Yea, I guess. It's not a bad job. The firm I work for is pretty damn generous with time off (we're closed on every federal holiday, even the stupid ones like Columbus Day).

I typically only work 45-50 hours a week which isn't bad at all compared to most firms.

The people I work with are very cool and nobody ever calls you out for coming in late/leaving a bit early, etc. as long as you're getting you're getting your work done.

sounds like a nice job. do you ever tell people you browse and post on Sup Forums ?

I have to know a whole bunch of fancy languages, tell them to do stuff, watch them not understand how to do stuff, and get yelled at and held responsible when something slips by and makes us look bad. A lot of mentoring, a lot of arguing, a lot of stress. Come to think of it, it's not as great when you consider it's generally closer to 60-70 hour work weeks than it is 40-50.

Man, wtf. Adults made working as an adult seem like you'd be a millionaire effortlessly, especially if you joined the military.

>First job out of school
>Working environmental for cleanup of unregulated landfill
>They were planning to build retail where the land fill used to be
>Each pad (spot where building was going to be) had its own contractual requirements for how deep they would dig out trash (20 feet, down to virgin soil, etc.)
>One pad where they were going to put a movie theater was about 40 feet deep (down to virgin) and the size of well a movie theater.
>Oddly enough there was a sewer main going right through the excavation supported in the middle by a column of soil and debris they left.
>Me and two other techs are down in the excavation looking at a weird substances they came across.
>Suddenly the air smells bad, like really bad.
>Water appears around our feet.
>The senior tech looks at us and says "GET OUT!"
>We climb a 40 foot slightly sloped wall of trash to get out of excavation before hole fills up with raw sewage.
>The column had collapsed while we were in there and the sewer line broke releasing its contents.
>To this day when I go by the theater I point out to people that I was almost drowned alive in raw sewage under that theater.

dod? contractor? is military cyber any cool? i thought thats where id like to work but i dont have much experience

you had a very easy childhood

Yeah, I would have been happier to have spent the last 20 years doing something else than organizing crap with Indians, Peruvians, and Ukranians. Most people say that what I do isn't life or death, but the industry we're in, we're recording stuff, and actually, we're supposed to capture deaths, and if/when that doesn't happen because somebody forgot to handle some null, that's an awful lot of money that may or may not go where it should.

that the joke

No.

>partly you didn't ask....more so because we don't know ourselves
