I'm sort of torn on this issue but was curious what other here thought of it. Recently the developers of Subnautica fired the sound engineer that worked on the game because of what were considered "racist" and "trans-phobic" tweets and comments, and apparently being a fan of some infowars person.
On the one hand I think it's absolute bullshit that a persons political and personal beliefs for that matter cannot be kept secret from their work, and if people disagree with them they should take it up personally with them as opposed to the company they simply work for.
On the other hand I understand that if you own a company and you hire your own employees then it's your right to fire someone if you believe that their publicly shared beliefs may threaten your products sales and reputation, as silly as the arguments from the vocal SJW minority may be.
It's a truly awesome game, and I'm certain that %99 percent of the current and potential customer base for this would not have chosen against purchasing it because of the beliefs of a sound engineer who worked on it, but the developers chose to appease the vocal minority, which I suppose is their right. I just feel like they would have won over more potential customers by defending their employees fantastic work while disagreeing with his beliefs as opposed to just outright firing him.
Devs fired the sound designer over wrong groupthink, basically committing suicide
Purchases will not be going towards one of the core people responsible for the quality of the game

Personally I don't really give a shit what the people who make a product personally believe, it's the just the spineless behavior of throwing an employee under the bus that I find very off putting. It's their company their right, just love to see when a company stands it's ground, which they don't even have to agree with his statements to do, just defend his work not his person.

Yeh pretty much the same here. I really enjoy the game and bought it during the first week of EA, so I'm not gona just stop playing it because of this. It's gona hurt buying the DLC but I'll suck it up because I like the game so much.
