most of your peers think that you're intelligent, and you probably think so too, but not to as much of a degree as your peers do. you know that your taste in art is pretty surface level but you don't mind because you have just enough of an artistic quirk to get positive attention

You're a hipster.
you've thought of commiting a crime (not murder or rape though) and wanted to make plans to do so but then you fell asleep and couldn't remember what you were thinking about after you woke up.
aggressive and introspective, you have a grasp on what makes you quick to anger but you haven't gone further to understand how to fix these problems
the kind of person who throws around a full composer's name in casual conversation, but your phone rang at "shakespeare in the park," maybe you've even been to a live orchestra and you texted throughout half of it. you're a pseudo-intellectual and you've never been called out on it irl because you surround yourself with people far less intelligent than you.
boring sad boi, looks at dali paintings, gets an emotional response from said painting, but does not get a cerebral or mental reason as to why the painting makes you feel a certain way

Pink Floyd

Yahoo kusama
you are into twitch streamers, have tried to set up a twitch channel before but realized that your pc isn't the best or your background looks bad, or YOU look bad in front of the computer lighting. you probably play world of warcraft, and you probably shitpost on Sup Forums
you're either very old and experienced the punk years in such a way that it totally changed your persona, or you have punk parents who put you onto the music they used to listen to, which caused you to keep up with the bands so closely that you're able to post their names in a thread on Sup Forums instead of naming the punk bands that they were all a part of
you've been called a hipster and agreed, which is exactly the opposite of what a true hipster would do. now that you are aware of this fact, the next time someone calls you a hipster you will deflect and say no I'm not and then stop there because you have no idea about post-modernism, post-irony, and new-sincerity

(You)
this entire thread is me samefagging
Art is, by definition, useless
Philosophy has a purpose, whether it is to "find an absolute truth" like some have tried to, or to simply become less ignorant about everything
Schopenhauer has written about art, specially about music
Philosophy wasn't anywhere in his works on art
Not only you haven't read Schopenhauer, but you also try to prove a point that contradicts itself
Not even OP but my verdict is: you like to sound superior to others and brag a lot, but you're afraid of being confronted by someone who has actually read the books you claim to have read, your knowledge about arts is frivolous, and you're so insecure and illiterate about art you feel the need to insert Schopenhauer's name as a validation when asked about 3 artists you like, because the stuff you're really into are not "impressive" (and your measure for success is how much you can impress people around you)
Van gogh
Arnold Schwarzenegger
Twisted Insane
Yoko Taro
Igorrr
King Crimson
(You)
I wouldn't claim "Art is useless". In fact, I believe "Art for art's sake" is just bullshit. There's always a reason behind our behaviour (I'm not talking about purpouse). Maybe you feel great about doing something on your own, maybe is the picture you're drawing that inspires you some feeling, etc.
Art is a projection of our value-system. And when we observe art, its "values" (goal, ideology, etc) are confronted with ours. Maybe is "freedom", "madness", or whatever that appeal us. But there are several experiences that come through observing art. We can analyse ourselves through our reactions.
Art is not useless.
You have written "Jorge Luis Borges" and your reading skills are just shameful.
What the fuck didn't you understand about *3 artists*?
Are you trying to impress someone? None gives a fuck about you.
Sure you can experience art in many ways and interpret it and convey points of view or whatever you like
But art IS, by definition, useless
It doesn't accomplish to anything
When I say it's useless, I'm not saying it's shit
It's useless in the sense that it serves no other purpose than simply existing
The process of making art can have effects on you, on the observer/listener/interpreter in any way, but the art itself, that piece, serves nothing more outside the realms of art
And it shouldn't, or else it would be a tool to accomplish something
Art is useless. Doesn't mean it's not the most important and sublime thing we have
To put it simply:
You don't make art in order to get somewhere
You make art just to make art
It is its final purpose in itself
Sure you can paint a landscape because you like it, and you want to immortalize that moment, and show other people your view on that particular landscape at that time etc.
But it's not something that will be put to use in order to get you something else
Get it?

I get your point, but I don't agree. As I said before, there are reasons behind our behaviour. We don't make art just to make art. We don't do "Art for art's sake".
Everyone has its own reasons. And maybe they even know it. But some search recognition, others the feeling of the "sublime", to test themselves, etc etc etc.
To put it simply:
You never make something just to make something. Maybe you're bored or whatever.
Some great artist wanted to approach their idea of "the sublime", etc.
You're mistaking the Process of making art and the uses of the object of art for the art itself
Study more (not even trolling here, you sound young and curious, go learn more, that can only help you)
I have thought about it again and I have to agree with you.
Creating art is not a mean to and end, its the end itself. The act of creating it can have a source or whatever, but the object of art has no defined "rol", it is just open to interpretation.
Btw, I'm curious. How old do you think I am and how old are you? (I don't expect you to answer the second one).
I have to say aesthetics is not my forte, as you have noticed.
