if you like well produced pop music you'll probably like kpop
if you like cute girls and boys you'll probably like kpop
if you like really impressive choreography in music performances you'll probably like kpop
There's decent mainstream K-Pop out there mostly made by SM's flagship artists (Exo, SHINee, Red Velvet) and by Big Bang, the Chang Thunderwangs of K-Pop. But most K-Pop is watered down version of whatever shit is popular on US radio because they steal our producers (aka the Scandis who muck the radio up.)
There's not a lot of substance to be found because it's so manufactured for wide appeal to saesangs and uncle fans (aka K-Pop general who doesn't give a shit about the music, just the waifus.)
This
>if you like cute girls and boys you'll probably like kpop
This pretty much sums it up. Not much musically but makes it up visually.
I've always wondered it this too, OP. I just assumed that most people here were fapping since I doubt they can understand what's being sung and it's not like the music is exactly top-tier.
>mostly made by SM
yikes, no
Name a label that has had more quality hits
[whispers] JYP
That's just not true though, although I fuck with a lot of JYP artists
rip Miss A
I just recently got a bit into KPop
Albums are almost universally shit and full of filler
There are some singles that are legitimately great though, but it's still just Pop and if you don't like anything about western pop music you won't dig KPop either.
I guess just listen to one of the KPop playlists on Spotify (there's a couple official ones) or something and jack off to the videos like everyone else does
It's good for your penis
Are people who are generally into KPOP know the language or at least try to?
No, the lyrics are absolute garbage going off the translation, so no one's missing out if the don't know Korean. If anything they're sparing themselves.
Just look at the Engrish like "never don't mind about a thing" that pops up. It's all style over substance—candy music.
it's as good as pop music
one of the positive things about it is that you can't understand
a lot of people learn how to read hangul tho, it can be done in less than a day
Twice is superior K-pop
youtube.com
It's a meme. Holy shit. Can't believe anyone actually listens to that shit
chill
...
there's plenty good kpop out there
stellar, exid, after school, orange caramel, fx and so on and forth
in the end it's just pop music tho
yes im into kpop for the music not the cute boys
but the music IS top tier

Nothing wrong with pop music. Everything you listen to is derived from it. Is Radiohead and AnCo actually good or is it just a meme?
I would say Radiohead doesn't quite fall under pop music just like Hyukoh isn't kpop even though their songs always top the charts, is Kendrick a pop artist?
I would say Kid A is not pop music
Kendrick is

good groups always die
Are there any K-pop musicians that you would find worth listening to without the fluff, the videos and shit?
What is the difference between J-Pop and K-Pop besides the nationalities?
kpop singers don't sound like 8 year olds
What's some good older K-pop?
just listen to fx
Humble was #1 on the Billboard chart so I suppose it depends on if you think of pop as a specific thing or simply whatever's popular. Pop music adopted rock's verse-chorus structure so the differences were superficial before Radiohead even formed, and that's where they diverged from.
jpop idol groups suck too much, the music is unlistenable(ex: AKB48). jpop has a lot more non idol stuff tho and it sounds pretty good, like Frederic, Mondo Grosso, Gen Hoshino, etc.
Japan has it's own underground idol scene where the music does not suck, but technically it's NOT jpop because it's underground music.
kpop is way more influenced by the west, Koreans try to make it international but the japs are doing their own thing
Japanese pop music has more subcultures and a wider variety in sound, Korean pop music is very homogenised but the budget is much higher

Korean music has subcultures and a wide variety of sound, you've probably just not bothered delving into their scene. Its difficult, because of the language barrier (they use their own popular websites and its fucking hard searching shit in hangeul sometimes)
But please don't generalise. Weabs on this website always compared Japan and Korea, but they only ever care enough to delve into Japanese media, not Korean but then they make assumptions about Korean
i'm talking specifically about the pop music scene - i'm aware of a number of the other things happening in Korea, but because i'm answering a question about "K-pop" and "J-pop" i'm discussing what is meant by those specific terms
Why was he so violent with his shirt!
This is what fagshitters actually think.
Okay so those groups that you posted, that are barely managing 500k views between all of them, are considered mainstream "J-pop" in the same league as Nogi or AKB and should be used as evidence that J-pop is more diverse than K-pop? I chuckled a bit.
But okay, here are four links of K-pop groups that have a distinctive sound from one another.

I'm Korean and I can safely say kpop is not good at all. So please keep away from it. Never give it a chance.
gooks know nothing
>should be used as evidence that J-pop is more diverse than K-pop?
yes
please show me one K-pop group that collaborates with harsh noise bands, incorporates polyrhythm or complex time signatures, or can make something longer than 8 minutes sound constantly engaging
the most far-out thing you've managed here is that edgy pop-rock number
The only decent genre to come out of Asia is noise
You clearly haven't heard about our revolutionary guys
youtu.be
forgot this youtu.be
Yes we know Japanese music is superior
The thread is wether Kpop has any merit
Meant to reply to this
why am i being made to listen to this four-chord tropical house
i was answering the question in until someone took offense
Cringe do asians have any originality
listen and see

sg wannabe
It's a bit of both, I used to be really into it as a teen but I got burnout having to go through so much shit to find the gold especially with new group debuting every week or whatever
says the fucking mongrel cuck where are you from?
is Korean even easy to learn? Looks hard.
brazil
the language is hard but the alphabet is easy, it was literally made to be easy
>Before the creation of hangul, people in Korea (known as Joseon at the time) primarily wrote using Classical Chinese alongside native phonetic writing systems that predate hangul by hundreds of years, including idu, hyangchal, gugyeol, and gakpil. However, due to the fundamental differences between the Korean and Chinese languages, and the large number of characters needed to be learned, there was much difficulty in learning how to write using Chinese characters for the lower classes, who often didn't have the privilege of education. To assuage this problem, King Sejong created the unique alphabet known as hangul to promote literacy among the common people.

huh you learn something new everyday. Thanks user that was appreciated. it's language I want to learn one day for my career
People act like it is so much different from western pop, but it isn't, If you enjoy pop, yeah, it can be pretty good, but you gotta find what sort of pop music you like, electro? dance? with a touch of RnB? Ballads? A bit of Jazz? Folk?
yeah even worse, everyone knows the best songs are the b-sides which get no MV's
>all girl groups
you're missing out man
