They hated the fame, the press, were notoriously hard to interview, only have a handful of music videos (mostly off Ten), and went out of their way to make it as hard as possible for themselves (see Ticketmaster boycott and subsequent grassroots tour)
You can hate Pearl Jam, that's fine. But they're not a pop group in sound or substance. And of all the Seattle bands they probably detested the term "grunge" the most
