The point of these threads is to encourage people to look for new and interesting music. We do this by listening to and ideally discussing albums we've never heard before. Many of us already listen to new music daily, these people are in it to venture "out of their comfort zone" by listening to albums they otherwise wouldn't have, or just to have a good time.
>Kaleidoscope - Side Trips As with most of these early psych records it's a bit of an eclectic mix, jumping around styles from Middle Eastern inspired psych (great) to ragtime (kinda boring), mostly through the prism of Byrds-y pop. Overall at 26 minutes it's short and sweet, with the 'eastern' songs (Egyptian Gardens, Why Try) being the best. 3.5/5
>Moby Grape - Moby Grape Decent but boring. Generic mix of pop songs and blues rock with a bit of Mod influence without the energy. I don't really get why they're spoken about, maybe they were better live. 2.5/5
>Pierre Henry & Michel Colombier - Messe pour le temps présent I'm not sure quite what to rate this, the first 5 which have proper psych songs as a framework for the electronic wankery are great but the rest that are purely electronic are bad. It was weird hearing the Futurama theme song out of nowhere as well. 3.5/5 for the start, probably 1.5/5 for the rest.

Oneohtrix Point Never - Rifts (2009) >progressive electronic, drone
Two and a half hours of early OPN, good stuff. I never really noticed how active and distinctly prog-based his earlier work is, it seems that after Memory Vague/Eccojams he changed his style to a much more vaporwave/ambient based sound. Some tracks here are vaguely amateurish and more noodly than I like my OPN, while the vast majority hits that sweet spot of hazy, dream-like drone he does so well that I love so much.
3.0-
Patti Smith Group - Radio Ethiopia (1976) >art rock, proto-punk
Off the heels of Horses, Smith takes the sound of her riotous debut to new, sometimes less-than-stellar territories. Her punk is as rock solid as it always was, it's when she strays away from that sound that she starts to run into some trouble. The piano-based tracks, my least favorite part of horses, rear their ugly head once again here, and the 10-minute long, proto-industrial title track misses it's mark, despite it's best, experimental intentions. Smith's vocals and poetry are both tremendous, though, as are the punk tracks.
2.5+
Fripp & Eno - (No Pussyfooting) (1973) >ambient, drone
Fripp is all over this one, he definitely takes a dominant role over Eno. Eno's typical spacey soundscaping is obviously prevalent across this whole album, but the vast majority of the runtime is taken up by Fripp's soloing. Not even guitar soloing in an experimental Fred Frith/Stars of the Lid type way, dude is straight-up doing King Crimson solos over Eno's ambient base. It's an effect that moves little over forty minutes, but is effective and strikingly beautiful nonetheless.
3.0
Andrew Clark
Terror - Keepers of the Faith (2010) >beatdown hardcore, hardcore punk
The only thing I can and will say about this is that beatdown hardcore is not for me.
0.5+
Leo Peterson
Colin Stetson and Sarah Neufeld - Never Were the Way She Was (2015) >post-minimalism
Beautiful, Stetson and Neufeld work together incredibly well. Stetson is the base of these tracks, unsettling and evoking with the dark, bellowing sax tones he's known for. Neufeld is more in the fore-front, her violing piercing and lulling over Stetson's drones, creating a beautifully hypnotic effect I can't say I've ever heard before. Most of the tracks sound the same, and this is definitely one of the album's downfalls, but the beauty and the unique nature of the sound allows me to overlook this.

I heard kokomo for the first time in a long while today and that song is still such a fucking banger. That goddam sax solo lights it up

Finally finished my tourney.
Dogwander: zeitkratzer / Svetlana Spajic / Dragana Tomić / Obrad Milić – Serbian War Songs >Slavic Folk Music, Noise, Industrial It’s incredible how good the the singing style fits the harsh industrial background. It evokes a postapocalyptic setting where two warring factions march into battle in front of a bleak, bombed out landscape while singing to brace themselves for their probable death (which means the cover fits perfectly). It’s in no way primitive though, there’s always some kind of drone or chirping sound going on and the metallic sounding string section adds a lot of feeling of oppression. Surprisingly the whole thing sounds really crisp for something that appears to be a live recording. I would’ve liked to blast this during my last holiday when I came through Serbia, the still not renovated ruins of Belgrade would have been a great background. 4/6
NoveltyCondom: Zabelle Panosian – I Am Servant of Your Voice: April-May, 1917 >Armenian Music I can’t really decide if I like this or not, but it’s definitely interesting. As expected after reading the title, the recording quality is far from flawless, but the crackling sounds actually add to the haunting atmosphere. For me, it might be more interesting in a historical way (after all, it is a recording of female vocals accompanied by piano from a refugee of the Armenian genocide from 100 years ago!) than from a musical standpoint and it would probably bore me if it was any longer, but its 30 minutes runtime fit perfectly. 3/6
Dogwander wins, congrats! You can give 5 albums or so to drone you a bit, or I could choose from your rym/chart, it's your choice.
Did you listen to their latest release? Is it good?

I'll throw some albums your way in a bit!

I am asking if I can post Mega links here, or if I'll get banned.
I recently purchased some Fishmans DVDs from Japan that I ripped. Along with some other cool recordings.
Aiden Jenkins
i will personally ban you if you don't stop posting about those fishmans :}
Asher Roberts
yes absolutely
Do one of the following 1. post them here AND in sharethreads 2. just post it in a sharethread and link to the post here
Luis Gray
What is a share thread? Where do I find those lol
Also I think I've already sent you most of what I have on RYM. There may be one or two new recordings though.
It's still uploading the Long Season Revue, that may take a while.
Also I can't properly rip Liquidroom 1996. It always distorts the file. Dunno what to do with that.
Nathan Campbell
There's not one up rn so nevermind
usually you can find them in the catalog as /SHARETHREAD/ in the topic

what's your rym long boy did you come here from there? im confused you know about daily but not about sharethreads

I can't really put my finger on what this album makes so great, but I get shivers down my spine when I listen to it.
I've heard of share threads but I'm not super familiar with how they work.

Nobovar Chanorov and the Shams - Legendary Album with Muboraksho
This is interesting. Tajik folk pop (I've seen the language listed as both Farsi and Tajik, I couldn't tell you which) with local trad. folk influence (so it says, anyway, I know very little of Tajik culture) and production inspiration from a wide variety of modern genres. Vocalist Chanorov has a wonderful voice, but the over the top effects more often than not take the wonder out of it. The more traditional tracks are really cool and fun, but the ones that veer on the extremely contemporary side are mostly lame and sound like the music you'd hear in a tacky but extremely expensive restaurant with a vague middle eastern theme. Also, this band is from a place called Region of Republican Subordination, which is quite the name.
I was surprised to see that the alphabet the tracks use had Ғ in it, I thought only the Kazakhs had that.
Their new release comes out tomorrow. Somehow, it hasn't leaked.
Easton Thompson
okay i uploaded everything I have, PM me on RYM if you want it :)

Walking on a Dream is one of the greatest Pop songs forreal. We Are The People is good too, but yea the rest isn't great.
That Sampha album was great. And I am a high key trap fan. TNGHT is probably the peak of the entire genre though lol.

Also listen to Polaris' first album "Home". It's not as good as anything the fishmans have ever done but still cool.
