Country Chart

Let's make a Sup Forums approved country chart.
I started it off with some albums I see posted around.

what kind of a chart? the genre's big and getting bigger every day.

Not the op, but what about an Alt-country chart

David Allan Coe - The Mysterious Rhinestone Cowboy

that would depend on your definition of alt country. not trying to be a dick here. at this point, i'd consider it a small miracle if Sup Forums could handle one successful country thread.

that said i keep hearing about a little album by waylon jennings himself called white mansions that might qualify as the first alt country album. haven't heard it myself tho.

...

Old Boots New Dirt unironically

Yes, country is a huge genre, but I was originally thinking we could accumulate the best it has to offer, just as a sort of counter to the stigma that all country is total garbage.

so a great country albums of all time chart then.
that would be nice.
an intro to country chart for the uninitiated chart would be nice as well.
the trad fags could make a traditional country chart.
i've been wanting to do a thread of albums by women in country but i doubt it'll get any traction here.
good luck getting Sup Forums's small number of country fans to help out tho.
the last time i tried a country thread i was the sole poster.

Gillian Welch - Time (The Revelator)

Lucinda Williams - Car Wheels on a Gravel Road

Bill Callahan - Apocaplyse

I prefer this one

Also included Jerry Garcia and David Grisman -Shady Grove because im listening to it right now and think it's great.

Add OBND. Its a good country album aside from the memes

Since albums weren't really a thing when he was around this is the best thing to put on there

What do you guys think about this one?

idk... is it really country? how does one even define country. Serious question. Is it literally just instruments + vocal stlye

The Good Ol' South - Johnny Rebel

I don't really have an answer for that. I'm having the same doubts, but I tend not to care about genre classifications that much.
Also don't you think that the tone of this album really fits this chart?

it's cowpunk man

it's psychedelic cowpunk
it's an amazing album

Yeah, but isn't cowpunk just a crossover between punk and country?

Not sure but I really like this thank you.

...

Glad you like it.
Smog is really just Bill Callahan, and he has a pretty diverse discography, so if you have the time I strongly recommend checking out his other albums.
I'm madly in love with Dongs of Sevotion right now

and wouldn't Songs: Ohia just be indie rock with a country sound? Whats the difference between a genre with country influences and actual country. Isn't actual country just folk music with an accent? I feel like country isn't even a genre, just certain instruments and vocal styles applied to other genres

...

Can't say for sure. I usually don't like playing the 'feel' card, but I think it has to do with the sadness that country music is so good at delivering.
Also here's another album that might or might not be country

Also this
"Whereas folk employed an often strident satire in resisting perceived oppressors, country looked inwards, using self-deprecating and personalized humor as a shield and relief against outside forces"
kuscholarworks.ku.edu/handle/1808/16414
Found this a while back and remembered that quote. Thought it might be relevant.

Duh

The first angel Olsen full length is pretty great

Speedy West - Steel Guitar

Uncle Tupelo - Anodyne

Lee Hazlewood - Trouble Is a Lonesome Town
Skeeter Davis - Skeeter Davis Sings The End of the World
Willie Nelson - Red Headed Stranger
The Flying Burrito Brothers - Gilded Palace of Sin
Dolly Parton - Coat of Many Colors
Bob Dylan - Nashville Skyline
The Byrds - Sweetheart of the Rodeo

Arthur Miles - Lonely Cowboy

i don't know about that, but i guess you can't escape this album on Sup Forums so i'll put it in there.
Love this album, never really thought of it as country, but there definitely is some twang in there.

folsom

Sup Forumsedgelord, reporting in.

It's actually quite enjoyable desu.

One of Johnny Cash's American albums needs to be on here, II or IV

How much altfolk/alcountry hybrids should be allowed on chart? Also pic related is pretty recent.
