Bump.

Kenny G
Norah Jones

...

I know this might not be the easiest album to get into since it features spoken word in finnish in a very important role but i just have to post it since it's exactly what OP was looking for. Restored my faith in jazz.

Duke ellington Far east suite
So you think op would rather 36 minutes of random shit playing?

>first minute interesting melodie
>8 minutes of random shit playing
>last minute interesting melodie
The absolute state of this board. It's been a mistake, I'm convinced of it.

Miles Davis - Kind of Blue

Childhood is when you idolize interesting melodie. Adulthood is when you realize the 8 minutes of random shit playing makes more sense.

kys

Only reply threads like these deserve.

As someone who has listened to a bunch of jazz, i get OP's point. Sure, the solos in jazz tracks CAN be interesting but it's kind of lame that such a huge part of jazz is still even today tied to the pretty restricting theme-solo x times-theme -structure.

That's structurally just what OP was describing

I thought by random shit he meant far out stuff and was looking for more accessible stuff.

Early swing and vocal jazz

As i send you this, I hope you know it takes time to realize what it is they're doing, Don't worry its not random (I Despisd that type of shit with a passion) but this took a little getting used to because im very picky... Best songs are "Scarlet Town" "Marcie" "I Cover The Waterfront" and "The Old Shade Tree"...

those two are some boring honkys. shit sucks.

Such Sweet Thunder

No U.... No but for real, why didn't you like them? Their stuff gets intense

Anything by him.

When complex melodies and improvisation is passed as "random shit" is when you know only your fucking grandma browses this board.

Ease yourself into it with some more structured albums at first:
youtube.com/watch?v=_HQRZSLYeMM (only the first part is linked, but the rest of Brubeck plays Brubeck is similar)

Remember that larger groups tend to be a bit more focused, if only for the fact that trying to have twelve people improvise in the course of a song is a damn sight harder than having three do the same. Older (as in pre-1950ish) jazz is usually a bit more accessible, often for this reason.

Yussef Kamaal - Black Focus

OP is clearly a pleb.

Looking for more stuff like this tho.

The old shade tree? Scarlet Town? Daughter of Eve?

Count Basie - The Atomic Mr. Basie

it'll really kick you in the balls. the whole thing is a blast.

on the first song rn. Goddamn this thing goes hard..

How exactly is jazz supposed to be limiting today, given so many subgenres which emerged over the years?

WAIT HOLD ON who is this?
I swear I've heard this before......

Is it Ahmad Jamal?
or someone from the ECM label?

no - theyre all like that

horace silver is a pretty cool guy

hard bop in general has more set melodies and less improv if that isnt your cuppa tea

I think you're missing the point. Jazz is very much about improv and putting your own "spin" or "personality" in your solos. Kind of like how rap was very much, you had to write your own verses, jazz was very personal to the specific soloist. Kinda like heres the topic, then everyone who wants to chime in and give their take on the topic are given a chance to take a shot. Then once everyone is done, you go back to the original point and leave. Like a debate almost.

i recommend you kill yourself

it sounds like jazz, most songs here are under 3 minutes long, the music is simple and humorous

OP is a faggot.
>Be black person
>Never played [instrument] before
>See white man playing [instrument]
>Buy shitty version of [instrument]
>Get other black person to bang on drums, bass, and piano
>Play [instrument]
