>"That is a very awful excuse. We do not blame the Americans, but they should not say that thanks to the bomb so many people could survive."
Probably the most terrifying thing the American public has ever been brainwashed into believing (we're talking cosmic horror levels of terrifying) is that the atomic bombings, which killed hundreds of thousands of civilians, many slowly and painfully due to radiation poisoning, "probably saved lives and is something Japs should thank us for."
This is literally ISIS logic, the idea that you can sacrifice hundreds of thousands of women and children who had no say in the matter for a presumed "greater good."
Americans really are the worst people who ever lived.
>Probably the most terrifying thing the American public has ever been brainwashed into believing (we're talking cosmic horror levels of terrifying) is that the atomic bombings, which killed hundreds of thousands of civilians, many slowly and painfully due to radiation poisoning, "probably saved lives and is something Japs should thank us for."
do you have any idea how many American GIs would have been killed if we would have invaded? upwards of 1 million. we were expecting so many casualties that we made so many Purple Hearts we havent made any since 1945.

It would have cost millions of American lives to invade Japan. And they would have fought us bitterly, and many Japanese civilians would have died. Stalin would have thus had an excuse to invade northern Japan, and we wouldn't have invaded Korea. Imagine that- a unified Korea under the Kims, and a North and South Japan. I don't want that world.

It actually is since Japan had no will to fight anymore and was already cut off its supply lines.
A display of force by dropping the bomb on uninhabited ground would have had the same results but the Americans wanted to test the bomb on live subjects, american scientists were at Hiroshima before even Japanese emergency response.
Hiroshima and Nagasaki were war crimes and I swear to god if Marine becomes president I'll personally petition her for the international prosecution of England and America for the crimes committed against the French and Japanese people.

This, the fire bombings of Tokyo were much worse than the bombs, but people seem to only care about the bombs. I don't know why, it may be fear.
Joseph Reyes
If you knew any thing about the subject you would realize the fire bombings did a lot more damage and causalities. Also it WAS thanks to the bomb that Japanese survived, the emperor at the time wanted power so bad that he was willing to sacrifice most of his people for it.
I will say one thing, thanks to Japans honor type system it allowed them to climb out the trenches instead of becoming a 3rd world hell hole that blames white people for their problems.

one bomb vaporized 140 000 people and a whole city for no reason other than pure sadism
it was unnecessary
it was done as a show of force towards the USSR
120 000 civilians died
Doing worse somehow does not excuse it, it only shows that Americans are sadist pieces of shit that should be exterminated
Aiden Adams
Nuclear weapons represented the advent of new completely unexplored warfare with lasting effects on the environment. For the first time in existance man had a means of completely destroying the planet.
Josiah Campbell
M8 theres a huge section of uninhabited towns because of nuclear activity in your nation. Stop with retarded ideals.
Tyler Lewis
Its funny how the person who does the bombing knows more about the circumstances of the victim than the actual victim themself.
Ryan Wilson
Cool, can i blame you for atrocities during the french revolution or something similar and exterminate you? I had nothing to do with the war, i was just fortunately/unfortunately born in this country.
Henry Garcia
My grandfather served on a submarine during the war. He disagreed with the bombing and would usually chastise anyone in the family who made racist remarks about the Japanese.
The bombings did save the lives of many U.S. servicemen, and also stopped the Japanese surprise biological attack against the west coast (weaponized bubonic plague. The U.S. should never apologize for the actions that have created the world today. Japan rose up over their adversity and never stumped to playing victim.
The suicide theory is based on the events of mass suicides in Okinawa after U.S. Invasion.

"I'd rather we continue killing ten times as many of them with fire instead! That's a much more ethical way to kill civilians."
They were unable to find out if it was the Emperor who wanted war or just the military. Considering that the Emperor is basically a god to them, the nips could use religion to get this war going. The Emperor may have just been hiding in his cuckshed the entire time, or maybe he started war, because even a hermit would notice that all of Tokyo is burned down.
Aiden Sanchez
>probably saved lives and is something Japs should thank us for." It did. Japan was due for a famine in the fall of '45.
"During the last months of the war, Ishii was preparing for a long-distance attack on the United States. This operation, codenamed "Cherry Blossoms at Night", called for the use of airplanes to spread plague over Southern California at night. The plan was finalized on March 26, 1945. Five of the new I-400-class long-range submarines were to be sent across the Pacific Ocean, each carrying three Aichi M6A Seiran aircraft loaded with plague-infected fleas. The submarines were to surface near San Diego and launch the aircraft towards the target, either to drop the plague via balloon bombs, or to crash in enemy territory. Either way, the plague would then infect people in the area and kill perhaps tens of thousands. The mission was extremely risky for the pilots and submariners, likely a one-way kamikaze mission."

Hiroshima is debatable, but understandable, I probably would have done the same if the decision were in my hands.
Nagasaki was unnecessary imo, the Japanese government should have been given a week to respond at least. Much of the cabinet was already in favour of surrendering, and part of the reason army officials didn't immediately was that they weren't really aware of the scale of the damage from Hiroshima - some of them flat out refused to believe that it really was an atomic bomb at first. Once the government actually realised the scale of the damage, and it became clear that the 'survivors' were all dying from radiation poisoning, I imagine surrender would have followed. Without being too cynical, Nagasaki was definitely influenced by the Soviet DOW.
I've still always though the Americans could have dropped it on something like strategic military base or a port rather than just hitting the middle of civilian Hiroshima - demonstrate overwhelming superiority and the futility of further Japanese fighting without going straight for the cities. Yes, they only had 2 nukes available to them and it would have taken a few months to procure another, but killing 100,000 people in a single day (well, technically over a longer period of time from radiation exposure) is not very nice regardless.

Getting unconditional surrender was important, Japan needed to be completely taken a part and restructured on every level. It's very easy after the fact to say that it was unnecessary but we could very easily be in an alternate history where the allies had to continue on with a hellish land invasion of Japan which would have caused more casualties on both sides. One coup had already been attempted to try and stop the surrender, should America stopped and waited untill a successful coup took place?
Jordan Jones
Actually the issues in Indochina were kicked off by the CIA funding the commies to take control of the opium fields we used to finance our black ops.
>France was getting sucked dry by itself in the 1960's. Gee it's certainly not due to colonial wars fueled by Americano-Russian anti-colonial sprees.

i can think of many worse ways to go than perishing in a nuclear fireball. japan was spared a full invasion of its home islands, and millions, not just hundreds of thousands, would have died were the sheer insanity of it to have gone through, and it would have if it weren't for the manhattan project.
this is irrespective to the further outright lunacy of the cold war's technology, which by in large has never seen true usage.
