Hey, I've been playing with my first real piece of hardware - I bought a JP-08 a while ago. Just been teaching myself how everything works really. I've been producing for maybe 9 months or so in total. I have it plugged into my computer through a cheap focusrite scarlett interface. I can never seem to capture the same sound that I hear straight out of the synth's little speaker. Is it due to the quality of the line? Is it just something about digital that removes that nice warmth? I really want that warmth, I love that feeling. Maybe I need to record it like an analogue instrument into a mic?
Colton Evans
Wow look how fast it's saging. What a joke
Jordan Fisher
This "warmth" is just saturation, coming from the little speaker on your synth. If you want to replicate this sound it's easy to do with any array of plugins.
Elijah Peterson
Ah ok, I never related those two, but that does make sense. Thank you user, I have nowhere to go for conversational music mentorship so this place is all I have. lol
You could fix some of this track's issues by going file > delete
Robert Martinez
Is music theory still relevant and useful for me if I just want to make trap music for a friend? Can I just wing this shit?
Jackson Flores
jhi i produced for 5 yrs :D what do you guys think of my latest jam?=) check it ouuuttaaa! xD clyp.it/jvdikuu5
Joshua Davis
I feel like this is bait for trap-slander but yes. Yeh it is really easy as fuck. You can be stupid as SHIT
Jonathan Gray
spoken word lofi jam get up and slam everybody getup it's time to space jam

What can you tell me about digital pianos? After extensive research I'm leaning heavily towards Roland f140r, but my main concern is that it's already 2 years old. I wonder if Roland will release a followup next year (f130r existed before f140r).
The plus sides (from what I have gathered) are: >good key mechanism (not as good as Kawai es series, but they have problems with keys getting stuck) >lots of sounds to fiddle with (I do orchestral music and would like to quickly try different sounds without loading up my DAW and VST:s) >good piano engine (altough this is subjective, but I preferred it over Yamaha and Kawai in videos) >nice extra touches for the price, such as synthetic ivory keytops and "continuous detection" pedals >minimalistic look
Have I missed an obvious candidate? It sucks that I have no music stores nearby.
Carson Cooper
I finally managed to make some sick sounding ambient shit, I actually decided to get the fuck away from the computer and go sit in my man chair and just fuck with it for like an hour or so. Finally made a great patch, so I saved it and slapped some reverb on it and fuck man it's got some nice layers straight out of the box. I like it a lot. Probably not impressive for you guys here but it sounds really nice to me, like it could be on a Stars of the Lid album or something.
Then after I slapped some reverb and a little EQ on it I remembered your saturator advice, so I kinda went for that and threw just a little edge on there, then turned the gain down to balance it out. Turned out great man, thanks.
Whachu guys think of this? I went for a kinda late-90s/early 2000s post-hardcore vibe
Aiden Morgan
I have a rough recording of drums how do I make the drums less harsh when mixing the track?
Lucas Ramirez
Hey /prod/
Got a mastering file ready to go of an instrumental rock track. The only problem is the hiss that has come out during the mixing process. I can fix the problem using Isotope RX but you can't bounce out of trial.
Considering paying on Fiver to get it removed. The thing is - a lot of them don't know what they are doing. Whats the chances ill get ripped and get the hiss removal/reduction back and it will be shit / take away from frequencies of them master file.
Heres a wav. bounce of the master incase anyone can offer advice.
Does anyone know where I might be able to find some short(under 200ms) kick samples?
Adam Brown
sup guys,
I feel like I am good at making little 30 second licks like these, but I lose focus when trying to figure out how to compose an entire song. How do I get better at this?
I made these two tonight in a relatively short time, but it would probably take me weeks/months to try to build anything from these.
I haven't been in these threads in ages. Here's a downtempo track stuck in loop mode. At least I have more or less arranged the track. This is an outdated render because I've made it longer and added some stuff, but it's basically the same. clyp.it/1emgnwa2 Read the OP. No one's gonna click your mega link. Don't record at high levels. But I guess you can fix a harsh recording with gateing and filtering. I used to think it was cheating many years ago, but after I started using Omnisphere 2 I don't think so. You still need to chose the right sounds and know how to make them fit in the track. I actually like this quite a lot. Could do with a gritty and crisp synth line that breaks through the reverb. Read the OP. No one's gonna click your SoundCloud links. Sorry man.
Kevin Richardson
clyp.it is inferior now that it has upload limits.
I also clicked both his sound cloud links.
Jace Barnes
Why do you need like 200+ uploads on your clyp? I sat down and deleted a ton of old stuff.
John Gray
You can't even do over 25mb with an account.
Kayden Mitchell
What's the best + fastest way of making music through destructive editing
my dream would be a keysampler like kontakt where you can load a big chain of VST fx, set them and hit print so that's the new sample and you get an undo history where you can revert it back
using a wave editor is slow
Blake Gomez
Bumping You mean over 25 MB uploads? Why would you want to upload something that's over 25 MB? What DAW do you use? I use FL Studio and when I want to do that, I just add a bunch of effects and automation, bounce to WAV, redo the process, bounce to WAV, redo the process etc. Then I'm left with a bunch of different WAV files. I'm sure there are better ways though but this workflow is fast for me.
I'd do it myself, look online for best hiss removal, if you have a section of just hiss you reverse the polarity and put it over your track or something, I wouldn't know, I don't ever end up with hiss because I'm not a tard.
Jack Clark
Oh fuck I watched a maschine tutorial you'd love 'cause the guy used this plug in that was designed to do exactly what you want to; cut out parts
Henry Rogers
Does anyone else feel really drained and out of it after long sessions? It almost makes me want to give up, because I feel like shit after producing
Parker Ramirez
Just stick a shorter envelope on one of the kicks you have or load it into a wave editor and shorten it yourself with a fade out
Oliver Howard
I feel really great because afterward 'cause I've got a bit further or learned somthing. The worst part is procrastination
Gabriel Sanchez
Shorten the kick in a sample editor
Jeremiah Smith
I mean I feel physically sick and scatter brained, maybe it's from listening to looped frequencies for over an hour
Feedback on this mix/composition? idk what to call this, similar to braindance I guess
Jackson Butler
No its fine but usually theres something wrong with a preset and it helps to have learnt enough to have some idea of what can be done if anything to get it right
Kevin Williams
or just highlight a clip by clicking on it, then solo that track
Nicholas Lewis
Is there a way to change a MIDI note's velocity halfway through it? Like, can I alter MIDI velocity so that a note may get louder or softer as it plays?
Aaron Stewart
high attack
Nicholas Diaz
Come on /prod/.
Made some changes clyp.it/y1rybtb1 Would love to receive some thoughts and ideas.
Also, screenshot your current project.
I always feel good because I've managed to t ake whatever's in my head and turn it into something real. Don'tsit down to produce when you're not in the mood. I produce in a well lit room with good ventilation and always with a big glass of water next to me. It's also important to take breaks. And I don't mean browse Sup Forums or get up and walk around the house. Take walks outside.
Kevin Stewart
Yep aftertouch is what you are after. You should be able to draw it in as automation in your daw. Bear in mind though that not all VSTs both implementing it.
Brody Clark
How do I into sound design Fennesz's Black Sea is one of the most beautiful albums I have ever heard but I have no idea how to even approach those kinds of static-y textures he has going, sometimes I just try and sample some vinyl static or something and put it through grain delay + effects but it sounds like total shit
Jayden Russell
Also in general any advice for cool things I can do to manipulate samples without making them sound like shit
Cooper Carter
Granular synthesis, reverb, tape delay, different stretching algorithms. Mind checking out my current project?
Landon Ramirez
so thirsty
Alexander Barnes
If you take a drum and loop a tiny party of it you get those tearing sounds like start of black sea song and tie stretch anything melodic with strings with pauls TS to get the ambience
Colton Sullivan
I just want this thread to not be boring.
Brayden Rivera
SOmething's poisoning you mate, washing machine, living in industrial area, printer ink if you print a lot, take showers and get into new clothes and wash your hands and face when you get home if its outside, if its inside, get rid of what's doing it
Sebastian Brown
Overall a nice song, makes me imagine standing at a long lonely beach with blue sky and all that. Has a soothing vide to it.
Not a fan of the riff though. I think a saw isn't the best synth for it. I'd much rather go for a sine. Alternitively you could lower the attack and volume to not make it stand out so much.
Right now it sounds like it's been tacked on top of the song if you get what i mean. Too dominant for a chill song like that. Also. I'd remove the noise part at 0:32. It makes you expect something to happen, like the drums kicking in, but nothing actually happens. Let the bass begin just like that, it's unexpected enough to keep the listeners attention, but not too exiting for the songs overall theme.
Other than that, I've got nothing to complain. Nice work.
Aiden Ramirez
Yeah some vsts allow modulation knob. But then it helps to have a midi keyboard with a modulation knob or ability to assign, look at how this guy wheels his strings youtube.com/watch?v=sxhS0qUceLc
Alexander Martin
>stretch anything melodic with strings with pauls TS to get the ambience Thanks for the Paulstretch advice Just had a double shot of espresso then accidentally Paulstretched a Moondog song to be an hour long and I think I wrote a new Penderecki piece Will continue to explore this
Anthony Price
Really appreciate the thoughts! Thanks! I tried a sine first instead of the saw, but it didn't sounf right. It needs to be a sound with texture. You're definitely right about the noise part at 0:32.
Evan Green
>It needs to be a sound with texture. Yeah, I imagined that's what you were going for. But as I said, in my opinion it's a tad too overpowering. Just a slight volume reduction would help balance out the saws harshness and the songs calmness.
Jackson Butler
I barely hear a hiss even with the volume up loud. Not a big deal
But if you really want to get rid of it, ask whoever mixed it if they used analog-style plugins, and if they could turn the "analog" button off on them to get rid of any simulated hiss/hum. Unless they mixed with actual analog gear
Cooper King
Perhaps someone has Korg MonoPoly banks to share?
Brayden Cook
What are some better ways to make a sample grittier and more lo-fi besides bitcrushing? I'm getting really sick of the way it sounds but I dunno what other options I have
>clyp.it/y4y4vbty time stretch samples until they sound stretchy, realtime pitch shift audio, and lightly bitcrush of everything. throw some acoustic guitar into the mix and hey your fennesz.
Ian Barnes
clyp.it/lwlvq30d looking for some feedback on this. made it in about 45 minutes but i cant really transition the sections correctly
