Here's some stuff which I'll
Siba & A Fuloresta - Toda vez que eu dou um passo o mundo sai do lugar
>traditional northeastern music mixed with rock / indie, I've seen people call it a brazilian take on Elephant 6 but I don't really agree
youtube.com
Batatinha - Toalha da Saudade
>depressing and bittersweet samba
youtube.com
Racionais MCs - Sobrevivendo no Inferno
>heavy rap, socially conscious lyrics, influence wise they're something like the brazilian Public Enemy
youtube.com
Itamar Assumpção - Beleléu, Leléu e Eu
>experimental mpb, funky as fuck, wonderful summer music
youtube.com
Arrigo Barnabé - Clara Crocodilo
>I don't even know what this is, experimental, very weird, mpb

youtube.com
I can post more shit if you guys want it
hell yeah
>Violeta de Outono
good
playful female vocals
Karina Buhr is underrated
youtube.com
great female-sung art pop/rock with incredibly diverse instrumentation and full of northeastern music influences
anons, do you have a good music scene where you live?
now this is a good post
Alright then lad, have some more
Belchior - Alucinação
>this is one of my favourite brazilian records but I'm not sure non-portuguese speakers will get it, since his biggest draw are probably his lyrics
youtube.com
Lula Cortês & Zé Ramalho - Paebiru
>at some point this was one of the most expensive records in the world, really trippy psych folk
youtube.com
Liverpool - Por Favor Sucesso / Marcelo Zona Sul
>hidden 60s psych gem, the Zombies meet mpb
youtube.com
Ovos Presley - A Date with Ovos
>punkabilly, the great thing here is that if you translate their intentionally shitty joke name it still sort of works as Eggs Presley
ovospresley.bandcamp.com
Gal Costa - S-T
>tropicália, psychedelia, Lanny Gordin on the guitars, one of the sweetest voices in Brazil's history
youtube.com
As Cilibrinas do Éden - S-T
>Rita Lee post-Mutantes, very fun traditional rock & roll with some psych tints here and there
youtube.com
Rakta - III

youtube.com
Facada - Nadir

youtube.com
youtube.com
Well, yes. underground brazillian rock is boomin right now. Lots of shoegaze, dream pop bands and other acts known genericly as "sad rock" (rock triste).
See here
youtube.com
youtube.com
youtube.com
youtube.com
Does anyone have the /bmg/ charts?
>genericly
generally
The last reply here is for you. I quoted the wrong post.
I'm sure this description fits any 100k > habitants city but it fits Belo Horizonte pretty well and if you're here, you're wrong, there's plenty of shit going on, specially in rap, punk and extreme metal.
Continuing since I have nothing better to do rn
Os Baobás - ST
>garage rock, despite being a covers only record, I really like the album and I'll link one of their few compositions along because this song is fucking DOPE
youtube.com
youtube.com
Os Brazões - ST
>funky heavy psych full of african-inspired percurssion
youtube.com
Ronnie Von - A Máquina Voadora
>this guy was a brazilian heart throb, but he hanged around with Os Mutantes, probably dropped some acid and decided to go full psych. Mostly ignored, the few people who listened to this actually demanded refunds, but it was eventually rediscovered
youtube.com
Fuzzfaces - Voodoo Hits
>garage revival, fuzzy as hell, one of my favourite records
youtube.com
Miêta - Dive
>shoegaze, dream pop, I'm really rooting for them, pls like this
youtube.com
Cadáver em Transe - ST
>post punk but more punk than post
youtube.com
Beach Combers - Ninguém Segura os Beach Combers
>surf, very influenced by 90s surf revival as pretty much every surf band in Brazil
youtube.com
Gasolines - Tanger Hotel
>Morricone inspired experimental surf, I will never not be mad these guys are not known enough even in Brazil, beautiful soundscapes
youtube.com
Legião Urbana is the shit
youtube.com
EU VOU FAZER UM SKATE QUE ELA NAO VAI SKATEEE
they're pretty good, but suffer from being way too overplayed here
Dois is a good album
Overplayed? Huh. I've never seen them here before, though I mainly lurk Sup Forums and Sup Forums.
I've been really liking As Quatro Estações these days, pretty good stuff, even some songs in English.
not the guy you quoted. but i think he meant here in brazil, not here in Sup Forums.
legião is brazillian dadrock
here, have some legiao covering a brazillian boy band on at their mtv unplugged
youtube.com
>Overplayed? Huh.
yeah, they're very popular in brazil, probably because the vocalist died pretty young. I lost count of how many times I had to analyze their lyrics on literature classes
youtube.com
this one is a classic
>probably because the vocalist died pretty young
it's because the melodies and vocals are damn good
youtube.com
Am I wrong in thinking this guy sounds a lot like Chico Buarque?
...
that too, yeah
do you have the other charts?
Oh. In that case, yeah, it's overplayed to hell and back, but mostly their "safer" stuff like Pais e Filhos.
And the lyrics are pretty meaningful too, like in Que Pais e Esse. The whole album was a sociopolitical commentary of Brazil in the early-mid 80's, and, unsurprisingly, is still pretty valid today.
The biggest problem comes from their lyrics, which while not completely shit, can still get pretty cringy. Also, the fact that a bunch of rich playboys think they invented brazilian punk while completely ignoring the actually cool bands (Olho Seco, Cólera, Ratos de Porão, etc.)
It does in a bad way, but I dislike both Los Hermanos and Chico Buarque (good composer, kinda dull guy, represents a kind of thinking in brazilian music which I deem extremely reactionary)
Yes, I have.
...
thanks, user
there are two more i can think of
one is yellow, with a greater number of artists
the other is nordestinocore
do you have them?
...
here, i'm back lads, want me to go on?
Great list but the actual term is paulistana since it refers to a movement from the city, not state of Sâo Paulo.
This?
What is Vanguarda Paulista exactly? Brazilian avant-prog?
yeah, thanks
Their 3 first albums are nice, but As quatro estações is probably my least favorite of theirs.
Anyone knows this Band: Mid or early 2000s / Girl Singing / From são paulo / I think they had a Math rock / Pop rock influence ?
Kinda hard to describe but you're kind of right. It was a late 80s scene whcih spawned around the Lira Paulistana concert house, but it's basically MPB influenced by modern music, post-punk, noise and experimental music
Ludov or Penélope probably
Avant-prog, samba, mpb and a lot of things mixed. It's just a term to put all the bands that were making some weird stuff back in the 80s in the city of São Paulo in the same bucket.
Well, Los Hermanos was a skacore band that escaped being an one hit wonder act by changing everything and also refusing to play their hit like some radiohead/creep shit.
Then they started making rock songs inspired by samba, more the feeling of early sad samba than the actual genre. So you are right but not for the right reasons (?).
they only made break up and relationship themed songs, were very influential in the early '00s and people who really like music are over them by now. Only 15yo girls and cucks listen to them.
they also pulled a LCD Soundsystem: said they were over but always make more gigs with expensive tickets; its always the last gig.
vanguarda = avant-garde
paulista = from São Paulo
fairly new around here, but i'm really interested in this thread!
i'll make a contribution with two of my favourite pieces in brazilian music
Vesperas Mandarinas made the album "Animal Nacional", and being honest, it is my favourite national rock album:
youtu.be
Also, Pullovers with "Tudo que eu sempre sonhei" youtu.be
The first song is my favourite, but it may be hard to catch it if you're a not a native speaker.
Can't believe nobody's rec'd Cae yet...
