Why did people freak out about this completely insignificant character?
Is it because tumblr saw themselves in her?

To be fair, her death was pretty horrific.
she wasn't ugly, she just dressed like a retarded 80s nerd.
I liked her big ass.

she was the voice of reason and she died because Nancy was a thirsty cunt and a bad friend
It was because the main cast remained intact except for the bad guys and she's like the only one who dies.
Not to mention it's fine that she died early on but bullshit that the boy not only escaped the creature but survived for a week in that place.
damn did viper survive that heart attack? nigga lookin good
Winona Ryder was a tweaky paranoid wreck of a woman. It's only natural she freak out and rile up the town into a panic.
Meanwhile Barb's mom just seemed kind of concerned and wasn't freaking out riling the town up into a frenzy. Also Barb's older and her mom's more likely to just assume she's being a teenager.
She inspired pity. Bad clothes, big glasses, ugly hair, no1 curr if she exists.
It's perhaps because finally, after well over a decade of eighties nostalgia, something with an eighties setting featured a character who looked like a normal person from the eighties.
It's hilarious how nobody except the skeleton girl gave a fuck about her.
>big ass
pics?!
Get a load this apologist fuck tard.
I hope you're at least getting paid for shilling.
That guy has good logic though, Barb could just run away doing edgy emo teenager shit, but Winona's kid was like 10.
I think it's because they casted someone who looks like a chubby molly ringwald

painfully true
Correct me if I'm wrong, the only acknowledgment of her horrific, lonely death in an alternate hell dimension was a camera pan to a brief look of sadness. That was pretty ridiculous.
she exists for the sole purpose of establishing that the monster is lethally dangerous(necessary because it wont be killing any other non-villain characters). focusing too much on her death beyond that purpose would derail the show from its careful balancing act of being simultaneously comfy and suspenseful. remember, like most shows, this is mostly marketed to women and too many negative vibes will sour the female audience on the show. in this case, avoiding the negative vibes backfired because a loud group of tumblrites identified with the character whose death was glibly glossed over, but even so it was the logical route to take froma writer's POV
Top kek this..... exactly this.....omg barbs dead..... literally 2 seconds later everyone is like ok that's fine. That's what everyone had a problem with. Should have at least somehow brought the body back for mourning or something
there is no big ass you dumb cunt
I'm racist as fuck and this made me laugh.

Yes that's all it was. All the Barbara fan art and memes came from Tumblr.
>set up character as nancy's best and oldest friend
>when barb goes missing, it shows that nancy is incredibly worried
>create an arc where she feels responsible for her disappearance and she would never forgive herself if anything happened
>her whole mostivation for being part of the story is because of this
>second to last episode
>"is barb alive?"
>"no"
>"damn"
>no closure, nothing in the denouement, completely swept aside
The reason people are freaking out is because there was clearly a mistake on the part of the writers.
Its obvious that midway through the production, they realized that there were too many story threads going on, so they swept the whole barb thing aside as quickly and clumsily as possible.
It's fucking lazy. It sours the whole experience because there is a huge hole in the story that the writers hoped you wouldn't notice.
In the context of the story, its almost hilarious how coldly they dismiss this character. But thats the problem. Its so unrealistic it takes you out of the story.
