I love microtonal stuff but this sounds awful

whats your favorite?

if the Beatles had explored microtonality after some George’s Indian music (maybe in the white album), microtonal music would could become more popular world widely

this. that awful chink singing doesn't help

...

I have be a Sup Forums poster to think that singing is dogshit? get a grip

don't say chink

sorry

IT'S SO AWFUL. MAKE IT STOP MUUU, MAKE IT FUCKING STOOOP!!!!

>beatlesfags

This woman makes the only microtonal music I've ever heard outside of traditional world folk styles that actually sounds harmonically effective, for lack of a better word, and not just out of tune and bad/gimmicky.
youtube.com/watch?v=8re6rFj7q10

Ahhh. Please no more

This kinda sucks
He should at least learn to play in time

so I take it this is you?

>tfw want to save up for one of those dope microtonal keyboards
>tfw they no longer exist
>tfw the only one on the market is the less expansive hexagonal one
I feel a deep sadness

Life is microtonal. Let's be kind to others xoxo.
Black bird, yellow bird, white bird, we are all one. No sadness.

I bet they come up used sometimes. The maker says he's going to make them again too fortunately: hpi.zentral.zone/tonalplexus

Is microtonal the latest memefad?

What's the best equal temperament? My vote goes to 22.

this is also good

reminds me of ocarina/majora soundtracks

Holy shit, this literal ear rape. Western music sure does sound awful when microtonal, stop trying to make incompatible things work.

The composition itself is great, I'd listen to it any day, but the microtones suck.

This guy fucking gets it though. Notice how it sounds middle-eastern-ish.

That's because middle-eastern music IS microtonal.

youtube.com/watch?v=ATnEM5YT1GM

youtube.com/watch?v=J5eLFREBpIA

Let's ask Paul Mcc how he thinks.
Paul Simon already made microtonal works.

>stop trying to make incompatible things work.
this is so depressing. soooo depressing.

This was awful.

which is more awful?
youtube.com/watch?v=shcrw2vtmJU

do you genuinely think that's awful? why?

no this is amazing but just wanted to know

youtube.com/watch?v=XhUOLThuk10
postin' good shit

Brackbird singing in the dead of night.
Take these bloken wings and lealn to fry

thanks this is so good

270 is the best equal temperament for almost anything

just use a regular keyboard
midi is potent

there's no advantage in particular to using 100 equal, there are other temperaments that make a lot more sense

it's a super pain in the ass if you want something other than 12 notes per octave though

the advantage of using a weird keyboard is that you can change the temperament but still have some of the same intervals in the same places

>the arms
>singing into the guitar as a microphone

holy fucking shit dude

>Is microtonal the latest memefad?
NOPE ITS NOT

12 tone equal temperament was selected by SEMI-ARBRITRARY reasons
IF YOU DONT LIKE ANY OF THOSE REASONS YOU MUST USE ANOTHER TUNING

one of the rules (that made us use 12 tone equal temperament with octave) is that we dont play just one note at a time, and a note with another note with 2x its frequency is good.

This tell why we use octave, if you prefer something else you shouldnt use 12 ET with octave.

Then there is the fact we wanted that the next note is 1.5 times the previous one, this is imcompatible with previous rule (to every note you have a note that is 2x times this note frequency), so some compromise was to use equal temperament, because while the next note wont be 1.5 the previous note, you will have a note that is CLOSE to 1.5 times another note.

Then there is the 12 tones, before talking about this we must talk about piano.
Humans usually hear from 20hz to 20000hz, piano dont have the entire range, because at some point because the way piano is made, the sounds start to become shitty.

The 12 tones from 12 equal temperament, was selected because with those tones, you will have notes that will be really close to 1.5 times another one.

53 tones is a better choice and is the NEXT better choice (is better than 12 and anything between 12 and 53, and 12 is better than anything between 13 and 52), but the normal piano would become extremely huge.

If you dont consider the 53 tone equal temperament piano (with your own personal thrshold where the notes start to sound shitty) huge, you should use 53 tones (assuming you like octave and 1.5 rule)

This guy is an entertaining weirdo with occasionally interesting ideas, but not really a good example for microtonal music.

This micro cadence concept is really useful if you wanna write smooth microtonal music and songs.

love how bent this is, really captures a special kind of shitty day or something

look at the crazy bastard!

huh, I didn't know that was available on bandcamp

just went looking on youtube for it and couldn't find it, seems it's not there anymore. couldn't remember his name either but luckily stumbled across someone covering it.

Interesting to imagine that perhaps in another universe/dimension microtonal intervals could sound perfectly stable and consonant. Kind of like how a tesseract would have all right angles and sides equal length if viewed without dimensional distortion.

There's no reason they can't sound stable and consonant, just get used to hearing them.

lol

bumping with kino

>a quarter tone can sound just as stable as an octave or fifth, just get used to it!

physics doesn't work like that

>microtonal
When will this retarded meme die?

That's not what I meant. Quartertones aren't generally used as harmonic intervals in microtonal music, just as tone clusters aren't generally used in Western music. Microtonal doesn't mean using very small, dissonant intervals (although there isn't really anything wrong with dissonance either)

Also a small interval isn't even dissonant because of "physics", it's psychoacoustics.

But you can construct very exotic sounding chords that sound highly consonant despite being completely different from anything available in 12 equal.

fuck off brainlet

>microtonal
i.e. playing out of tune on purpose, fuck off.

>I don't even know what microtonal means.

Wow, this is actually incredible.

Sounds kinda like a 90's style Grizzly Bear cover. Great stuff.

what about Microtonal Jazz? Jazz is not Western music?

it's more that playing an existing piece of music in a different temperament doesn't necessarily sound good

Jazz is not Western music

then what is it?

fucking nips get off my website

thats just fooling around with a temperament, its not a specifically composed piece.

Its quite interesting to listen to, but its still just some guy fooling around.

nature and all music is inherently microtonal.

Look up the harmonic series (a naturally occurring scale), it is microtonal.

12TET is the meme, but it aint gonna die.

I will post my favorite microtonal piece:
youtube.com/watch?v=sHI2xyyH-CU

and pic related.

Syzygys is also pretty cool

it's worth noting also that 12 equal isn't a good approximation of the harmonic series. The third harmonic is well represented, the fifth harmonic is sort of approximated, but there's not really anything beyond that

Yes!!!!!! Syzygys is pretty indeed

Microtonal! Microtonal! Microtonal!

where do you buy your weed from?
