Why are they a dominantly post-rock band when the only music that sounds like them are noise/math rock bands like Shellac and Unwound?

Because they are actually a post-hardcore band who were very influential to later bands who would become known as post-rock

Because they come from a time when post-rock had a very broad sound. In fact, "post-rock" wasn't officially a thing until years later, but they still were a major influence.

Mogwai sucks

In 1991, noise rock was AmRep bands like Unsane and Helmet. Math rock hadn't been invented. It was all just prog. No one knew what to do with them. They also had tendencies to let riffs and even notes breathe, but not in a spacey kind of way, which they had in common with post rock bands that came after them.

This, post-rock had a different meaning back then, it wasn't supposed to recall a certain sound but rather describe the use of rock instruments to achieve something different from usual rock

Exemplified by the fact that bands like Euphone, Sea & Cake, Gastr Del Dol, etc were often called post-rock despite sounding nothing like crescendo core

>le talking over shitty music band
Hate them. Fuck off of mu

it's cold

the storm
took them all

fuck off pleb

Because 4/6 songs are post-rock.
BC - Post-hardcore
NM - Post-hardcore
D, A - Post-rock
Washer - Post-rock
FD - Post-rock
GM, C - Post-rock

Probably because they were first wave. They took the noise/math rock sound at stretched it to be more "compositional" which I think was the point of post-rock at that point, taking rock instrumentation/aesthetics and making "tracks"/"songs" into "pieces".

Yet again, no arguments from spiderland fans. I don't mind you enjoying your shitty music, just stop spamming it.

> implying you had any in the first place

kys confirming

>people still think that post-rock is a real thing
embarrassing

Spiderland's music sounds like a shit Lou Reed album.

They literally just talk over music.

lmao

nice try tho

Not like you brought up an argument to begin with. Cancer.

Slint isn't post-rock. The only thing that resembles post-rock on the album is also the worst track on the album "For Dinner..."

They were clearly inspired by hardcore/post-hardcore and Steve Albini, while adding their own experimentation.

idk, theres a couple good tracks on Come on die young

t. person who doesn't even know what post-rock is and thinks Godspeed is the epitome of it.

i dont listen to godspeed, so no
