Not as great as The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, but I'm still waiting for it to make its inevitable ascension to meme-worthy cult status.
Also has James Gandolfini's only post-Sopranos role that's worth a damn.
>"I don't like to know them it's too messy, I like to kill them softly" >next scene has a beer with the guy he's going to kill and it ends with the guy in tears
dumb af movie
Jaxson Howard
Sorry, Killing Them Softly was a let down. yeahhh
Henry Jackson
That film was AWESOME. Truly fucking great action movie... man
And god damn was it smart and FUNNY too.
That sawed off shotgun scene had me literally rolling on the floor for a solid 10 minutes. I had to pause the bluray.
Evan Morris
fuck off
Joshua Rodriguez
Kiddies didn't like it though, so it god bad reviews from all the little mentally and literally 12-17 year old little boys.
Ayden Peterson
Honestly you little teenage white boy kiddies.. if you didn't "get" Killing Them Softly, then you probably have low IQ or some developmental disability. Re-adjust your brain, take your fucking meds, and watch it again without all your buillshit preconceptions you had going in.. from being so conditioned by all the HORSESHIT Holy-Wood garbage you've been so brainwashed by..
David Long
i felt the pacing was uneven and the movie had too many dry scenes, but i had a good time 7/10
Brandon Watson
HELL yeah BRAH
it was EPIC
Ryan Wood
>Also has James Gandolfini's only post-Sopranos role that's worth a damn
You're a fucking moron. He and Julia Louis-Dreyfus put in world-class performances in this.
Ryan Mitchell
>Also has James Gandolfini's only post-Sopranos role that's worth a damn. >not The Drop
fuck you OP, i like your pick but that's insulting to t

is enough said actually good? i like my bippidi boi james, and elaine looks strangely unhaglike here
Kevin Ortiz
This movie was so boring.
>20 minute talk about Jews Girls Asses
Yeah no thanks. If a good movie is boring then is not a good movie. Art should be enjoyable otherwise is just snobbish pretentious crap.
James Wright
never heard of this. most hyped I've ever been to see a movie recommended by Sup Forums
Bentley Carter
The book it's based on is cool, too. "Cogan's Trade."
And the other movie based on a book by that same author, The Friends of Eddie Coyle is also really good, it's from the 70s.
Christopher Hall
High functioning with a side of being drunk. Well, maybe just alcoholic. Who knows.
Caleb Stewart
good flick imho
Colton Mitchell
that movie was shit stfu and go back to Sup Forums with your bitchass

Jose Reyes
To be fair, I have not seen The Drop.
Jace Cook
you are shit just like your taste, stupid stinky plebbit faggot you should, it is good, and has james featuring quite a bit more than killing them softly
Luis Sanders
No, it's complete and utter shit. Tony gives a completely neutered performance and there isn't a single joke or gag in the entire movie that lands. It's a movie made by and for middle aged women.
Noah Jackson
Not him, but see it. It's a good one.
Kind of, sort of, similar sort of pace type deal.. or maybe even general vibe.. or something type deal as KTS.
Brayden Martinez
Sup Forums
Ian Reyes
OP here.
It isn't as kino as Armond makes it sound, but I consider it underrated because it got (unduly) shit on mercilessly when it came out in 2012.
Jackson Wilson
ive seen better heels on nxt and jesus christ whats the bound side on that dress? obviously she had two thoughts buying this dress, ill make it back in drinks, and i look like a storebrand emoji

their are legitimate shortfalls in this film but its a wonderful eyepiece as they say "abusing the medium" and has a dreamlike quality to it, i love it even though its not great
Samuel Turner
Dialogue was trash Aesthetic was great Story was dumb Movie would have been fixed if they made everyone except the Aussie black

Thomas Bailey
the film was made literally for this last scene alone. What a farce to watch the dogshit all before this scene.
Henry Robinson
The film is literally too smart for the US's overly, overtly, pervasively, DUMBED THE FUCK DOWN, audiences with the mental and emotional age of god damn 10 year olds.
Seriously. The US market demographic is a horrible thing to base any metrics, other than how much money you can extort with your low effort trash, on.
Leo Russell
Not Fade Away was a better post Sopranos Jimmy performance
Aiden Brooks
>tfw to smart to enjoy b-movie-tier mob flicks
Daniel Gomez
fug I completely forgot this movie existed.
I remember I loved it when I saw it, but I can barely recall anything about it now...
David Chase needs to get back to making kino
Ryder Allen
It's not a mob film though.
Good Fellas and The Departed are mob films. Damn good ones too. Killing Them Softly isn't a mob film, it's like a social commentary through extensive use of physical metaphor. It's really a great film. You just have to sit down and actually watch it with a clear head.
The Drop is ok too, but I'd put KTS more on part with something like Drive in terms of execution.
Easton Stewart
>GoodFellas and The Departed aren't also social commentary through extensive use of physical metaphor.
GoodFellas is an extended metaphor for why embracing a life of crime is suicide and The Departed is an extended metaphor for how to win a lifetime achievement Oscar by remaking a Hong Kong action flick.
Lincoln Thompson
i rec'd OP the drop earlier in the thread but didn't make any contribution of my own
see pic related, although i have no idea how popular or well received it was, i never hear anyone talking about it or see it mentioned here
Ryan Butler
Idiot, he only said that line because he was being asked to kill someone he knew. Holy shit you're dumb af.
Lucas Bell
ROVER IS BASED
KILLING THEM SOFTLY HAS THE BEST SLOWMO CAR CRASH IN ALL OF KINOGRAPHY
Isaiah Sullivan
OP here.
Saw the Rover about a year ago. Great concept, middling execution. Robert Pattinson is a better actor than Kristen Stewart will ever be. I think the only reason the French love her so much is because she's, admittedly, extremely beautiful. Also, I think The Rover holds (or at least held) the distinction of the lowest-opening-weekend-box-office-gross to number-of-theaters-it-was-playing-in ratio of all time.
Samuel Morales
>lowest-opening-weekend-box-office-gross to number-of-theaters-it-was-playing-in ratio tortured way of saying per-theater gross average
Jacob Lewis
one of my favorites, but the ending is what really got me
remember i was happy i hadn't been spoiled before seeing it, because it put so much more emphasis on the actual journey there
Luke Watson
Ok, whatever.. my real point was just that KTS isn't actually a "mob film" and then I listed some "actual" mob films to kind of illustrate that. It's not about the mob. It's about just trying to survive, just make in, in the harsh economic reality of the dog eat dog world of the United States, where you are literally all alone with no help.. and everyone is looking to step on your neck to get ahead.. Beyond the metaphor, Brad Pit's character literally directly says that exact thing in the movie.. he says, "In the United States, you are all alone"
Americans are so brainwashed, welfare is literally a dirty word. US doesn't even fucking have welfare. It's a fucking joke.
Ethan Carter
you don't know it, but you're about to turn this into a Sup Forums thread
or maybe you do
Nolan Murphy

I actually found it pretty comfy tbqh.
Samuel Brooks
>US doesn't even fucking have welfare Tell that to the African-Americans and inner cities, idiot. Welfare and welfare culture (i.e. black teenagers dropping out of high school to get pregnant and raise their kids in a single-parent household sucking off the government's teat and never getting off their fat asses to go find a job and contribute to society) is fucking killing this country. The Great Society was a fucking failure and everybody knows it.
Connor Reed
i'm not your lad, little faggot

I can't help that the US is a post-factual society full of brainwashed oxygen wasters who don't know their own asshole from a hole in the ground.
I didn't detail it, I just explained the essence of the movie in OP's post. That what it was about. It is mildly political in nature, though it only addresses that in metaphor.
Jonathan Russell
It's really about how the US is a doggy-dog nation. Nobody is "equal," there is no national "community," there is no binding, national "identity," and it's been that way from 1776 right through the Obama years of false hope and complete lack of change.
Kevin Brooks
Unless you are literally a multi-billionaire, oligarch, then being an-cap is as far removed from your own economic self interest as you could possibly be. Just call yourself a neo-liberal, because that's what you actually mean.
Let's not derail this thread though.
William Morris
i don't disagree with you, silly
i'm just mocking the obvious nature of what would happen as a result of you doing so, because of how spastic and lacking in self-control the average Sup Forums poster is, such that they can't ignore an imaginary slight and have to respond in some fashion or another to defend their beliefs (i said it would become a Sup Forums thread, and now we're on that train headed nowhere, nothing personal user)
Lucas Richardson
Yea, I agree.. but it's Dog-Eat-Dog.. not "doggy-dog."
*laughing*..
Jayden Rogers
I'm just memeing, Trumpism is the true path.
To take the thread back on course, though: Here's a criminally under-seen kino. Highly recommended for those who enjoy their socialist working-women porn with a side of romantic intrigue and a subplot involving stolen jewelry.
John Sanchez
post some underappreciated films dammit
Xavier Collins
I hole-hardedly agree, but allow me to play doubles advocate here for a moment. For all intensive purposes I think you are wrong. In an age where false morals are a diamond dozen, true virtues are a blessing in the skies. We often put our false morality on a petal stool like a bunch of pre-Madonnas, but you all seem to be taking something very valuable for granite. So I ask of you to mustard up all the strength you can because it is a doggy dog world out there. Although there is some merit to what you are saying it seems like you have a huge ship on your shoulder. In your argument you seem to throw everything in but the kids Nsync, and even though you are having a feel day with this I am here to bring you back into reality. I have a sick sense when it comes to these types of things. It is almost spooky, because I cannot turn a blonde eye to these glaring flaws in your rhetoric. I have zero taller ants when it comes to people spouting out hate in the name of moral righteousness. You just need to remember what comes around is all around, and when supply and command fails you will be the first to go. Make my words, when you get down to brass stacks it doesn't take rocket appliances to get two birds stoned at once. It's clear who makes the pants in this relationship, and sometimes you just have to swallow your prize and accept the facts. You might have to come to this conclusion through denial and error but I swear on my mother's mating name that when you put the petal to the medal you will pass with flying carpets like it’s a peach of cake.

How is it a metaphor for why embracing a life of crime is suicide?
It's a literal demonstration of that, a metaphor would be a figurative analog to that.
That's like if I was your teacher and I gave you F's on all your tests and told you those grades were a metaphor for how you're doing in my class.
Parker Phillips
Sorry, English is not my first language.

Historically and currently, whites were getting and do get more of that very limited (now almost non-existent) welfare the US than anyone else.. ever. So what happened? Well, the Southern Strategy, Nixon and then the original Trump, Ronald Reagan. Reagan was known for zingers like "Trees cause more pollution than cars" and other verses of pure brilliance. What happened was narrative, storytelling. Once again emotion (and emotional manipulations) triumph over facts, logic and all that boring ivory tower "truth" bullshit.. How very American indeed.
The totally fabricated narrative of the "welfare queen, driving her Cadillac to the pick up her food stamps" was the story and it was a story told quite effectively! This mythology was so damn successful it lives on to this day. People still believe that nonsense. But even before that was the Southern Strategy.. how do you get historically Democratic voting POOR Southerners to vote against their own interests? Make into an race issue rather than class issue, duh! Boom, instantly worked. Poor, uneducated, whites hate blacks more than they love themselves.
So they fiercely supported cutting their own benefits, their own entitlements, just so those god damn black neighbors can't get a damn penny neither! Merica, fuck yea!
/derailed
Lucas King
Yes, a greater number of whites receive welfare benefits than blacks.
BUT
The percentage of blacks receiving welfare is more than double their percentage of the total population of the country.
Elijah Thomas
Also >facts, logic
You'd think most liberals would've come to the logical conclusion by now that the welfare state incentivizes unemployment and it's holding millions back from getting a job and contributing to the economy.
Joseph Price
If you want to look at it from an honest, historical, perspective... then.. well shit it's the least you could do for the descendants of people who were used as slaves to enrich this country from a tiny set of colonies to a world power... and then treated like shit every step of the way from then till now..
When we say welfare, let's be clear.. we're literally talking about $1.50 per meal, per person, in food stamps, that can't even be used to buy many different food items banned in some places as "too nice for poor people."
It's not like what a European would think of when you say welfare. At all. Just to make that clear. Less than $200 per month, per person. That's essentially the only real mass welfare program the US has anymore. And it gets more and more cut, harder and harder to qualify every year.
Parker Hughes
You think I'm liberal. How cute.
Also, I see how much welfare state (you know, the actual welfare state, since the US does not have anything like that) is holding people back in the EU.
It's such a horrible thing, you know, having single payer health care and not having to go $30,000+ in debt just to get a basic fucking 4 year education. Such a hold back, having medical care and education.. let me tell you.
What we really need is an even bigger police and military budget. You know what else? Let's put more people in prison! "Only" 1 in 1000 American men is currently serving LIFE in prison. Let's up that to 1 in 200, why don't we?
Oliver Bailey
Slavery ended a century and a half ago.
The civil rights legislation of the Sixties was nearly 60 years ago.
You can't use those excuses in the current year when you can go to a prestigious school and get a degree with a 1400 SAT if you're black. Today, nothing is keeping African-Americans back but themselves. >inb4 institutional racism Give me one concrete example. Pro-tip: there isn't one.
Caleb Stewart
Slavery is irrelevant. Ironically, they will never be free so long as they are addicted to welfare. It's a cycle that needs to be broken
Samuel Diaz
Remove the African-American population and the prison population plummets dramatically.
Newsflash: Europe's welfare states won't survive under mass immigration and the replacement of the native populations with foreigners. It's already happening in Sweden.
