Even if his political beliefs are shit, you admit this guy's lectures/books are pretty excellent - right?

Even if his political beliefs are shit, you admit this guy's lectures/books are pretty excellent - right?

do you recommend his antidote book ?

No, he is a poser.

I think there is a lot of waffling on theological analysis to make the points he wants to make, but generally I think 12RFL is pretty good

Do you not like the society of the lobsters?

I watched much of his youtube stuff. Is there enough of information/practicality in that book such that it justifies the buy ?

i mean i already know the lobster stuff.... why buy the book when i can just google the rules

>Even if his political beliefs are shit
What of his political veliefs do you consider shit?
I don't agree with everything he says, but I think he has a lot of good stuff to say both politically and in his lectures.

>why buy the book when i can just google the rules
Because every single rules has an entire chapter explaining what exactly the rule means and entails?
If you could grasp everything by just looking at 12 point list of the rules, he wouldn't have written a fucking buck about them.

I actually have the exact opposite opinion. He has some good ideas, and occasionally expresses them articulately, but for the most part his lectures and written materials are too scatterbrained. He's all over the place and often takes far too long to make a point. I wonder if he has an editor at all sometimes.

Agreed.

But he talks on yt about the content of his book and i think what he describes there is simple to understand. for example he explained the biology and lobsters and the hierarchy stuff multiple times (as well as other stuff) and there are these vids about the rules. So how much more will i get out of the book if ive seen this shit ?

...

No. Fuck this bigot misogynist.

OP is a crybaby libfag.

Dr. Helen smith

It depends, I guess.
If you find an Youtube video explaining and commenting on every single rule in the book, that probably covers the basics. So far, Peterson has only talked about 1 or 2 of the chapters in some detail, but still not nearly as detailed as the chapters are.
So the other chapter are probably covered (if at all) by some random schmuck on Youtube. Don't know if you would want to listen to them or rather read the book yourself.

Yep

he just got marginalized by the globe and mail newspaper in canada as 'just another angry white guy'

which of course just strengthens his point about identity politics but goes to show how fucking stupid the left can be to dismiss someone so casually who is obviously not an idiot

Every 'rule' has a chapter or two that's basically a mini essay on that particular ruling

I listened to it on audiobook and each chapter is about an hour long

Watching maps of meaning right now

...

he sucks shit on all fronts

troll harder

I'd like to see JBP and dr.helen Smith debate on Joe Rogan experience

I mean he got public noteriety with his comments on some legislation about pronouns and his objections to that were at least in-part grounded in rational, well explained ideas

I don't know what part of his politics OP thinks are shit but for me it was when he said students should effectively 'boycott' any classes that discuss ideas of privilege, patriarchy etc.

I mean even if you were to question the extent to which these ideas have a tangible impact in people's lives, surely it's bs for mr free ideas free thinker to say 'fuck it don't listen to these people they are feeding you lies' rather than at least learn about them

I started reading the book yesterday. The book has a very personal feel to it, as if he is speaking only to me so i'd say its worth the money

thx

Also, its a genuinely motivating read.

He ends every rule and chapter with an encouragement to improve both the individual and society and that shit makes me really happy and confident

Not trolling. I legitimately find his beliefs utterly repugnant. He's a hateful piece of shit.

Any specifics? He has quite a varied amount of differing views. For the record I don't entirely disagree

Its one thing to learn about and understand an opposing view point and quite another to be force-fed dogma in a public institution.

I'm sure his main opposition isn't to the material in the class which is necessary to understand in order to understand the people spouting them, but to the forcing of all students to see this viewpoint and only this viewpoint.

For instance, Lindsey Shepard what raked over the coals and brought infront of a feminist tribunal merely for showing one of this videos. This is the difference between learning about every idea and being forced to only learn about one.

Keep in mind he also objects to ideas which are proven to kill people. Every piece of legislation that enshrines identity politics which is a core tenant of marxism, brings us closer to another 10 million dead.

I agree some of his points are generalised and based in his old school beliefs but at least he's entertaining and not afraid to walk it back when he goes to far

>and his objections to that were at least in-part grounded in rational, well explained ideas

Except they weren't His interpretation of the legislation was wrong, to the point that he is either completely incompetent, or being purposefully obtuse. The legislation did not impose the limits he claimed it did. He misrepresented the issue and spread fear and hatred for personal gain.

I think that's fair, especially considering the state of univeristies right now where there isn't that balance of showing each side

I think it was more that he was more generally dismissive than he needed to be which seemed hypocritical of his general character. I don't have the exact quote to hand but I'm pretty sure he was saying that even if you're a teenager in high school you should boycott such classes that talk about such issues, getting your parents involved etc.

You can say the patriarchy/white privilege is a bunch of horse shit, but I just found it bizarre whenever he's talked about such issues he's given the same lack of intellectual engagement he's accused others of doing so often for other issues

Oh look another justice warrior I think you are on the wrong sight every body here is all about being able to say what ever the fuck we want

Only communists and fascist assholes want to control what you think and say

His argumentative premise was based at quite a base level of muh free speech

Did that make him a transphobe? Nope. Is he anyway? To be honest probably quite a bit.

i completely agree

Whenever I listen to his stuff, it's a bit scary at how many "buttons" it pushes in my brain. And that makes me *really* suspicious of his message.

Nothing is that cut and dried, and I feel like I'm being somehow manipulated or played in some way. Anyone else feel like that?

I do completely disagree with his viewpoint on children and family, though, so there's that bit of dissonance which makes me feel a bit more grounded. But, in other respects, I always feel like I'm being "sold to", not informed, like I'm in some type of timeshare presentation.

is it because you're in third grade?
> welcome new friend.

Freedom of speech is a poor political belief in 2018?

I relate to this so much - the simplicity and codification of it all is very comforting but I wonder if it's the message I'm relating to or just the fact that explaining complex philosopical issues in easy, tangible terms feels good

We (us and Canada) didnt pull the british and those fagot assed frenches asses out of the fire in two world wars by creating safe spaces and worrying about 1000 gender pronouns

And of all the people who you would think who would be on the side of free speech would be those simple minded talking heads in the media

his ideas are good, his lectures are good, his books are muddled and confused when they meander around points without ever adding to the substance of his intended message

I've seen a handful of his videos and the only thing that he seems to hate is people telling others what to think, say, and do.

Exactly. It's a bit too "neat and tidy". I'm always on guard about media manipulation but I can't put my finger on where his arguments are fallacious. Still very hesitant about buying into it and because of that, I try not to listen to him too much. I'm slowly cutting most serious media out of my life, actually, just because there's SO much spin to every fucking thing out there.

>petersonfags need a father figure so much they have to listen to some fag tell them to make their bed

Psyhology sucks. It's not a sience. It should not have degrees. Fucking art school.

Anybody who would pay tons of money to go to a college that perpetuate this equality is only for women agenda has to be some special kind of stupid

That's exactly what we need cause way more than have the males in this country are being raised by women who don't have a clue what it takes to raise a man so these boys need help

what, actually what?

Because of the ease of porn and the internet these fucking man children never learn how to socialize, talk to a woman other than their mom's make a bed iron a shirt look respectable stand up straight or talk to somebody in the face. All you have to do is read half the posts from these cucks on B to see my point

The fact that this shit needs to be LECTURED to fucking 20+ old people is so disgusting.

>Even if his political beliefs are shit
but they arent

" my girlfriend is cheating on me what do I do?" ...dump the bitch and roll on..... I'm socially awkward and live in my mom's basement what do I do? Quit eating cheetos, shave and take a shower and get a job and meet some real live people

>Phonefag
>Screenshotting instead of using the built in reply system
>Can't type a coherent sentence
Are you disabled?

He's teaching these young guys to form opinions for themselves over the the ones they are parroting from the chicks they are trying so desperately to see naked

>we will only use our powers for good!
>they try to silence lindsay shepard just like jbp said they would
jbp is the only one telling the truth

The phone fag doesn't spend his whole life staring at a screen... I have a fulfilled life full of people and art and real sex with real women and do good stuff for others

when did you antifa fags get on Sup Forums, you were never welcomed here

I may not know how to text tolls on B but I can fix my car, talk to strangers, play guitar and talk up lady's 15 years younger than me

JBP is good for men like hemmingway, and John Wayne and Hunter s thompson, Tennessee Williams.... the world needs more intellectual men and less guys trying to get layed by feminists

No, he has to be trolling.
He's like mocking the mainstream media who call him alt-right, when in reality he's mild as fuck, right?

fair enough, its not even good trolling though. At this point it's just obnoxious

3/4 of the guys on Sup Forums could use a little of what JBP is saying

Idk if he's mild or just cool af I think he's got a temper and he admits he was quite a drinker when he was younger

Considering you used a slash,
You're truly not him.
He's quite good, subjectively, technical, objective and emotional at the same time.

What is this guy known for outside of being against SJWs? Is that the only reason he's so popular right now?

2nd rate Jungian psychology mixed with psuedo intelectual reactionary dribbling. A stupid person's smart man.

You "men" should be trying to hook linsey Shepard she's hot af super smart and brave as hell... If I was 15 years younger I'd be working on that every day

>a stupid persons smart man
Well, his iq is at least 2 standard deviations above the mean so i guess you are right, he is smart in comparison to the average person like yourself

Nothing. He's famous because retards thinks he's out there "triggering the libs". He's had no meaningful contribution to anything important ever. At least Dawkins had some career before everyone found out he was screeching crybaby.

A PERSON ON THE INTERNET MADE FUN OF PAPA WE MUST DEFEND HIM

Lol at this kermit the frog sounding motherfuckers "fans".

Way to prove my point bucko

He's just the latest "intellectual" the alt-right has become infatuated by because they shit on SJWs. First was Milo, then Shapiro, then Crowder, now it's JBP. Granted I like JBP the best out of those 4, he's still just an above-average IQ dude who took a stance against radical regressives and now the alt right wont shut the fuck up about him

They're excellent enough to warrant shilling against him. That's a good litmus test.

HE WAS MY PROF. AT U OF T?

WHAT DO YOU BELIEVE ARE HIS "POLITICAL BELIEFS"? HE IS CAREFUL NOT TO DISCUS POLITICS OR ALIGN WITH A SIDE BUT HERE IN TORONTO HE WAS CLOSE FRIENDS WITH JACK LAYTON. NOT EXACTLY RIGHT OF ANYTHNG.

HE ALSO WAS A HOUND DOG AND FUCKED MORE HOT PUSSY THAT I CAN EVER DREAM OFF.

A POSER? NOPE.

A FRAUD? NOPE

HE'S A FUCKING GENIUS WHO IS FINALLY MAKING REAL MONEY. GOOD FOR HIM.

Self-help shit is really the same kind of crap. His book doesn't add anything new that you can't find anywhere else.

Haters gotta hate..... talk to me in twenty years and let's see where it got you

NAH THIS GUY AIN'T "ALT RIGHT". HE'S A COMMON SENSE GUY. IF ANYTHING HE LEANS TO THE LEFT. HAD HM FOR TWO COURSES AT U OF T. HE'S LEFT WING. SLIGHTLY LEFT OF CENTER. HE SUPPORTED NDP HERE IN TORONTO.

He developed a moral framework that can reasonably be argued for while still leaving room for doubt and new developments and is capable of explaining it to the general public. The way he delivers it tends to also be quite motivating to actually do good and improve your own life.

He really didn't do anything new, but he pieced together existing knowledge and humanist values in a way that makes sense and can be lived by with success, but isn't ideologically rigid.

HIS BEST SHIT IS PRE FAME. GET HIS TTC SEMINAR. I WAS THERE . IT'S THE BEST SHIT GOING ON THIS PLANET RIGHT NOW. TRUTHFULLY HE PULLED ME OUT OF A DEEP DEPRESSION AND DRUG USE WHEN I WAS HIS STUDENT. HE'S GOOD PEOPLE.

I didn't say he was alt-right, I said the alt-right is attracted to him because of his stance on the regressive left. I agree that he appears to be slightly left of center

HE'S A GOOD MAN. HE PULLED ME OUT OF A DEPRESSION AND DRUG USE FREE OF CHARGE. HE ALSO TAUGHT ME HOW OT WRITE AN ESSAY AND STUDY. HE DID IT ALL FREE.

HE KNEW I WAS HAVING ISSUES JUST FROM MY FIRST ASSIGNMENT I HANDED IN. HE CALLED ME IN HIS OFFICE AND SAID "OK, WHAT'S WRONG"? BEFORE THIS WE DIDN'T SHARE A WORD IN CLASS.

Ideologically rigid I agree but if you're not a moron it's worth a listen

He doesn't offer ideas that haven't already been explored in the history of philosophy. It's just the way he presents them and the time and place in which he does so that makes him so prophetic. Nonetheless, he has a few salient ideas that have seriously saved me from killing myself:
1. Life is tragic. This is basically the opposite of how the average Westerner thinks. Life isn't meant to be "happy" or "fun," it is actively working against you a la entropy. It is solely your responsibility to make order out of the chaos by seeing the truth and working to correct faults.
2. Be a monster; there's nothing virtuous in just being "nice." I've been a "nice guy" man-baby basically all my life. Peterson really opened me up to the idea that every adult has the potential for incredible destruction. And not just the potential to perpetrate it, but to enjoy doing so. Get in touch with your inner monster, integrate it, tame it, and then don't be a monster. But be as dangerous as you can be.

Clearly he didn't teach you how to turn caps lock off

WASN'T HIS JOB. THIS WAS PRE SPENDING 16 HRS A DAY ONLINE LIKE WE DO NOW HUH LONELY LOSER?

WE ARE TALKING MID 90'S HERE.
