The only Vic solo i've listened to is the album on my chart, his vocals are a bit weak but the guitar playing is excellent, i think you'll find something to like in it if you like Owen / other kinsella related things

yeah, it's the original version of the album that beefheart scrapped, it also has songs that ended up on doc at the radar station and ice cream for crow. (and some songs that never came out) Pretty interesting to hear the original versions of the songs

it's more emo than animals but still mathy, i've grown to love it recently so i absolutely recommend it
