ST. LOUIS • A woman was grazed in the arm by a stray bullet during Tuesday night's Cardinals game inside Busch Stadium.
Police sources say there had been a call for shots fired near the 14th Street and Chouteau Avenue area moments before the woman was struck, and that the bullet may have come from someone shooting into the air.
That intersection is less than a mile from Busch.
St. Louis police said the 34-year-old woman was sitting in her seat in section 141 at about 9:40 p.m. when she felt pain to her arm. She removed her jacket and noticed a small abrasion to her elbow. She went to the first aid station, and workers there contacted an off-duty police officer working a secondary security job there, police said.
The victim could not be reached for comment. Her mother told the Post-Dispatch that the victim had retained an attorney and they had been advised not to speak to the media.
Todd Porter, 54, of O'Fallon, Ill., was at the game with his 13-year-old son, Christopher, and was seated directly in front of the victim. She suddenly said, "Wow, I think I've been shot," just as the eighth inning was coming to a close, Porter said.
Is it normal for Americans to react this casually when they get shot?
I mean, one would expect her to be a little more shocked or something.

Maybe in shit Louis

She isn't a soccer player

depending on where you live, no
Leo Sanchez
The wound wasn't described as anything close to serious, so the casual response seems expected. if anything she's shocked that it was from a bullet.
Joseph Kelly
I think she was suprised that a boreball gaem can be exciting.

>Is it normal for Americans to react this casually when they get shot?
No. But St. Louis is one of the most dangerous cities in entire US, it's South America-tier when it comes to its murder rate. Things are different there.
Also, you know people often go into shock in traumatic situations. The pain/danger isn't always immediately apparent to them.

St. Louis is one of our objectively worst cities. I really can't stress this enough. It used to be a relatively decent place, but it went downhill hard in the 60s. It's one of the most dangerous and poorest major cities in the entire United States. The only major cities that are worse are Detroit and New Orleans.
Also, in general western cities tend to look strange because they grew much faster than anybody was able to handle. St. Louis is just a particularly bad example. Although they do have great bbq and history.
Caleb Howard
This is mostly bullshit based on the fact that statistics are merged from the county with the city. The actual city itself, where I live in the Shaw neighborhood (mostly whites) is really safe. It is North county and the nigs there that make us look bad.
Jonathan King
If you aren't expecting it. The first reaction was "what the hell was that". Also, I doubt the bullet was traveling as fast, it probably slowed down through the air, it was fairly far away for what was probably a hand gun.
Juan Stewart
I like St Louis (Cardinals fan) but it's ghetto as fuck.
We stayed at the Magnolia Hotel last time i was out there for a series, woke up Sunday morning to find 5 people got shot (3 deaths) within 2 mile radius of or hotel.
The area we were just casually bar hopping in.
Henry Adams
the bullet came from south of busch stadium though

Shock can be weird. I was riding my bike in college and nearly got killed by an out of control truck, I saw its reflection and jumped over the hood of a parked car while it wrecked my bike.
Bystanders helped me, gave statement to the cops, whole time I'm laughing nerviously and talking to theme about how lucky I am. Fifty minutes later I start to walk away and I trip over my feet and I can't get up. That was when I realized jesus christ I almost just died and I'm just sweating into my clothes even though it's fortyfive degrees out at night.

Not you fuckers no why I roll to Guaranteed Rate or Busch III heavy or I don't roll at all.

I usually stay at the Holiday Inn that's a block or two west of old city hall rather than the one right next to the park, bit farther of a walk to Ballpark Village but you get nicer rooms for lower rates. I've never had any issues even when walking hope drunk from the bars at 3am.
Blake Lopez
not Holiday, I meant Hilton. It's pretty weird they have two huge Hiltons like 4 blocks apart in not a very large city.
Nicholas Turner

I got jumped out in front of that hotel during Mardi Gras in like 09 or 2010. Thankfully, the giant black dude security guard saved my ass. 3 on 1 isn't fun.
I liked the Magnolia, it was maybe a 3 block walk to Ballpark Village and the 3rd base intro to Busch.
I remember walking to Lumiere casino the friday night we were there and it was sketchy as fuck. We cabbed it the half mile ride home. Cabbie was like "the fuck you cabing for?" lel

They had great security and a nice parking garage when i was there last year. I'll be there this month when the Cards play Boston. I love Ballpark Village man. They were giving my 6$ double shot John Dalys for 3 nights in a row. I definitely tipped well, because I know that should a much more expensive.
My dad bought it for me, not gonna complain about a free SUV

Street view confirms that there is literally a public housing area for nogs on St. Ange and 14th which is about right where the bullet came from. Not surprising at all desu. I went to uni at Washington University in St. Louis and if I walked 5 blocks north in the wrong direction I would have probably been crucified just for being white.
Joshua Anderson
During WWII there was huge demand for labor in northern cities where industy was located. Combine that with Jim Crow laws in the South, and it enticed huge numbers of rural Southern black people to move into the center of Northern cities. You'll notice that black ghetto talk sounds similar to a Southern accent. Anyways, these people didn't fit in and got segregated into ghettos, and they never moved out to suburbs like white people did in the 60s and 70s, which left the near-downtown neighborhoods of most Northern cities majority-black and poor.

>The victim could not be reached for comment. Her mother told the Post-Dispatch that the victim had retained an attorney and they had been advised not to speak to the media >retained an attorney why? she plans to sue? if so, whom? you can't fault the cardinals for this, literally just a freak stray bullet.

What is the safest big city in the US?
Big city = More than 500,000 inhabitants

probably honolulu

Sure she can. Could well say stadium owners were negligent in not making a more bullet-resistant design. She might not win, but it's not completely implausible, and they'll just settle anyways.

Discarded.
Also, let's keep it to non-meme mainland America (meaning also no Alaska)

People there get shot all the time so it's nothing out of the ordinary.

They're all pretty much safe if you stay away from the hoods/tourist traps. Most of the violence everywhere is gang/gang drug/drug.
Wyatt Nelson
Also, why the fuck do American cities have parking lots that stretch out over multiple blocks? Are there rules against multi-storey ones?
Wyatt Green
NYC's pretty safe.
Jackson Garcia
A lot of times the giant downtown lots are just waiting for something to be developed on them. Parking is just interim until the city/owner does something with the land.
Cooper King
San Diego I think
Lincoln Garcia
Multi-storey parking lots are used for secret meetings between criminals and shady people, don't you watch any American movies?
Robert Ortiz
Just googled it, apparently it's San Jose, California by violent crime rate per 100,000 people
1. San Jose, CA (329.6) 2. El Paso, TX (366.6) 3. Austin, TX (372.5) 4. San Diego, CA (398.6) 5. Portland, OR (472.8)
The most violent big US cities:
1. St. Louis, MO (1817.1) 2. Detroit, MI (1759.6) 3. Memphis, TN (1740.1) 4. Milwaukee, WI (1596.1) 5. Baltimore, MD (1535.9)
The differences between the cities are astounding desu
You are close to 6 times more likely to fall victim to a violent crime in St. Louis than in San Jose....
Bentley Hernandez
Huh. Go figure! I live in Palo Alto (like 20 minutes from San Jose). It always struck me as a shithole, but I guess that shows what I know.
Brandon Howard
>The victim could not be reached for comment. Her mother told the Post-Dispatch that the victim had retained an attorney and they had been advised not to speak to the media.
Don't tell me she's going to sue the stadium. Jesus. As if they could have done anything to protect her.

Had this happen to me with an umbrella almost impaling me in the eye. I barely managed to lower my head and have the brim of my hat save me. For the next 10 minutes I was laughing nervously and hell even helping the people whose umbrella it was. Then I suddenly just collapsed and realized how lucky I was.
Landon Jones
lol. I'm from Cleveland and it's depressing how much parking there is near our downtown stadiums. I think it's because both the industry and people moved away so there's little commercial value in some of these places. Like a factory will close, get torn down, and parking replaces it. No one lives near enough to downtown for anything else to make money, because all the near suburbs are full of ghettos with the black people that used to work at the factories. Also if the land was useful, it wouldn't have been available for building a stadium.
Sebastian Young
How the fuck is El Paso on this list? That is one of the worst cities I have ever been to and its right across from fucking Ciudad Juarez which was literally the murder and kidnapping capital of the world at one point.
Owen Barnes
were you on Laclede's Landing? If so, never go back there unless you want to get shot or stabbed. go to soulard, much better food, bars, and safety only about a mile down the road
