All the non-straight people I know fucking love RHPS. First time I saw it was with a genderfluid person (went by "Sarah" at the time, now goes by "Byrd") and I was one of the only straight people in the audience. It's really more about the experience than the film itself.
The remake is unquestionably gonna be shit, hiring Laverne Cox misses the entire point of the character of Frank-N-Furter.

The first half of RHPS is great fun but the melancholy tone shift in the last act is jarring. Shock Treatment stays peppy and campy throughout and ends on a high note; it's more fun as a standalone movie too while you really need a live showing of Rocky to get the full experience.

60% of the classic audience interaction boils down to "Janet is a slut" and "trannies are weird." Read any of the old audience scripts to see this. A new RHPS can't work in today's culture, unless it abandons what made the original funny.
O'Brien was trying to work out real issues with his "gender fluidity" into a schlocky musical, but just came off as making it even shlockier and weirder to audiences. Maybe the new one can accidentally achieve the same thing, but I doubt it.
I used to go RHPS at my college every year, but before I graduated in 2014, the whole event got totally taken over by SJWs. They gender-swapped a bunch of characters and went on and on about how progressive it was, and we had to endure an hour of shitty pre-film acts, including this blue-haired fat dyke lecturing us about fat acceptance. It was fucking retarded.

Things seem a little rushed in place but it's doing some visually interesting things like how they followed the funeral party through the graveyard. Stroked-out Tim Curry makes me sad though

The singing is ok. It feels a little cheesy in the dancing (graveyard scene) as in the dancing and actions didn't feel natural and feel counted out. Shrug.
