In the history of the NBA, only four players have had a better PER than the PER that Russell Westbrook had this season

In the history of the NBA, only four players have had a better PER than the PER that Russell Westbrook had this season.

Thus, it is an objective fact that Westbrook is the MVP.

Yet, you dense motherfuckers seem to think Harden is MVP. Explain yourselves.

PER is a meme stat but Westbrook has had an amazing season.

How is PER a meme? What better objective stat for MVP is there?

There is no objective stat. If there was there would be no argument

Since people mostly care about storylines rather than basketball, Westbrook will win it.

Wins.

>Team stat
>Individual award

I'm really torn between Harden and Westbrook. On one hand WB broke a 50+ year old record and averaged a TD for the entire fucking season. But Harden also had 22 for the season but also led his team to a 3rd seed position.
But mvp is about how VALUABLE that player is to their team. without WB the Thunder wouldn't have made the playoffs. The Rockets would've made 8th seed without Harden and would've had a first round exit.

More usage rate= higher PER it is that simple.Westbrick has a high PER because he has the highest usage rate in history. If he doesn't have the highest PER in history is because he is shit

Pre-season everyone thought that the OKC were a better team than the Rockets. The media has changed the narrative to justify giving the award to Westbrick.

who do you think deserves it?

LeBron. But he doesn't have the story to back it up

>LeRest

He's copping out just like he did in '08 and '09 before he went to miami. Best player in the league but he doesn't like working for the Ship. He wants to coast all the way but once he's made up his mind no one can convince him. He didn't even play the final game hoping for the first seed.

Without him Cleveland have a horrible record. He is the definition of an MVP

True but the same thing can be said about Westbrook

The question we have to answer is is it more impressive to take a shit team and make them decent? Or a good team and make them great? I'd argue for the former, so I think Westbrook should get the MVP. The problem is this award usually just goes to the best player on the best team which I think is an absolute shit way to go about it.

Westbrook's team is the sixth seed and he has the highest usage rate in history so its impossible to tell how well his team would fare without him.The Cavs are the second seed in the east and when Lebron doesn't play they just lose by 30

Well, there you have it guys: Zaza Pachulia is an MVP-level player.

Gee it's almost as if predictions can be off and the course of a season can demonstrate the actual objective quality of a team. No fucking way

The team is only terrible because they're not properly developing. Everything is centered on making Westbrook do everything.

Would be nice to see the team actually develop instead of just letting Westbrook have the most ball possession and making him look better than the rest of his team.

The Spaniard is right.

Harden and Westbrook both play ugly ass ball. If curry was playing the whole year like he has for the past 15 games he woulda won it easily

Not even remotely true. Preseason everyone thought the Thunder with Russel Westbrook was better than Harden with the Rockets, they didn't realize the Harden was going to be a basketball god and they didn't realize the Rockets were gonna have as many shooters as they do...also, I recall most people thinking they would both be fighting for the 8th seed, not that OKC was better. Not to mention the obvious oversight that everyone like you seems to have....the Rockets were built for Harden in mind for the last 4 years, the Westbrook is playing with a team meant for Durant. Not to mention the league is continuing to trend to 3 pointers...i don't even need to explain that part do I?

You're retarded, Lebron has TWO all-stars on his team
and no, not even lebron could make Steven Adams, Victor Oladipo, or Andre Roberson all star caliber

A. PER is a dumb metric, it rewards players for taking shots
B. LeBron James and Steph Curry are both clearly better players
C. No one with any sense thinks Harden is the MVP

PER doesn't reward you for taking shots when you have a low shooting percentage. PER only rewards you for taking shots if you have a shooting percentage above average, which is good for your team.

When LeBron doesn't play the Cavs have a horrible record.
>Westbrook is playing with a team meant for Durant
Not true.Even when Durant was at OKC the managers listened to Westbrook.Westbrook needs to play with big guys as he just knows how to penetrate. His mid range game is awful and his 3 point game is terrible. He can just penetrate and hope to get a lay up,a fault or a dunk.If you put him in the Rockets or Warriors he would do far worse

Westbrook's FG% is crap. His PER is high just due his high usage rate(the highest in history)

>The 2 MVP candidates are both shooting 10 free thows per game

Westbrook's free throws and other stat lines make up for his low fg percent, giving a high PER.

He shoots so many FT due his absurd usage rate.High usage rate=high PER.That is why the most inneficient player in the league has a high PER

Even if your usage rate is the highest, that doesn't mean your PER is going to be high because if your production is only average compared to the rest of the league, then your your PER will only be average. In order to have a high PER, your ratio of production per usage must still be above average. Westbrook has the highest usage rate in NBA history because his ratio of production per usage is among the highest in NBA history. It is in the interest of the team for the ball to be in Westbrook's hands. Everyone knows that the key to beating the thunder is to double team Westbrook, and they still cant stop him, and he still has a high PER.

>high PER = high player EFFICIENCY rating
>"most inneficient player"

>westbrook only looks good because his usage rate is high
>westbrook only looks good because his team needs him for everything and he just happens to be capable of doing everything

High usage rate=More assits and more points. The second player with the highest PER is Harden. He has the second highest usage rate in the league. Also statpadding uncontested rebounds helps inflaiting that meme stat
>high player EFFICIENCY
So the popular democratic republic of Korea is a popular democracy as well.PER is a meme stat that means jack shit as statpadding uncontested rebounds counts as much as grabing offensive rebounds for example

TPA: total points added, which is supposed to include defense (it's actually a sum of points added on offense combined with points given up on defense)

Westbrook leads in this stat as well btw.

reminder that if hardencucks actually followed their logic, they would be supporting lowry (62.3% TS, good TO/AST ratio) over harden (61.3% WHILE BREAKING THE SEASON RECORD TURNOVERS) for mvp

>with points given up on defense
Westbrick has the highest number of uncontested shots in the league (to statpad the rebound).

u wot m8?

To increase PER, you only need to make shots at about a 33%. If you chuck up shots with a 33% success rate, which is below average, you will increase your PER.

If Harden is better than westbrook, then why don't the rockets use harden more than westbrook? ...because Harden's efficiency lowers more when harden's usage rate goes up because Harden can't handle the increase in double teams as well as a westbrook and thus harden's shot percentage goes down to point where harden is no longer an efficient play.

False, PER is normalized to the league average. If you shoot 33%, below league average, then your PER will be below league average too, assuming all your other stats are average too.

>then why don't the rockets use harden more than westbrook?
Because the Rockets strategy is not based around "make Harden happy and let him statpad" that is why they are the third seed and not the sixth.

What does harden taste like?

2015-2016
>the "unanimous mvp" just chuckin 3s n not drivin da paint
>dis nigga a BITCH, too afraid to play aggressive physical basketball, n draw fouls n get and ones
2017:
>the so-called "mvps" always at da free throw line! they can't even shoot, they stats been reffed up

Make up your fucking mind Sup Forums

a door stopper?

Why do people like Harden? All he does is drive into the lane, flail his arms around, and then make free throws.
