Which major of engineering is the best?

which major of engineering is the best?

Chemical.

electrical probably

Prob this, but also hardest I'd wager.
t. Mechanical engineering freshman

is it really the hardest like people say

Software.

Because in 15 years you'll be automated anyway. Follow the money.

Marked flooded with Electrical
Not a huge demand in Chemical unless you have a PhD.
Civil is generally spotty contract work.
Everything needs a Mechanical Engineer.

/BSME
//Done work for NASA, GE, P&W, designed the most popular oil fueled home boiler in the US, consulted on the design of one of the most accurate long range rifles in the world, done design work on Civil projects, now owner of an Aerospace parts manufacturer.
Write your own ticket as a ME.
/And take the fuckin' tests and get your Professional Engineer's License. That seal is worth big bucks.

Petroleum engineer is patrician.

I guess true patricians don't need steady work. How's that boom/bust cycle going for you?

>And take the fuckin' tests and get your Professional Engineer's License.

Been a contractor for years and quit because I was tired of traveling. Thank Christ I passed the FE in college cause I feel like being an EIT alone is going to help me a lot finding a decent job. Apprenticing for 4 years and having to take an even harder test is pretty daunting to me though.

>Apprenticing for 4 years and having to take an even harder test is pretty daunting to me though.

I remember walking out of the test worried that I fucked up.
Why?
Some people were crying. Some looked like they were leaving a funeral. Others were just leaving as quickly as they could.
And I had been thinking......."Damn these tests are fuckin' easy". I was worried that I was just missing things and thought it was easy.

Long 2 months waiting for the results. Passed!
You never know how well you did. Just passed/failed.

Toughest part was the long day.
Test (part 1) started at 8 am ran through noon. 1 hr for lunch. Test (part 2) ran 2pm to 5 pm.
But it was open book, bring anything you want.

Definitely worth it.
Like I said, that seal is worth big bucks.
And a good bit of prestige.

what should I minor in?

Is Civil really spotty? Is there high demand? Give an example of a job...

Mech. Eng. undergrad thinking about switching to civil/electrical/chem maybe.

u'll all get lumped into the same pot
shits interchangeable really.
if you're smart enough to solve mechanical, you can probs do electrical, etc.
just pick what interests you. won't really matter in the long run,.

Civil is dying mech is better

Civil is the easiest and pays the least
Electrical is hard
Mechanical is slightly easier than electrical
Aero space, is mechanical with aerodynamics classes
Petroleum pays most, but good luck learning about rocks

Applied physics > electrical > chemical
