I use that one

new layout is shit.. reverted to previous version.
>Feels amazing

still using 55

AT WHAT FUCKING COST

vivaldifag reporting in

Feels slower too, I bet.

Well NoScript was released today, for 57.

But me personally, I only need uBlock Origin.

I keep that shit simple. With some config edits for more speed and privacy.

well I'm a faggot
I use opera, should I switch?

>not using palemoon

Try it, it could be better for you.

which one is better the 32bit or 64bit?

Nice b8 m8

I've noticed that preview hover images on Sup Forums are significantly slower to load with the new version. The image save/copy/print hover option also appears to be gone. Pretty disappointing so far.

yeah well a lot of other browsers can do that. DTA was the only thing that could download all open tabs, as far as I'm aware, and they butchered the system to the point where the dev couldn't have ported it even if he wanted to.

New setup is better as it will keep the addon devs from creating horrendous memory leaks and shit. It's just a matter of waiting for the popular addons to be ported.

I'm not even a Firefox fanboy (actually posting from Chrome). Mozilla should've ripped the bandaid off and done this years ago instead of having Nethercote and other skilled devs run around trying to babyproof Firefox from devs for years.

Downtown Abbey could not download all open tabs, so stfu about shit you know nothing of.

that's not the story I heard, but either way there's functionality killed off that I have no replacement for unless I want to downgrade now and stay on old version indefinitely

what?

I'm not using that shit until NoScript gets updated.

What story did you hear?

Yeah, reverted to 50.0.

>The new APIs would only allow for a severely limited in functionality

>Gone with DownThemAll! will be add-ons that e.g. let you change major bits about the Firefox user interface (e.g. tabs tree add-ons), add-ons that allow you to do more “advanced” stuff than just showing or slightly altering websites

downthemall.net/the-likely-end-of-downthemall/

Is it better than Google Ultron though?

It was updated yesterday: addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/noscript/

>layout

Uhh... you know you can customize the layout right? You can put buttons, text boxes and tool bars where ever the fuck you want.

lol

This version seems more customizable to me. Also there is the option to do even more with userchrome.css

I think auto correct went full retard on his post..

just my guess.

We're basically saying the same thing but from entirely different perspectives.

It all comes down to the way the old API worked. Essentially Mozilla gave the developers a lot of flexibility and believed that mostly good code was being written by addon developers.

Back 6/7+ years ago Firefox devs were adamantly opposed to the idea that Firefox had memory leaks and believed that addon problems existed but were rare. Then at some point some Firefox dev wrote some memory profiling tools and discovered that memory leaks were rampant. In Firefox as well as addons, and while some leaks were rare and insanely bad there were lots of not as bad leaks all around.

This caused Mozilla to finally get its shit together and start the memshrink project (and a few others with similar goals that I only vaguely remember). The memshrink project has mostly reached its goals (and per my understanding it's done, but I haven't sat around Mozilla's irc channels for a few years so yea). Here's a blog post (this blog would post weekly updates on the project back in the day).
blog.mozilla.org/nnethercote/2017/05/30/memshrink-status/

Anyway, one of the big findings back then was that addon developers weren't freeing resources correctly and there were way too many addons for Firefox devs themselves to debug. One of the earlier things they tried was notifying developers of the most popular addons about bugs but in many cases the developers came back saying they didn't have time or didn't really know what they were doing. So over the last 6 years they did a bunch of shit to try and babysit developer addons and free up resources and shit. A recurring theme each week was that while they were constantly resolving huge memory leaks at the end of the day their solutions were just bandages and hacks the real problem was the addon api itself (also, a fuckload of memory leaks within Firefox got fixed as part of the project too).

tl;dr: They should've done this from the start.

Me again, here's a more relevant post from 2012. It talks about addon leaks (specifically zombie compartments) and details one of their hacky fixes.
blog.mozilla.org/nnethercote/2012/07/19/firefox-15-plugs-the-add-on-leaks/
>I said this because many add-ons have memory leaks.

>We have found leaks in popular, well-written add-ons, such as Adblock Plus, Video DownloadHelper, GreaseMonkey and Firebug. (They are the top four add-ons on addons.mozilla.org!)
>We have found leaks in simple, innocuous add-ons, such as It’s All Text and Image Zoom.
>We have found leaks in add-ons written by large software companies, such as McAfee SiteAdvisor and Yahoo! Toolbar.

>Happily, most of the leaks in the mentioned add-ons have been fixed by their developers. But by now it should be clear that (a) memory leaks are common, and (b) no add-ons are immune, no matter how simple they are, or how good their developers are.

...

>Once these tools were in place, the reports of leaky add-ons started rolling in, and it only took a few months to realize the magnitude of the problems they were causing. We started tracking them, we helped authors fix them, and tightened the AMO review guidelines so that any add-on that was found to cause zombie compartments would have its status downgraded.

>As a result, dozens of leaky add-ons were fixed. But there are literally thousands of Firefox add-ons in existence, many of which aren’t hosted on AMO and so aren’t subject to the AMO review policies. And although many add-on authors were responsive, some weren’t. It was a tedious game of whack-a-mole, and something better was needed.

I'd say it's a fair risk since it was the only browser with such a robust platform. Now, there are none.

I'd hardly call paying your most talented developers to re-enact the myth of Sisyphus for half a decade a "fair risk".

There are certainly tradeoffs but Firefox will be better overall.

yeah, firefox might be better by some accounts. It might be better for most, even, but now it really is just a chrome clone that cucks me a little less. Firefox never needed to be the fastest browser, because it had this unique extension platform. Users of these applications understand there is a risk of poor performance and problems such as memory leaks. These are risks in any open software platform.

Just because you can make a metaphor that sounds smart doesn't mean you're right. You say they were working in vain. I say they were working on an indispensable and unique software platform. Now, they are just working on Diet Chrome.

In an attempt to unfuck the new design I accidentally removed the one-click bookmark star from inside the url bar. How can I get it back?

It's clearly rushed, no rightclick menu and it's barebones as hell. Seems like they get thrown under the bus with quantum, they did well to bring it out so fast.

Imagine the quality of person who falls for this and goes to use it simply to appease someone on an anonymous image board.

you don't need it
Ctrl+D my man

kys commie shill! firefox is for socialists!

yes. it will them from creating memory leaks by not developing anymore at all.
Thanks firefox!

Good point, but my hand is usually not on the keyboard while browsing.

this.

Ctrl+D
"I'm a huge faggot"
Enter
:)

customize option on the main menu

Use speech, eyes and brain waves to control it

they're just icons so customize > restore defaults
will take two mins to set them up again how you like

i was forced to. it doesn't like 60 tabs. it dies fucking hard but with just a few, i guess it's ok. it's a stupid pain to find good download helpers but i reset it and reinstalled the newest of one and it worked.

i don't like it and i've been using browsers ever since internet explorer 3.0 and most of my calls as a windows 98/ME support rep for real microsoft were about internet explorer 4.0 and how it would break windows. it was a 40 minute fix we did 5+ times a day, guaranteed.

does yours have a download all tabs feature? if so, which is it?

doesn't work
still no star inside the urlbar

>open menu > customize > grab star and put it back.

There is no star I can put INSIDE the urlbar, just a dropdown menu to put next to it as in , which isn't single-click

noticed that after i posted. damn. it should at least be in about:config, right?

yeah I looked, couldn't find it

>click on ... > right click bookmark star> Add to Address Bar

there you go:)

theres several tree tabs up and working already, I have and use the one called "tree tabs" that has a vivaldi/chrome/opera port, its best imo
Just as of now you cant hide the top normal tabs

Thanks!

That's nice, but I actually don't use tab trees. I just want to be able to download all tabs in a window.

no problemo

Customize -> find the right fucking bookmark item (you got the wrong item) -> right click and add to address bar

...

Its fast as fuck.

It broke all the addons. Unfortunately until certain features come back i cant use it.

FF sure is fast now.
But all my addons ded.
Not sure how to feel.

It only broke tinfoil addons like noscript which is a good thing.

robbed

same but ill probably switch to firefox when they get their addon shit together.

This is what people can do when they remove the hateful elements from their organization.

In more ways than one. I've had to spend the weekend writing an RSS reader application to salvage feed history from Newsfox, which stopped working. Spent 12+ hours on that.

AND I'VE ALREADY GONE BACK TO SAVING PORN ONE IMAGE AT A TIME. REEEEEEEE

I knew this was coming and I dreaded this day.

Yeah. It's great the Firefox is fast once again, now that I have to actually interact with the websites, when all my helpful addons which browsed the web for me are kill.

Collecting has gone from being a laid back time back to the dark ages whence downloading requires starcraft-level APMs

Firefox ESR you asshats gtfo

Since it updated automatically it's running like shit. Way too slow.I'm thinking of changing the browser.

They should have made it more clear that updating fucks everything up and downgrading is a PITA. But then nobody would fall for it.
This is what happened with GNOME too: they wanted to force their vision down people's throats so people just forked them or made their own competitor like ubuntu's unity.

Ded addons:

> DownThemAll!
Filter and submit for download all links or files on tab, or in all tabs. This one was fucking godsend for ripping entire sites worth of data in few seconds.
Now you have to actually click things! A shameful display!

> Linky
Turns text (inactive) links to active links.
Also, allows you to open all links on Page in tabs at once.
Fuck, now I have to right-click it and actually select open.
Those extra seconds add up, and have detrimental psychological effect

> Pocket
The good old extension which didn't suck. Now we got fucking bloated web UI.
Fuck you Pocket team!

> Remove tabs
Kill tabs to the left, to the right, all except the active one, or all of them!
The best for closing all the tens of panels with now suddenly disgusting porn, after you came.

> Restartless restart
ctrl+alt+r
The memory leaking Firefox is restarted with all tabs intact. Fucking life saver.

> Tabmix plus
Jesus, I don't even know where to start. This thing was godsend.

> NewsFox
But this one is the one because of which I actually considered ESR. This was my central point of all the information.
It is a simple RSS reader. Native to browser. No shitty web UI here.
You will be missed, my dear friend.

>Those extra seconds add up, and have detrimental psychological effect
Yeah. Chances are you will just not do those things out of laziness.

>Those extra seconds add up, and have detrimental psychological effect
Exactly! Now I have to decide between knowing what lies in the mystical realm behind those text links, and not spending any effort on clicking them.

Sophie's choice.

it nuked all my extensions and i don't know how to get legacy'd ext to work.

> 2017
> not using ESR version of firefox
this is the only firefox version worth installing. it's the only version that isn't a broken fucking mess like their official version or this quantum piece of shit.

you millennial faggots are beyond stupid at times.

ESR is the only think you should be using for regular browsing

This too shall pass.

Once the support ends, you will be left using unsupported browser. Sure, things will be fine for a while, but over time, the web browsing experience will start to deteriorate because of the missing features of upcoming web standards.

You will be left. Alone. In dying community. Bitter about the world, which has forgotten you.

But hey, at least you get to keep your extensions!

has nothing to do with extensions or anything, you stupid faggot. it's about stability.

> be you
> being this fucking retarded and not knowing how firefox's esr works

>post hoc ergo propter hoc
non sequitur
>ad hominem
inb4 tu quoque

99% Normie's, have fun idiots . google whonix before you're raped by everything

>whonix
it's just a virtual machine running a 'modified' version of firefox ESR. boring.

uses more memory, but less CPU. I like this fucker.

but at what cost? that already existed as chrome

You had to start it, didn't you.

>antifa browser
no thanks

I found recent versions of Firefox ate up CPU like a beast, the only cost has been the loss of some add ons, and limited themes. but the new version of roboform works, and looks a lot better. And unlike Chrome, it's not part of Googles botnet.

firefox 56 still exists, you didn't really lose anything.
56 isn't getting updates, but that's cause it's hard to maintain.
You can always maintain it yourself if you want.

you had the option to use chromium or opera or iceweasel or whatever. we are losing stuff like and our only option is and esr but even that isn't a great solution and won't last anyway

Pretty sure its updated as whonix is?

Another option is to port addons.
You can use a webextension experiment,
which lets you create an API to add functionality to webextensions.
If you do it right, it'll be incorporated into firefox.

I'm not holding my breath

>still using firefox
maxkek. why dont you retro faggots just load up konqueror or netscape?

Get on it!

Your life must be shit to even download it.

>downloading something from a site that looks 20 years old and promises too much

Have fun with your bitcoin miner.

Firefox always has the worst UI and are ran by complete fucking retards.

>Hur dur people want to use yahoo.

>Fucking plebs.

>DownThemAll
downthemall.net/delays/

Have a read.

I actually really like the rebuild. I've found fuck all that doesn't work, the only annoyance I have is I can no longer fuck with scrollbars..
