Depends on the country and instance it is used. The term "college" has multiple meanings. It's sort of all over the place tbqh. For example the undergraduate school of Harvard University is called Harvard College. Dartmouth College is effectively a university and has graduate students and yet they're not called Dartmouth University. Wesleyan University is basically just a liberal arts college but it's not called Wesleyan College.

these are extreme examples and you know it. in the US it's pretty consistent: colleges are for undergraduates, universities are for both undergraduates and graduate students.
in other countries, there is a difference: in France a "college" is a high school, and in England one university can contain several colleges (which at this point are more like residence halls, as I understand it, although maybe a brit can straighten me out).

I wasn't trying to say there's no pattern. Yes, there is a general idea of a college primarily serving undergrads and university being a combination of the two and focusing on research but my point was that there isn't a set definition in America. If a college starts admitting graduate students, they usually don't change their name. When I said there's no uniformity, I meant that you can't really judge something by its name of college or university, since the two terms are used in American conversation interchangeably, with college probably being used more often when generally referring to post-high school study. As far as I'm aware people outside of the US don't use the terms interchangeably. I have never heard a Brit say college when they mean uni.

no undergrad in the us says they go to "university" and no grad student says they go to "college", so I'm not really sure they're used interchangeably in conversation.
i think what you maybe mean is, you can't always tell from the name what kind of institution a school is. but i'd argue that most of the time, you can.
Oxbridge's collegiate system is essentially smaller micro-campuses where students necessarily both live and study (e.g if you live in Magdalene you will also take your course there and be taught by professors there).
In other collegiate unis like York, each college simply encompasses a cluster of residential and teaching blocks, but students don't necessarily live and study in one college.

Adolescent to Young Adult Education—English focus
Got moved back and forth between my parents. I went to 1 primary school, 2 intermediates and 3 high-schools. Made a group of friends at each one only to have to leave them and start again. At the time I didn't realize it but later on, it probably effected me a lot.
One day in high-school I completely dissociated in the middle of a class. My vision went 2D and flat, I completely felt disconnected from my body, eyes, ears, everything. It felt like I was suddenly in a dream or I had just dropped acid. Went to the hospital and they said I had just had a panic attack. 7 years later I'm still 100% dissociated and have never come back to reality. I still feel like I'm in a dream every day and so I've not done anything for 7 years.
