This might be a stretch, but I think he's a guy who planned this for a really long time. As in, he always dreamed of doing this since he was a kid or teenager.

Like maybe growing up he wanted to do something like this, but never had the balls/money/means/etc. Maybe he was an otherwise "regular" guy who resolved himself to living life normally until he "couldn't" anymore, and then he would go out in a blaze.

I'm a construction worker. I love my job. It's physical, it's varied, it requires thinking about angles, being indoors, being outdoors. There is one aspect of my job I hate. An AR15 isn't anywhere close to "military grade". It's still one trigger pull = on r round fired. The addition of a collapsible stock or forward assist does not make it any more deadly than your standard hunting rifle.

I understand. The question was implying an AR-15 is not a military platform, which is stupid, as it quite clearly is. It's the civilian version of the M16. The fact that the military currently uses a fully automatic carbine version of that platform, now called the M4, is quite irrelevant.
And by the way, I think full autos should be legal anyway. The 2nd amendmend was designed to arm the people as a safeguard against the government becoming too powerful. That doesn't work if the people are only allowed to be armed with inferior weapons.

Yeah you really don’t. The civilian AR-15 was developed from the Stoner AR-15 which was sold to the military, and redesignated as the M-16. AR stands for Armalite Rifle, Model 15. They went through 14 other models before they got their government contract.
Now the civilian model AR-15 and the military M-16 can share most of their components if the civilian AR-15 is mil-spec.
However, the 2 most important pieces - the fire control group and the receiver - are not interchangeable. You can’t put the FCG of a M-16 inside an AR-15 - and without the FCG and the receiver, it’s just another rifle chambered in an intermediate round best suited for small/medium game and varmint hunting.
The civilian AR is not, never has been, and never will be a military grade rifle. Colt developed them solely for the purpose of making money off the recently returned Vietnam vets and the select people who wanted to have something that looked like current military firearms back when the civilian model was released.
