Why do people pretend to not like Wes Anderson?

Why do people pretend to not like Wes Anderson?

they're intimidated by his hipster sensibilities

Manneristic.

People think he makes some of the best films ever made and because they're quirky idiots encourage themselves to like them even more than usual.

Darjeeling Ltd is a very good film though.

I think the people who dislike his films simply haven't bothered to actually watch them because they are put off by the hipsters and tumblrinas who obsess over them.

His earlier films, specifically Rushmore, Royal Tenenbaums, and Life Aquatic, are almost flawless pieces of cinema, though they're rarely praised for the artistry, depth, or writing but rather their "quirkyness" by these hipsters. It's understandable that people "pretend to not like Wes Anderson".

I bet you enjoy the films of Wes Anderson

Grand Budapest Hotel is god-tier.

The rest are utter shit, especially steve zisspoo

Because they're a popular safe pick for when you want to look like you're cultured.

But the issue there is that doesn't in any way diminish the quality of his work and the fact that his movies are better than 90% of what comes out.

I hate his movies. Wes Anderson isn't human and can't properly portrait human characters in his films.

Case in point.

babbys first anderson movie eh?, seriously it isn't that good =)

I've noticed a strong divide between people who like wes anderson's work pre-fantastic fox and those that like his more recent stuff.

So wait, what you are saying is people pretend to not like wes anderson movies because they are a safe pick for when you want to appear cultured?

Because people are afraid of their feelings

Probably his only good film, and he didn't write it.

>he didn't write it.
If you are referring to the fact that it is based on a book you should know that the film deviates quite considerably from the material. The film is less about a fox and his shenanigans as it is a story about a dysfunctional family (much like most of wes anderson's films). Besides something like 90% of the dialogue is unique to the film. Did you even see it?

Fox and Hotel are best movies of the decade.
His older work is neat to good depending on the film. I don't get "hipsterism" in his work but then again I'm not sick with being an American.

I never understood why so many people now absolutely love Fox or Grand Budapest Hotel, but dislike his older work, and this post here just adds to that trend that i've noticed.

There are essentially two wes anderson fans. Those that have been around and been delighted and amazed with every film he puts out, and those that jumped in with Fantastic Fox, Moonrise Kingdom or Grand Budapest Hotel, who most likely didn't get to experience the older works beforehand. So for some reason when they go back to watch those films they don't find them so impressive.

I feel the opposite. For me Grand Budapest Hotel wasn't impressive at all. It's a good film, and better in many ways than Moonrise Kingdom and Fantastic Mr. Fox, but I wouldn't even consider it one of the best films of the decade or one of the best wes anderson films. It's a bland film that is actually quite empty once you peel off all the layers of style that have been baked in under the guise of "auteurism". Something somewhere has been lost. It used to be that wes would just make interesting movies in his quirky manner and style, now he's simply using his quirky style to make movies, if that makes any sense.

I don't understand either. The first Anderson movie I saw was MK, and going back and watching the rest of his stuff was of the same level of quality.

FOR THE SAME REASON THAT THEY PRETEND TO DISLIKE "APPLE" PRODUCTS; FOR THE SAME REASON THAT THEY PRETEND TO DETEST VEGANISM, AND VEGANS; FOR THE SAME REASON THAT THEY PRETEND TO DISLIKE "TUMBLR"; FOR THE SAME REASON THAT THEY PRETEND TO DISLIKE "VAPORWAVE" MUSIC; FOR THE SAME REASON THAT THEY PRETEND TO DISLIKE L O S T; FOR THE SAME REASON THAT THEY PRETEND TO DISLIKE THE "MYERS BRIGGS TYPE INDICATOR" PERSONALITY MODEL; FOR THE SAME REASON THAT THEY PRETEND TO DISLIKE ASTROLOGY; FOR THE SAME REASON THAT THEY PRETEND TO DISLIKE "TRIPCODE" USERS; FOR THE SAME REASON THAT THEY PRETEND TO DISLIKE SOCIAL ACTIVISM; FOR THE SAME REASON THAT THEY PRETEND TO DISLIKE CATS; FOR THE SAME REASON THAT THEY PRETEND TO DETEST CHILDREN, AND ANYTHING CHILDISH; FOR THE SAME REASON THAT THEY PRETEND TO DETEST PHILOSOPHY; FOR THE SAME REASON THAT THEY PRETEND TO DISLIKE SOCIALISM; FOR THE SAME REASON THAT THEY PRETEND TO DISLIKE THE FREEDOM ENTAILED IN BEING " N E E T ", ET CETERA.

I was a later fan of Wes Anderson and saw Moonrise Kingdom/Hotel Budapest first, but I still like Rushmore and Bottle Rocket the best

>Wes Anderson Thread
>Don't even know what he looks like
>It's fucking Gaius Baltar

It's alright, soon he'll be president, after the bitch gets cancer or something.

this is the only Wes Anderson movie i liked

his autistic quirkiness doesn't work in movies with real people acting
