vinyl, most record in vg comdition are like $6 or less. I picked up rumors by fleetwood for like 7 i think

do you buy online or in stores? there aren't really any second hand vinyl stores near where i live

discogs.com/

not that guy but this is where myself and most people I know buy records online
it's such a nice website, I use it to catalog my stuff as well

Thrift store find. Kickstarted my interest in vinyl

really? i can never find stuff i want on there for less thgan $10 before shipping

depends what you're looking for I guess, I got a great copy of brothers in arms for like $8
if you're looking at reissues then they're gonna be like $20+

can i trust the condition on discogs? if it says VG will it actually be very good?

you can trust that vg+ really is vg+ and vg really is vg and so on, but you should look up, what each conditions means. i think you can also do that on the website

yeah I've always had great luck looking on discogs, although I tend to buy new stuff if I can just to be safe unless I absolutely can't buy a new copy or it's outrageous in price

depends on the seller, you can also check on their feedback. also doesn't hurt to message the seller for pictures if you're concerned

discogs is only good if you live in america, i'm a britbong and it's not all that cheap here

I've been collecting for about 2 1/2 years, started with a good pile of stuff from my Dad's old collection, built up just over 300 records so far.

Its a fun hobby, honestly I mostly picked it up because I love going to the record store with friends/family who are also into it, its like a day out. Go to the record store, get one or two cool finds, come back home and listen to them.

all that new-pressed.... must've costed you a fortune
you should look into getting CTTE and Fragile original pressed. They go for way cheaper and sound better. I got my copy of CTTE for 8 bucks.

The marketplace can be filtered by uk user so it's no more expensive.

Pro tip: clean the lens of your phone camera. It's greasy.
Same with you.

>inplying anyone but you actually cares

Would anyone here ever blow 80 bucks on one record if you really wanted it? I'm tempted but wary.

Hey can help me with something. I bought these 2 punk records and they are US pressing and I have UK record player but they don't seem to play at the right speed. They are both to be played at 45rpm but they both just sound slightly too slow. What's the deal?

Do you have manual speed adjustment?

Nah only a button to select between 45 and 33

Depends. I want a copy of Duster's Stratosphere but one only crops up on Discogs every couple of months for like $200. Don't think I ever paid more than like $40 for record and those were 2XLPs

buckethead comes out with a new LP every week
not that interesting

As long as you know those terms are euphemisms. I wouldn't recommend grabbing a disc that is under EX-, VG covers are personal preference I guess, just ask for photos.

Just got the vinyl pressing of Unknown Rains.

If it's worth it to you. I have spent weird amounts on certain records and it all boils down to whether you want it that bad, how likely you are to see it again, whether it's pure gouging (you could maybe message the guy if the there's no offer option, sometimes it works to lower the price), etc. In the last couple years I've bought a NMH boxset for 125, Bibio - Fi for 55 (before the repress), an old record of Timothy Leary talking about LSD for 40, two Hot Fuss bootlegs for 65. You don't even wanna know how much I spent on Exmilitary when I first started collecting. But I've also sold a good number for 100 bucks or more, so it all depends. Usually my instinct tells me to just do it.

this is bait ... nearly got me user

rate my purchases from this year

Except that isn't part of the pike series, which also is just digital done by him at home, population override is closer to thanatopsis as its a trio and 99% improvised.

Question: do you buy cheap, old 50s through 80s records for the quantity and varying quality or do you buy modern, more expensive reissues and recent releases?

I've gotten more into scowering through the bottom bins of my local record shop for things that look neat. I'd rather get 5 or 6 older albums than 1 newer one for the same price

if the album came out before 1990 I'll tend to go for the original pressing, even if its more expensive, although 99% of the time its not

these are my favorites i guess

and this is my most favorite which i forgot to post previously

good post

good cop, user

I do it with some new releases, like (just for example) the new Caretaker that's coming out soon, I will for sure buy that for 20 bucks because I love the music and want the physical thing

what did he mean by this?

Found this somehow at my local place. Seemed like the kind of thing that I would have to get

ranma is better

best sound system for price?

exactly this for me too, both my mother and sister loves it too so it's a nice thing to do every once in a while. although I realised I was spending too much on it so I'm down to a maximum of 1 record/month if it's a new one now

I don't watch anime

I just started collecting vinyl records and those are my purchase from last month.

anyone wants to buy burial's untrue and s/t bundled?

I have a jvc l-a10 but have few records because I have shitty speakers. What speakers should I get?

Most of these are original presses, minus a few

Are these stacked or did your phone rotate the pic

Of course not
A true patrician roates his photos of his collection for everyone's convenience

I started back in march
Coming along quite nicely

>roates
Rotates
my bad

...

ouch, you should not post that here. though I actually like that Twenty one pilots and Of monsters and men. If not bait, I respect you dude

what pressing of Tarkus is that? I've never seen a copy with the text at the bottom

Not bait at all, I just don't really care what the overall thoughts on them are. (Did wish I could get my hands on the S/t ToP instead of Vessel, s/t is vastly superior)

Digging that Chronic town EP. What's different with the Japanese release? How much did that cost?

Wait, are reissues and modern pressings lower quality than originals?

It was pressing in México, where i bought it as well

Pressed*

How do I properly find people interested in buying vinyl, have a lot to sell but having a hard time reaching out to the public.

ELAC Debut or UB5

pressing technology has come a very far way. When an album is remastered, it's typically being overseen by the artist themselves. Take King Crimson's Red for example or even Led Zeppelin's BBC sessions. Both Robert Fripp and Jimmy Page oversaw the remastering process of each release. If Fripp or Page says "yep, that sounds fucking dope", then it's objectively the best release. Let that marinate in your brain for a few minutes.
I bought the Slint Spiderland reissue (because I'm not a fucking idiot) and it sounds SUPREME.

shoot me a message on reddit (yes, it's a fucking sewer, but I have no problem making money there) Skinny-fisted

>France Demo tapes
very nice, I have the same. I also have Electric Pure land and a bootleg of 77 live. and Yaneura 1979 on cassette. Les Rallizes is really great to have physical copies of imo

discogs.com/user/Ferrochrome/collection

spent 250 on a spiritualized record because the new ones are shit. def. worth it

I paid 80 bucks for Fragile Deviations, so yea, fuck it.

>rare vinyl in the digital age. Give it a few years, everything will be repressed.

>Avec Laundenum
Nice nice

The USA was $3, the Buckley was 75 cents

mother of fuck I've loved this album since I was a teen, I'm pretty jealous man

Thanks mate, it's one of my favorites too, definitely a different side of buckethead.

Down for trading or buying whatever.

kids don't have the disposable income for records and would rather spend their limited money it on video games or some shit

nice taste senpai. I didn't know they did a vinyl run of My Head Is An Animal
put your stuff up for sale on Discogs my good man

Nigga I'd blow a couple thousand for a Good+ original pressing of Dark Side of the Moon if I had the money.

show full cover of led zeppelin pls

Most, but not all. Just like what the other user said, vinyl reissues supervised by the artists are pretty much guaranteed to be excellent, if not better than the original, and so are recordings mastered by competent engineers and such, instead of run-of-the-mill in-house cutters. Just a matter of researching.
