I just took the battery out of my DS lite, put it on power and it worked fine entirely without the battery while it was powered. Maybe his was just fucked, granted... shit breaks, but that's still a shadow of bullshit over the whole story.

Yeah except that was the first thing I mentioned not actually happening. When it's powered it will run, battery in / battery flat / battery removed. Power in = thing turns on immediately.
Not entirely sure why you're so defensive but I'm also not entirely sure I want to know why either.
