/daily/ - Nobody's Posting / Nobodies Posting edition

The point of these threads is to encourage people to look for new and interesting music. We do this by listening to and ideally discussing albums we've never heard before. Many of us already listen to new music daily, these people are in it to venture "out of their comfort zone" by listening to albums they otherwise wouldn't have, or just to have a good time.

YTPs are the most patrician form of art, it is no surprise an embryo such as yourself cannot get into them.

Thigpen? I swear that guy has it out for me...

I'm simultaneously out for you and Jangle at the same time, nerds

How is everyone enjoying the new Hopsin single?

I just listened to it

fuck you

doing god's work

Is he called Hopsin because he commits "[hip] hop sins" or because he "hops in"?

Holy shit just listened to it too. This is definitely one of the worst hooks I have ever heard, and that's not even when considering the exploitive point of the song, the orientalism, and (of course, we're talking Hopsin) sexism

Unfortunately, I did.

It baffles me that people think he's an intelligent rapper.

LETOV VS DENJI

>Slowdive - Pygmalion
>Shoegaze, Ambient Pop
I think this album fits the group's targeted ideals much more than Souvlaki. It's less substantial, but the simplistic beauty of Crazy for you and Blue Skied almost makes this an 8/10, though I'll have to relisten to it a bit. Great to see them go in a darker direction after their most well known release.

7+/10

>Kate Bush - Hounds of Love
>Synthpop
Liveliness and nocturnal atmospheres are always an easy way to pull anyone into an album. Combined with the narrative built here, Bush manages to turn the kitschy sound of the 80's pop on its end... somewhat. It's definitely still there with the synth usages, and even in the orchestral choices Only the title track and the first track really grabbed me, I found the later parts of the album, while consistent, of middling appeal.

Great stuff, but I prefer Slowdive's tranquility.

7/10

GFR VS JANGLE

>James Ferraro - iAsia
>Hypnagogic Pop
Shockingly lo-fi, but James nails the post-internet vibe so well, before any of the bigger albums of the Pacific City Sound Visions label. The popping and clipping actually takes me out of this, simply for reminding me that I'm NOT listening to a recovered tape from the future-- just something whipped up in whatever DAW Ferraro uses. Which sucks, because there's some real great moments on here, compiled from who knows where Ferraro finds his sounds. At least it gets less frequent over time.

I just realized that this kind of sound is what I want Torn Hawk to be like, rather than hi-fi.

7-/10

>Eugene Chadbourne - Volume 3: Guitar Trios
>Improv

The Life and Special Moments of Acoustic Farm Animals and Their Owners.

I think the final track managed to be the most evocative, compared to the hampered interactions of the second and minimalism of the first. An awkwardly balanced album, but not a bad listen.

6+/10

かえる目 [Kaeru-moku] - 拝借 (Haisyaku) (2011)
>chamber folk, avant-folk

So, so, SO cute. This is easily one of the most delicate, drifting folk albums I've ever heard. Every instrument sounds like a pristine, dusty music box, and the vocals are among the most comforting I've ever heard in music. It's light on substance, mainly due to the overbearing tweeness of it, but it's heavy on heart and comfort. I always love how folk done by experimental musicians is always so simple and beautiful.

3.0+

Alfio Antico - Antico (2016)
>avant-folk

Wacked-out, percussive, tribal folk. Comparisons to Tom Waits and later Scott Walker are certainly deserved, this shares the idiosyncratic, dark sound of the two musical iconoclasts, while bringing in its own unique sense of mysticism. It's rooted in the free/freak folk of artists such Pelt and Scatter, bringing in its own unique brand of Italian folk music to keep everything interesting and fresh. A tad overdone and over-dramatic in the same way Walker can be sometimes, otherwise very good.

3.0-

Wiener Philharmoniker et al. performing Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart - Requiem (1987)
>choral, classical period, christian liturgical music

Absolutely pitch-perfect performance. The chorus here is transcendental, they possess so much power without ever seeming overdone, they can reign in it to more subtle levels perfectly. Mozart's never really been one of my favorites, though. The piece drags a bit towards the middle, but the beginning and end here is absolutely wonderful. I can't review classical, or really appreciate it the same way a lot of people can, so I'll just say that I like this.

3.0+

Cattle Decapitation - Monolith of Inhumanity (2012)
>deathgrind

I don't know, the melodic bits seem cheesy and completely devoid of emotion. The deathgrind is slamming and fun to listen to, a bit hollow but it accomplishes what it sets out to do, and the instrumental performances are all great. Really can't get behind the melodic bits, though.

2.0+

What are some good albums that came out this month?

fellas i fucking love weeb music

youtube.com/watch?v=GfBYPkoxDrA

George Gershwin (Conducted By Leonard Bernstein) - Rhapsody in Blue; An American in Paris (1959)
>Classical, Jazz?
Two of the most quotable pieces in the entire history of American music on one record. Even those who don't know George Gershwin by name could recognize parts from both "Rhapsody in Blue" and "An American in Paris" due in no small part to how connected they have become to American culture.
Gershwin easily combines grandiose themes with the more subdued piano solo on "Rhapsody in Blue." That piece in general is quickly becoming one of my favorites, the variety is astounding. Been listening to it almost every day recently.
"An American In Paris" I don't like as much. The theme isn't that good and it just falls flat for me.
4.0-

Hank Williams - 40 Greatest Hits (1978)
>Country
Embodies the spirit of classic country. Just about two hours of bluesy wailing with the sound palette that defines the genre -- fiddle, pedalsteel guitar, and steel string guitar are all there.
Williams pours out the blues with his yodely vocals that have fallen out of favor in modern country.
All that said, for the love of god don't listen to this in one sitting. It's over an hour and a half of pretty much the same song repeatedly.

Because he plays hip hop, and he sins. A sort of Ghetto Brothers Everyman.

people make fun of indie college kids (rightfully) but there's like none at mine and I wish I knew more. everyone here is just into reddit and blue lives matter lmao

what college are you at? My uni has pretty much every demographic possible desu

it's a stem-based state college in a flyover state, so I guess that's what I get. I've only been here for a month and a half, but nearly all the people I'm friends with are graduating early or are upperclassmen. If I could get some non-redditors in my life that would be swell.

>making friends at school
I'm in first-year and honestly I've been so swamped that I haven't really had time for a social life. I think STEM in general tends to have a lot of redditors, though.

you're just SOOO smart for being above it all huh?

Yes.

sorry I'm not a redditor? I don't know what to say man.

I feel that too. I probably have to spend 5-10 hours a week on my second year computer science projects.

And I expect to see massive glowy alienware laptops in my Comp Sci classes, but everywhere I go I feel isolated, and much more than every college town I've been to/the other colleges I've attended (one last year, and a community college for some gen eds) were much more tolerable.

no I mean you feel like you're so much better than people who support blue lives matter?

Yes. Because I am.

Kill all cops.

Fuck you.

Alienware laptops are fucking unsightly, man. Imo if you're gonna get a laptop that looks like ass, at least get one that's cheap because it looks like ass. Of all people, the compsci kids should know better.

I guess I should probably feel lonely by now but I've been kept busy so I don't really think about it. Luckily as a music student, your group is small enough that you know people from having so many overlapping classes, regardless of whether you actually really make an effort to socialize. It's probably a little more difficult in a STEM where you have big lectures and shit

B^{}

lol

>Of all people, the compsci kids should know better
granted, most of these people honk their toad to overwatch porn and just chose this major because they like video games, then just switch to history or something when they find out how much math you have to use

music classes sound tight, but I'm getting gen eds out of the way rn. I plan on minoring in music technology since it has so many overlapping classes with my major so /maybe/ I'll meet some cool people in that.

>most of these people honk their toad to overwatch porn
STEM in a nutshell

not wrong ;)

True, game programming is one of the most tedious and unrecognized parts of the whole process too, you'd think that these vidya fanatics would want to do visual design for games or something, but I guess you actually need to show some skill upfront to do that

Music is alright, the first-year courses are super tedious (endless solfege), but the ensemble stuff (orchestra rehearsals, chamber music groups) makes it a little more bearable. Next semester I've got a mandatory music technology course which I'm hyped for, I assume it'll be a breeze since everyone here is a classical musician with no experience using a DAW or anything audio related at all

what college tho

listened to this the other day and was honestly surprised by the v i b e s

"fuck these people bc they browse a different internet site than I do"

is this selib

Feels good doing compsci knowing I want to program and do math

It's true tho I see lots of Asians playing league in lecture

Hej my guys I have a question for the lot of you: how to not get mad at your s/o for stupid reasons and how to stop thinking about past fights and also how to know if it'll be worth it to stick it out with someone in the end

How is their taste in music

Titus andronicus the monitor

>how to not get mad at your s/o for stupid reasons
Be fulfilled in your own life. You get mad at others for reasons you know are stupid because you're just redirecting frustrations over things that have nothing to do with them onto them.
>how to stop thinking about past fights
Same solution. If you're happy with your self and your own life independent of your relationship then there's no reason to be petty about your relationship.
>how to know if it'll be worth it to stick it out with someone in the end
Same solution again really. If you find fulfillment in your own life independent of your relationship then you can more objectively evaluate why you're in the relationship, what draws you to the other person, etc., without co-dependent weird stuff muddying up your mind. The question then is just "do I like being with this person?" and obvious questions like "do this persons core values align with mine", "can I do the major relationship/life stuff I want to do with this person (have a kid, not have a kid, etc.)

My two cents.

And since no one replied to my thread. Discuss pic related. Any similar recs would be appreciated.

first: i had nothing else to do that evening
second: because i have more than one rating per number

this is so fucking true, i hate compsci people goddamn
although i've found there's always at least 3 good people out of 60 or sth and i have managed to find very good friends, just stay away from the rest as soon as you've found them

i'm kind of the other way around though so i dunno
you switched to be closer to home right? worth it in the end?
