i love it. my buddy in 10th grade realized i was oblivious to good music and took me to their show. it blew my mind and thus began my journey to patricianhood.
before this i didn't really have taste so much as resentment for what my friends would play (guitarstudentcore)

also i made a little song sampling them last night

Really? Link?

the opening to jellybones is the greatest thing ever recorded

used to be my ringtone

This is my favorite album. The only album that comes close is maybe Mount Eerie. But my nostalgic connection with this is so deep. I spent 3 months of my ninth grade year listening to this everyday. So yeah, i'd say its pretty fuckin good and im bummed i never got to see them in concert.

In my top 10

Good idea!

It's time to replace nostalgic reptilia breakdown in 8bit

This was first indie album I bought for myself. Suggested to me by a friend at stanford philosophy camp.

I still haven't really found a song that gets me as excited as the piano shuffle from the intro to this album.

Maybe Jet from wings?

One of my favorites of all time. Love the Islands as well and Thorburn's side projects. Can't wait to see Mister Heavenly in November

Wonderful album. I like the demo versions they did of the songs on this album even more, though.

Part of me wishes these guys put out more stuff, but I also realize that it would probably ruin their legacy anericanfootball-style

>stanford philosophy camp.

In an AIM chat over dialup on a toshiba plugged into the phone jack in the kitchen. I ordered the album off of amazon using a giftcard.

I was at UCSB when I read on a library computer that they had broken up. Also Elliott Smith died that year. What a shitty way to start adulthood.

I am 32 and NEET for a year now.

Les Os was playing in the background in a friend's room off campus while I took whiskey shots for the first time and she put on her makeup and was complimented on how well I took shots.

There was a popular unicorns teeshirt at the time that was pink, I've been meaning to look for one.

I need a job.

This has been Tales from the Early Two Thousands.

I lost a t'ai chi library book in a santa barbara thriftstore while looking for a halloween costume.

their recent live shows are on youtube and it's so depressing how uninterested the audience is.

They're from a time when indie music hadn't gentrified yet. The kids buying crazy expensive tickets with their parent's money now aren't going to really appreciate the shamblyness.

poptimism ruined music desu

touché

they got together for a tour but didn't record any new music, but the new Islands album "Should I Remain Here At Sea?" starts with the lyric "those songs we used to sing / we haven't sung them in so long / i'll sing one with you now" and ends with the same lyric except the last line is "I'll sing one for you now", instead of "with you", suggesting maybe (maybe) it was originally meant to be new Unicorns material

great album. no other strong feelings about the band themselves because this is their only right? besides that first one which was just demos for this one or something.

it's better than most things in this world

i think this is my chance to make someone jealous for once:
>be me, 16, second time going to see the unicorns
>about 10 people get on stage with various instruments
>"hi, we're the unicorns"
>plays first song, blowing the our tiny hipster minds
>people all like, "wow the unicorns got a ton of new members and an amazing new sound"
>"just kidding we're the arcade fire, unicorns are up next. hope you like our music"
>one friend buy's the album, sends it to all of us via AIM the next day

also i forget who they opened for but i saw MGMT at the same spot when they were called the management and just hung their instruments from bungee chords off a big PVC triangle and slapped them once in a while

i miss that era of indie music

also ive seen islands 3 times for free! just walk right in and start dancing! they don't check tickets or something! **are you jealous yet!????!**
someone please envy me

i envy you, user. i miss mid-2000s "quirky" college indie
probably the last "movement" in music there was before the internet just became an equalizer & homogenizer for everything

Imho it ended when i heard “heads will roll”

You all have no idea how happy you made me, knowing these guys still had an active fanbase. Thank you so much.

Tuff Ghost is fantastic, and The Clap is a super underrated track

I fell in love with them at first sight, loved the aesthetics, the name, the artwork, but when I gave it a listen... boy that was a major disappointment

I HATE YOU
I HATE YOU TOO

Fantastic album. Tuff Ghost > Ghost Mountain > Sea Ghost is one of the best 3 track streaks ever.

I'm listening to their old stuff again, trying not to cry. I wish I could relive discovering them and listening to everything they made. I miss that summer.

This thread is so comforting

the eunuch porns

2003 - 2007 was a magical time for indie music

we are all unicorns
we are all dead

Th’ Corn Gangg

>Be teen in early 2000s
>Religiously read Pitchfork
>Always on Soulseek
>Shitposting on Hipinion
>Discover amazing bands like AnCo and many others

There will never again be an era of music as comfy as 2000s indie...

Oh my god what went wrong :......(

such incredible album, really felt this one.
