Alright lads

Alright lads,
20 years old and considering joining the military. Want a purpose in life instead of rotting away like everyone else.
Give me your honest Military experiences, good and bad.

Hurry up and wait

>Food
GI bill
>Bad
Dying for no reason whatsoever in some third world shithole you never even heard of

For some silly reason the marines are a subordinate branch of the navy, but the coast guard is a top-line independent agency

dude you won't die unless you're doing the grunt shit. But if you're doing pansy ass shit like navy or air force desk work you're safe. It all depends what you want out of your experience

Sup Forumsro not every job has to do with combat or any gurantee you will deploy, I’m a mechanic and my unit doesn’t deploy

spoken liek a Vet

>go to military
>treated liek shit
>live w/ men
>possible PTSD - loss of life or limb
OR
>go to uni
>learn something useful
>party
>fuck bithces
>maek life long friends

YOU MUST CHOOSE!

What branch are you in?
Any memorable experiences from basic to today?

If you want to join for non-combat stuff, join the Air Force. Their quality life is so much better compared to other branches, just study your ass off for the ASVAB and you'll be fine.

If you're wanting to join for combat reasons, wait and train your ass off for a Special Operations rating. Don't be an idiot and join the Marines and end up with your thumb up your ass in the middle of fuck all nowhere 95% of the time when you get deployed, actually put in the time and effort to train and go into Army Rangers. They have the quickest training time out of any of the Special Operation ratings and you'll get to see combat way before anyone else.

>won't die unless you're doing the grunt shit
comm & supply get raided a LOT

I chose something else.

OP here. So my intentions would be to join and apply for a non combat position. I see no reason to go shoot a bunch of sand niggers for no reason. But what is the likelihood of being denied non combat and getting thrown in the ring anyways?

liek other user said;
go Air Force
better food
better treatment
learn something you can actually use afterward
very, very low chance of getting shot at

I still say go to uni, tho

I was a submariner in the Navy. I got out because the wife said it would save the marriage. Leaving did not save the marriage. I would do it again and wish I'd stayed in.

Oldest son joined the Marine Corps reserve. He's been in 10 years, but wishes he'd just enlisted. Says the reserve makes him a kind of shitty marine and kind of a shitty civilian employee.

Other son enlisted in the Marines and still likes it.

Daughter enlisted in the Army. Loved the training abut doesn't really like the job and wants to go to college.. Greatly wishes she had joined the reserves or National Guard instead. Basically the reverse of Son #1.

only losers join

Army fags are the worst people on earth.

-fight globalist wars for the elite

-constantly demand praise from the public just because they have a job

-are basically on welfare

if you ever come across one of these retards they will most likely be posting army captioned pictures on facebook, demanding a discount at mcdonalds, getting cheated on by their wife, or killing themselves.

wow
that was really helpful
>sic

You take your asvab and get to choose from a variety of different jobs based on your asvab score if you get a slot on a job you want you got to basic then ait for your job training

Chair Force all the way. Be a mechanic. Do your tour, then make buckets of cash fixing planes for United.

Wonder if you'll actually read this - this far into the thread - I think that you should take all this advice with a grain of salt, especially since 2018 Sup Forums (and all other previous years down until 2008) is comprised if literate retards and illiterate retards.

That said, get your advise from military members who are or were in the service. From my recollection, my Marine friends love the pride and image Marines endows you with, but as far as an occupation/lifestyle, it's fucking miserable. Same could be said for Army. Unless you go Special Forces or Air Force/Coast Guard, you're better off going to college and either working towards a masters or accumulating different degrees in order to expand your opportunities in a competitive world. I fucked and proceeded to take the "rotting" route, and let me tell you, I am a 26 year old faggot with no degree, a G.E.D, and profession in stocking boxes with precision speed at a retail store.

Good luck on your endeavors, as well as any other user who stumbles upon this post.

Any Air Force green texts to be had Sup Forums?

Basically don't be an idiot and have some sort of skills aside from shooting shit. Go admin, supply, clerical, medical, whatever interests you. Google search whatever brance you want and add “career fields” or “MOS list” and see what you like.

thathappened.jog

I’m in the army and nothing super specific as of right now I’ve been at my first duty station for a little over a year now so yeah but there’s a lot of good times anongst bullshit you’ll go through

Coast Guard falls under Dept Homeland Security, not Dept of Defense.

Been in Air Force and Army.
Deployments are a joke and you won't die like the morons on here saying you will. Ain't shit popping off in the middle east like it was in 2003-2010.

Air Force is the best route of course. Army disguises all jobs and will eventually make you 11b (Infantry), so be cautious.

Air Force Basic training is even a bigger joke now. They had some huge sexual assault/rape thing that happened in 2012 or something and now it's toned down even more. I went in 2008.

>Go Air Force
>Get a college degree
>get at least six years of work experience
>enjoy life as a civilian in easy mode.

This is an honest question and I am hoping for an honest answer (insults included if necessary).

I won't beat around the bush and bore you will irrelevant information (or at least try not to).

>26 years old
>G.E.D
>50 plus units of college credit
>proficient in English language, basic at Math, and a bit savvy on all things biology.

How fucked am I? Do I at least have a .1% chance at being able to join, or am I too late?

Your opinion?

uncle sam's canoe club

Not that guy, but you basically have 2 major things to get into the Air force.

1. No medical problems. The Air Force is really strict on medical DQ's and hardly ever allow for waivers. If you're in good health, you already stand a good chance.

2. Be moderately intelligent. The Air Force is also pretty strict on their ASVAB requirements. If you actually study hard for the ASVAB and brush up on your Algebra and Geometry you should be able to score well on the tests and have some good job opportunities.

I leave to Air Force BMT in two weeks. AMA

If any of you actually want some real and reliable information on joining, don't ask here. Go to /meg/ on /k/, they actually have a lot of experiences people there that can steer you in the right direction.

Currently enlisted, also currently "taking a shit" so I don't have to deal with my fuck ass LPO and hear his bitching about how apparently we're fucking up dropping this engine

20 year old male
navy
stationed in Norfolk, VA

i'm gonna highly recommend you do not join.
if you want purpose in life you aren't going to find it here.
get treated like shit, work long hours, barely get paid, deal with shitty people who don't know how to lead and only care about themselves.
you are just a cog in the wheel of the government and your only purpose is to do shitty work no one else wants to do. they don't care about you. why should they? they can get another person just like you easily.

the only good parts of it are GI Bill and getting to see some pretty dope countries (i've only been in for two years and have already been to five)

Also tattoos, I originally planned on chair force but the recruiter looked at my back tattoo and basically tossed my app in the trash. Easily covered by a t shirt and below my c-7

that's a true shipmate right there hooyah

What's your job/rate?

>deal with shitty people who don't know how to lead
Would you say this is because they went in as officers instead of from Enlisted to Officer?

i'm a logistics specialist (LS)
basically a bunch of moving shipments of boxes and crates of supplies (usually physically moving them by hand, sometimes by forklift). i'm 20 years old and already have a bad back from lifting a bunch of heavy shit. i can't drive a forklift, or do much else, because i'm colorblind.

i wouldn't say officers are the problem. officers make up a small part of the navy, and most officers are actually pretty chill. the most common thing you run across are enlisted fuckheads who are to self centered to give a shit about their work-center or their people, or are legit grown-retards and do not know how to do their job.

Firstly, I am grateful for your honest reply, so thank you for that.

Second, I am, in fact, fucked. I have a broken pinky toe, fractured my left hand, dislocated my thumb, and shattered my right clavicle into 5 pieces in a recent motorcycle crash.

I never compliment myself nor speak positive of my intellect, so I can't determine for sure if I am adequate enough to be among the "intellectually savvy" community; however, when push comes to shove I study vigorously and have managed to have a consistent steak of A's accumulated.

Do you think at the bare minimum, I could make into the Army/Marines as a pawn?

As I stated previously, I am a 26 year old high school drop out with a G.E.D. I work in a retail store and get paid minimum wage. I am also about 4-5 classes away from entering a Nursing program to become a Registered Nurse (providing I retain my g.p.a status and do well in the inevitable subjects I must partake in).

TL;DR: I am a partially unintelligible high school drop out on the road to recovery from a vehicle accident. I am physically fit, aside from the weight I am gaining due to lack of exercise (doctor's orders). Do I at least have a .1% chance with any other field?

>considering joining the military.

NEVER join the military.

Kek

Think it through lad, military needs non combat personnel IT, lifeguards, gym equipment managers, fucking anything - get in military, get sweet military health insurance by being the best damn janitor the force ever had. Retire as champion after 4 years without raping brown people or getting shot at + don't pay ⅜ of your income in healthcare costs forever.

OP, if you're considering Navy, watch "JTSuits" channel on Youtube. He's got more subscribers than the actual Navy's Youtube channel.

How hard is it to get a job with the FBI?

I’m a Aviation Mech in the Navy, and it’s not to bad, been in 3 years and some change, I mean it’s not awful, it could be better. Sure the Carriers suck, but what do you expect in the Navy? You know, lots a parties, free medical, gym on base, and it’s pretty much a 20 year fraternity if you stay in that long.

If this is not the potential recruiter in you talking game, then this actually sounds enticing. My main concern is the hierarchy that I must abide by. I follow orders, but I don't like being belittled and treated like shit. Also, I also hear a shit load of stories about superiors and their coy plans for making your life shit because their life is shit. Thoughts?
