Why aren't you using GNU/Linux, Sup Forums?

Why aren't you using GNU/Linux, Sup Forums?

>faster
>infinitely more secure
>no forced updates
>no spying
>shit literally just werk

i fucking hate the penguin

Because my home PC is for gaming and Linux is shit for gaming. I also don't feel like making my own fucking drivers.

better than a window or an apple

>Linux is shit for gaming
really depends on the game, and even then you could do something like qemu with kvm to get 99% native performance on literally anything

>I also don't feel like making my own fucking drivers.
u wot
when was the last time you used linux?
nowadays you only need to choose if you want to use proprietary or free drivers

Linux still has a shit selection for games

>no forced updates
You clearly are too new to remember when system was transitioned in to every modern major distro

I revived my laptop with Ubuntu after the HDD corrupted. It's light enough to run off a USB stick. But past that, it's basically a key to my laptop's ignition.

>no spying

You're naive if you believe this.

Show me malicious intent in any core part of the Linux kernel or the supporting userland since the 80's

Ill wait

Just because the malicious intent wasn't put there by the original creator of Linux it doesn't mean it can't be put into there by other companies. Linux isn't fully open source/libre, it has tons of binary blobs and a lot of code contributed from other companies. If you really want to be secure then use OpenBSD.

useless at user level

cus i like playing my whole steam library not like 30%

>nowadays you only need to choose if you want to use proprietary or free drivers

Yeah, say that to the laptop I had 3 years ago. Autonomy on Windows: 6h minimum. On Linux: 1h maximum. Drivers are a hit or miss and when they miss it's horrible.

While I'm here, anyone know how to fix a corrupted drive with Linux? Could I create a new HDD partition? I just want my damn torrents back.

Because I'm not a retard that needs Unix for Kids(TM), so I use FreeBSD instead.

>Linux isn't fully open source/libre, it has ... a lot of code contributed from other companies.
Is it your opinion that code can't be open source if it has multiple contributors?

Ok fagtards, give me a distro to use, i want customizability > everything, and just to play steam games on the occasion

>cant find a single documented case in 40 fucking years to support their claim
K.

No one is forcing you to use those binary blobs. You can get linux-libre or go in and create your own kernel image without things you dont like, thats the openness of Linux.

>*bsd
BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAH
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH
*WHEEZ*
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHHAHAHA

He was clearly talking about the Amazon spyware in Ubuntu, you bampot. Not everyone is hot for LFS.

This is ridiculous scare-mongering, predicated by a lack of knowledge.

Of course there is no "secret spyware" inherent in the Linux kernel. That would be too easy to find, and it would be too easy to find who did it.

He's not wrong about one thing, though; OpenBSD is one of the most secure "fresh install, no tweaks needed" OS's in existence.

>hey user, teach me data recovery, casual-like.
Either pay for the data recovery and get your shit back like a loser, learn a skill that likely won't help you this time around or ever like data recovery, or be a reasonable person and

>redowload your gay gerbal porn
>take regular, reasonable backups

Just remember, if you didn't back it up, you didn't think it was worth saving. If it's worth the time to have it's worth the time to save it.

The second you want software that isnt in their tiny tiny repo of "secure" "scanned" software, your security goes out the fucking door.
BSD is "secure" with its inital setup and thats it

bumping this

...

Arch

...

"tiny tiny repo of "secure" "scanned" software"

> As of August 2017, there are over 27,495 ports available in the collection

Yeah, who knew that nearly 28,000 different choices was just a "tiny tiny selection".

As of right now:
Debian Repo Packages:
68667
Arch Repo packages
9696
Arch Aur Packages:
43069

So yes, tiny

Because Linux is terrible unless you're unemployed and want to waste hours setting it up correctly
Your reward for this is:
>very limited selection of games run on it and forget AAA new release titles
>extremely poor driver support for newer hardware
>where drivers do work, half of the functionality is limited compared to the windows version, especially printers
>lacking a decent selection of good video and audio editing software
>lack of support from software vendors if you need to run proprietary commercial software for work

implying im not using linux.....
>windows for vidya linux for everything else

But I am using GNU plus Linux, OP.

>Games

too lazy

Fucking FireFox.

If "we're spying on our users so we make money and they keep getting a web browser" isn't malicious intent, then neither is Windows 10.
