Movie has a poker/card game scene

>movie has a poker/card game scene
>can't understand anything that's going on even though it might be essential to the plot
RRRRRRRREEEEEEE

Casino Royale fucked me over with this

what are some good poker movies

already see rounders

in the story casino royale, they're actually playing baccarat
they changed it to texas hold 'em so plebs could understand what was going on
you missed the boat

How is this important? I don't know the rules of poker, but I understand the basic principle that some hands are worth more than others and bluffing. What else do I need to know?

>never learned to play chess
>can't make sense of all those metaphorical chess games between the hero and villain

Nigga how do you not understand poker
It's so entry level

>>never learned to play chess
You probably should have learned. Any particular movie you had in mind?

Not him, but I've never known anyone who was interested in the game and gambling doesn't interest me.

Like the ending of Summer Wars which revolved around a game I don't even know the name of let alone know the rules. Like, come the fuck on.

Same here, I never understood The Wire because of this

Just look up a FAQ or play any other video game than Call of Duty in the past 10 years.
Poker is easy as fuck. Try wrapping your head around Majong, Shogi, Koi or any other nip games.

>Any particular movie you had in mind?

They do it a lot in X-Men, then there's the Seventh Seal, Alice in Wonderland, etc.

>Just look up a FAQ
Again, I think I got the basics. Maybe I'm a little confused about how they get to the point where they bet, but the point of having a poker scene is to have two characters face off to see who can lie better, like in Casino Royale, or in Mr Selfridge, or to metaphorically represent that one character suspects the intentions of the other, like in Game Show.

>Try wrapping your head around Majong, Shogi, Koi or any other nip games
What's the point of this? I'm not interested in learning the rules of poker or any of those games. If I wanted to learn a nip game, it would definitely be Go, but I don't really want to play that either.

>movie has a poker/card game scene
>the winning card is revealed
>it's the ace of spades

>never had sex
>can't understand people, places, or anything in movies

Okay. You should probably learn the rules of chess for your personal edification, but to explain the basis metaphor, the pieces can move in certain ways on the board, and the goal is to put the other player's King in checkmate while protecting your own. A player's King is in check when one of the other player's pieces is in a position where it can capture the King by moving to his square in the next move, which can be usually obviated in various ways. If a player's King is put in check and there's no way he can obviate the King being captured, it's called Checkmate, and the other player wins.

The King is the most important piece, so it represents the most valuable person in the narrative, but not necessarily the most able, as he King can only move one space in either direction, making it the second weakest piece. The pawn is the weakest piece and this usually represents the weakest person in any story.

Usually, chess metaphors are quite weak and places there for pretentiousness.

>Nip game
>Go
It's a Chinese game.

>movie has people with friends and romance and sex
>can't understand anything that's going on even though it might be essential to the plot

I was aware of that, but it was exported to the West from Japan. What's your point? So is Mahjong,

Name one movie you can't understand because you're a kissless virgin.

>can undertstand movie

>Try wrapping your head around Majong

uh.. you match the same tiles.

>watches the seventh seal
>doesn't know how to play CHESS

blue valentine, before trilogy, cant relate to anything involving relationships and parties, much less casual chatting, small talk and being spontaneous

They're all nips to me

>cant relate to anything involving relationships and parties, much less casual chatting, small talk and being spontaneous
Haven't seen either of these movies, but usually if it's well done enough, it doesn't matter if you're socially awkward or anything.

that's not actual mahjongg you dumb nigger
that's just some solitaire shit

...

I never knew how to play chess either, but several weeks ago i stumbled on wiki page about chess rules, took me 5 minutes to fully understand them all. It's super easy to remember, go read the article and play some games with bots. Of course the game is difficult but the rules are simple.

I love poker in video games. I spent a fuckload of time in Red Dead Redemption playing against shitbags in casinos, taking them for everything.
Same with The Yakuza games.

I don't play video games where poker is a mini-game.

>i am a redditor
ok

>character loses life savings on a bad hand
>NOW I WANNA BE YOUR DOG starts playing

>movie has a poker/card game scene
>protag pulls a royal flush

ya, that ONE match that is the match of his life, he pulls a royal. pshh

>movie shows a casino
>it features a bunch of good looking, well dressed people having fun

>Not knowing how to play Poker

>People are this dumb

not all of us on Sup Forums are weeaboo faggots i guess

How so?

How inaccurate is that?

It is full of alchoholics and gamblers obviously
