I think Congress has to approve it

Yes. Lots of lobbying to keep it in place.

“Could”

Exactly, retard. Why give them that power?

It’s all just hyped up BS, everything has been fine before 2015.

This.

Reddit fear mongering.

"But neutrality is good, i dont need to check the facts"

Jesus Christ. You retards are just that: retards.

I could go on a rant to explain everything, but there's no point. I'm fucking drained of the energy for that.

I wish you and your families dark, saddening events within the coming days.

Lol bye

Actually please do. I'd like to hear as much as possible about this. I'm so underwhelmed with the amount of actual information as to why exactly this has happened.

this

> implying a billion dollar corporation could have any motivation besides making more money
> implying there's any chance what-so-ever that they wouldn't use the shittiest and most ruthless techniques they can legally get away with in the interest of making it easier to do so

No it wasn't

No it isn't

huffingtonpost.com/timothy-karr/net-blocking-a-problem-in_b_5695997.html

Here is a short list of incidents which violated the principles of NN. If you are not a fan of huff, there is external link in every case.

To keep the abolition in place?

>why exactly this has happened
trump and his band of corrupt scumbags put in place an fcc chair that has been doing secret negotiations with major telecommunications companies so they can apply billing and rate limits to internet content. the US government wants to turn the internet into a basic cable service because the 'traditional media' (cable companies, sat tv providers) are BLEEDING money and users going elsewhere.

here's a full rundown of the issue, ignore the reddit-humor in the post.

>huffington post
my sides

...

Leave it to trump to capitalize on the idea of caging information

I mean fuck we've all thought it, but I figure not even the shittiest person in the world would have actually gone through with it. And then our friendly neighborhood billionaire bigot too the reigns

Every incident has external sources and link to those sources as I told you. I don't give a shit what huff's stand on this is, and I skipped all the article content because that wasn't interesting.

Wow, I'm the guy in the brown...
That aside, I could live with it. What I can't live with is the providers of my content being limited or censored because they don't have the money for their megaphone

the us government is heading down the same path of china. wouldn't shock me if they tried to pull the same censorship stunt they do also. the great firewall of USA coming soon? not a surprise.

I seriously can't get into big discussion. I'm fucking sick of the NN talk, especially when majority of the US is fucking retarded.

>"Obama error"(2015) NN was put in place to protect NN because corps were fucking around
>Obama didn't invent NN, and it's always existed, it was the way the internet was supposed to fucking work(how the creators imagined it to be, their words. it's funny, they gave their creation away for free, yet here we are.)

Basically this. NN protects the web. It allows you to fire up pornhub, check out facebook, come on Sup Forums, all within a matter of 10 minutes. Without it, corporations are free to block your access to those sites, or throttle them, so it'd take forever to load. Of course, the above sites are able to afford the hefty bills ISPs would charge them, so they may not be slowed, but you'd still need to pay to access them.

>"they wont do it, it would destroy their business"
Look at cellphone plans. What's stopping them from doing it? Absolutely nothing. They would. No one would do shit.

>"just get a new ISP"
There are 4 major ISPs in the US. They make it extremely difficult for competition to arise, going as far as to file lawsuits. Think Mansanto level shit, suing local farmers for accidentally using one of their seeds.

NN is good. Anyone who says it's not seriously doesn't understand how it works. I work at an ISP, I'm a systems engineer. I'm far more educated on it than some NEETs on Sup Forums that are going to reply with some "reddit"-tier arguments. Fuck ye.

>Have there been any notable events regarding net neutrality since the vote?
They're not required to tell us anymore. Its entirely in the hands of the providers

Well, they are creating the ancap utopia over there...

Actually, if an ISP blocks websites for a competitive edge they would potentially be prone to being sued up the ass for it.

potentially... imagine someone winning a lawsuit against monsanto though

why do you think they put the effort into making, drafting, and enforcing net neutrality in the first place?
hint: because the "shit that never happened" was happening.

"But neutrality is bad, i dont need to check the facts"

They've done it before.
Take away NN altogether, and it becomes legal for them to do so(like it was pre-2015).

For starters, ISPs don't need to block them, you can just throttle it to the ground. "Competitors" are operating on your infrastructure so, without common carrier regulations you can do what ever the fuck you want.

Potentially. But we're also moving towards this trend that ISPs can govern themselves as they see fit. There is no enforcement of neutrality across the board anymore.

Also what if I don't block it, just throttle it? This was a key issue, that the FCC frankly doesnt seem to give a shit about.

It hasn't gone into effect yet.

Not even opening this thread, just gonna leave this here for the dumb fucks. pic related

OP here, does anyone here have an argument in favor of the abolition of net neutrality? So far all I've seen anywhere is people saying it isn't so bad.

Can we flip things around and can someone ANTI-Net Neutrality explain why getting rid of it is a good thing?

Legally, during NN, internet companies HAD to give you everything at the same speed. Now they can slow things down as they desire for money or any reason they want.
As a consumer, what POSSIBLE advantage do I gain that I would want that?

They'll tell it "allows free market", which is a lie. They'll also say "government regulation on the internet is bad!", which I'd agree, if it was in a different scenario. The government telling ISPs they can't block/throttle websites is a good thing, that's all it is.

Woah

this. anyone who says that another isp will pop up and offer lower prices? they rent the infrastructure from one of the big 4. the renter starts undercutting them? whhhhooooopppssiedaisy the rent on that stuff your renting, lmao, just went up the same price your undercutting them by, what a coincidence.
>but that would be illega-
in the contract. you dont become one of the biggest ISP`s in america and forgot the concept of "hire a lawyer to make your contract"

Right yeah I get the free market deal, but it's not really a free market if its ruled by a monopoly, or an oligarchy.

those things they were obligated to give to you as fast as they could to begin with?
youll get them even faster...then they could of given it to you...according to these people. because fucking magic

You're a fucking idiot. Ajit was put in by Obama. If you think more regulation will lead to less censorship it's befitting you can't even get basic facts correct.

I don't need it faster. I'm happy with my service! All I could ask is for a 15% cheaper price, and it'd be perfect. And that says a lot coming from someone like me. I'm the kind of guy who things everything ever should literally be 1/10 the price its set at

>youll get them even faster...then they could of given it to you...according to these people. because fucking magic

I mean, that's at least kinda a fair point. Saying we'll give you Netflix faster because we will throttle your neighbours porn torrents.
But it also means they'll throttle MY porn torrents. So fuck that.

>Ajit was put in by Obama.
Trump made him the fucking top guy, though, retard.

#rekt by trips

Apparently they could "lower prices" for certain specific customers who operate only on youtube and vidyagaems because only a basic package and videogames would be enough to sate your needs. Which is sorta insane when you are already paying shitton more of your internet compared to any shithole in europe and we have common carrier regulations in place.

itll never happen. only 13% of americans dont use the internet...and by sheer coincidence, 13% of the population is over 65 years old.

why the fuck would you lower prices on something everyone ALREADY pays you full price for? so that the people who still write letters and read newspapers suddenly decide the price point is just right and get it?

you are king of the fucking morons. just fucking kill yourself already.

It was semi sarcastic, I'm all favour for the NN.

As far as I remember, it was for a custom packet deal where the customer would only play online videogames and most of the www was throttled hard except youtube and spotify. Aka ISPs want to split your internet into neat little chunks and sell them back to you, sounds cool and nice USA?

i actually have had correspondence with my congressman regarding this issue. if none of you have, you don't get to say shit one way or another. so shut up, don't vote, just kick garbage cans and cry in your fruit loops, fruit loops.
