Is Canada the only country on earth without a school lunch? Even complete shitholes luke Ukraine and Brazil have school lunches. Why dont we? Also what were you given for lunch at school in your country?
Is Canada the only country on earth without a school lunch...
There's lunches in high school though
Yeah but even then you just buy what you want. Its not like other countries.
Lunch at my school was garbage, usually a mush of minced beef with rice and beans, very different from your pic. I would just bring a pack of cheetos/cookies and drink it with the juice they served.
In America we have
>square dough with pizza-related toppings on top
>wet bun with chicken-esque burger-esque filling in between
>cartons of low-quality milk
>mushy vegetables
Canada has less of a lunch than this?
Nah mum packs your school lunch here
Unless you're a rich cunt and she gives you like 10 bucks for the canteen every day.
>tfw my mum froze the bread and didn't defrost it, so I had soggy tuna and cheese sandwiches for school lunch every day
Depends on the province. None of the four K-12 schools I studied at provided lunches.
t. oronto
look like garbage
>old elementary school used to have fairly decent-quality chicken nuggets on Mondays and then on Fridays, based rectangle pizza
>tfw these were the highlights of my week because I was picked on and had no friends
They had lunches at my high school but most people just went to the nearby strip mall and bought food
So do you have to buy any of those meals, or does the school provide it for free ?
>that huge piece of brie
no one eats that for lunch no way
>School kids are going to a strip joint at lunch time
My gosh Canada is even more degenerate than I thought
Free, because the government think it's wrong to discriminante poor students
You pay like a yearly or monthly fee unless your family is poor
You could pre-pay for a month's worth (they punched a card after you gave your name) if you didn't want to pay $1.25 a day.
This was the early 2000s. There was even a lady who sold soft salted pretzels, cookies, and Lay's brand potato chips in the back of the lunchroom. In the summer, she'd sell Italian ices. I remember cookies were $0.25, a bag of chips was $0.75, and the pretzels were a dollar, but they were fucking massive.
no free school lunch for us, we have to buy our own lunch from canteens
we don't have it
Free school lunch aren't that good. I am from worst Korea and people just don't eat 'free' school lunch if they have $$ cuz those are subpar quality
>tfw kept forgetting to ask my mom to renew my school lunch subscription and so had to keep doing menial labor to pay off my school lunch tab
>all the lunch ladies thought I was the poorest kid at school because I could never pay my school lunch tab
you pay about 4000 yen ($35-40) a month.
quality is so-so
i wouldn't mind if its free but if you're gonna pay for it, i'll just stick to preference buying
Our school ""Lunches"" are memes
We don't have school lunches either.
There's always those kids who love the shitty pizza way too much.
I kinda liked the mechanically separated chicken patty with cheese though to be honest.
Everytime I see quality of school lunch in most public school, I doubt if those school lunch will serve the purpose of 'nourishing children in the most optimal way' as told by government and so.
We don't have school lunch either.
Usually available in boarding school. Free foods. I like the menu on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. On some occasions, free foods for all students.
so if you had to do a school lunch system and the food had to be healthy and affordable how would you do it? stuff like growing some food on campus?
just buy from local farmers
>tfw you will never have pizza and chocolate milk everyday for lunch
I envy our fellow americans
My parents didn't trust school lunches so I always brought something from home.
>K-6
absolute shit tier food + madatory veggie + milk + optional juice. during the last year i was there they got rid of chocolate milk because there was too many fatties and started making """home made""" lunches. they were still shit
>7-8
slightly better. same shit except with water instead of milk
>9-12
actually pretty decent and good variety. chinese food, pizza, burritos, chicken tendies, and pasta. bottle of water and optional veggies and milk.
lunch normally costs 3 dollars a day. if you're poor its 40 cents. if you're really poor it's free.
Tfw mom was a control freak and made sure I always brought my own lunch because she didn't trust school foods.
Yeah high school lunch is good here
Had chicken tenders or burritos every day for four years
>My highschool stopped selling pizza bagels because they were "unhealthy"
>Keeps selling french fries and other fried bullshit
I was so mad. Besides that though they sold pretty good shit and a lot of it was homemade.
Some shitty daily asian foods
in Indonesia we have a canteen with lots of vendors. the richer the school, the shittier/more generic/overpriced the food
We pack our own shit or buy it off the tuckshop.
No, in Norway people take food from home, it's called matpakke or skolemat
Like half the world doesn't you dumbfuck.
We have canteens which you can order lunch from though. Usually mummy will pack you something.
>tfw was lazy and didn't bug my mom about lunch money and just mooches off of food friends didn't want
>would usually have a a regular sized meal by the end of the lunch period and it almost became a routine for them to give me there uneaten or half eaten food.
>When I grew tired of simple rations I would go into the lunch line and try to check out a simple entree.
>it would always decline and one of the lunch ladies would notice this
>after the main rush slowed down she would let me get a free entree of whatever they were serving cause she felt sorry for me
>other lunch ladies bitched that she shouldn't do it
>she didn't give a fuck
>bit soon my greed grew to encompass me, driving me to get niggery digger with it.
>swindle an ice cream cone, had done it multiple times before, same rules as lunch lady entree
>turns out they had been watching me on closed circuit television and had caught me in the act.
>principle goes through the whole "is everything ok at home" talk.
>pssh whatever ho I just got a GameBoySp for Christmas I'm hot shit.
>get sentenced to 2 days iss (Im school suspension) for it.
>orchestra teacher is there and tries to act hard. "You think it's ok to steal huh? I've got a family and I wake up at 5 every morning to make sure..."
>pssssh whatever, you get paid to pick strings while I pick tendies
>When I get out I'm the talk of the lunch room and get mad respect from the black kids
>teachers ask why I did it
>pssssh whatever
Do this day I remember that based lunch lady, hope she didn't get fired due to her giving me free food.
This is dumb and if you were poor you should've just turned in the lunch form to get free lunch.
YOUR dumb for not playing the system like the innocent little lamb it is.
No in netherlands you can buy something, but almost everyone brings sandwhiches
In Canada they'd provide kosher, halal, vegetarian and vegan options. Imagine the costs.
We have nothing of the sort in Denmark (public schools that is). Though every school has a cantina in some shape or form where students can buy food.
But nobody minds bringing their own food, because thats how it is and what everyone are used to. That, and every education is totally free for all, helps a lot.
No. I went to a catholic private school. The nuns made sandwiches, tacos, burritos, corn dogs, etc. You had to pay for what you were having. Good times.
We haven't had since like the 1960s. The good part is that it means we dodged el cheapo in terms of school food, where only fried potato chips and random cheap shit is served due no knowledge on the chefs part.
