it is exaggeration, but genre besides very few acts who makes almost uncharacteristic music is full of shit.
Same goes for Burial and rest of future garage, where one artist is light years ahead and others just too poor imitations.
Unironically this. But that’s what happens when you listen to a artist that’s considered best of genre first and then go and listen to other artists in that genre expecting more of what you just listened to.
also there are hundreds of trip hop artists usually by a name DJ something and they all suck
lo-fi hip hop anime chill & study > portishead
Bump for interest. Spoonfeed me quality triphop that's not totally obvious.
Bonobo's first album is tops, never made anything similar after it

are ther any triphop genres
seems like the most undiscussed genre on mu
No, trip hop itself is a form of downtempo but there are no subgenres of trip hop.
>genres
*charts
It's undiscussed cuz there's literally 5 or 6 relevant albums
Your mistake was listening to trip-hop past the 90's
blockhead
>not totally obvious.
uhhh
Yeah I like Bonobo already, Black Sands is my favourite record of his. Other than Bonobo, Emancipator, and Massive Attack I haven't found much triphop that was made after 2000 that I actually enjoy.
Your caps and formatting reeks of cancer and new
Also Portishead’s third album is heir best
Trip-hop went to shit once it stopped focusing on dark urban atmosphere and turned into chill beats you can relax to.
Good taste.
>>not totally obvious.
I guess I just meant not a household name
Trip-hop has a handful of decent artists/groups, but along with a slew of people trying to imitate their idols. And then there's groups like Portishead and Massive Attack who basically blew everyone else out of the fucking water; no one has ever been able to one-up their early stuff.
Here's some of my favorite tracks from groups that made like 1-2 albums and basically vanished:

>Ulver
Is this considered good triphop by people who know about triphop? I'm a fan of Ulver from their avant garde side and always wondered this
fun fact: portishead and massive attack are overrated as hell
Chinese Man
Not really. Good ears for samples, amazing guest vocalists for Massive Attack, perfect production. And both groups know how to write decent hooks.
I've never heard of Grantby, but thanks for the rec.
Here's one from me:
