There's a lot of differences between kpop and western pop music. I wouldn't call myself a fan of kpop, I don't follow any kpop groups, but I definitely do prefer it to western pop music. Kpop is very bright and happy music, and the instrumentation and synth choices sound a lot more varied. Western pop music tends to be a lot more cliche, but that could just be because people in western countries have more exposure to western pop and can easier identify the trends. Western pop music is currently going through a very minimal, sort of spacious and stripped back production trend, while kpop feels a lot more full and almost maximalist. Kpop tends to be very "cute"; the girls in the videos generally act very fun and playful, where in western pop music they tend to go for a more "sexy" type of image. This isn't always the case and ofcourse there's exceptions.
Would like to hear if anyone agrees or disagrees with this, it's a topic I've also been interested in.
