What's your favorite progressive rock song?

I can't find a prog rock song that I like more than Close to the Edge.

Genesis' Watcher of the Sky and Pink Floyd's Any Colour You Like are tied for second.

That's actually good, I'd never given Rush a chance.

Such an amazing song and album, still my favorite album by Yes

Nevermind, I instantly started hating it when Geddy started singing.

Polygondwanaland demo. Unironically.

Close second.

You'll also then want to listen to Xanadu, Cygnus X1 Book I and Book II, and the entirety of Permanent Waves and Signals.

Also recommend trying Lord of Lightning and the Balrog off King Gizzard's Murder of the Universe.

Oh shit, this is good. They've actually managed to drop two 10/10s in one year

Should I ignore all the Yes albums that came before Fragile? They sound more like pop rock than progressive rock.

Like I heard songs like Sweetness and it reminds me more of Fleetwood Mac.

It hasn't been dropped obviously (the demos leaked) and there's a rumour on King Gizz reddit they're planning on shitcanning it because it leaked, which would be a damn shame.

If they shitcan it I'll spread it hard, but until then I'm not uploading my copy because they asked politely not to and I respect them.

Tull's Thick as a Brick is unparalleled in my eyes.

These are also top choices.

The Yes Album is essential, Time and a Word is pretty good too but i don't consider it a progressive rock album, i haven't listened to their self titled yet.

Sweetness is probably the most pop-rock-like on the album and even that is not that far off from the regular Yes prog sound. s/t opens with Beyond And Before, which is absolutely prog.
So no, you shouldn't ignore any Yes albums that came before Fragile. If you're going to ignore anything, ignore Union. Not because it's not prog, just because I don't like it.

prog is for nerds
