Obscure music. Not music every Sup Forums-drone appears to like to feel edgy.

Im seriously going to cum if someone doesnt post good music

Music is bad

Just get good at finding adjacent artists to the one you like.

>listen to artists that aren't played on the radio
>listen to the artists that tour with them
>listen to the artists that influenced them

You could also try researching your local artists, chances are there's a local scene of whatever genre you're into.

half is numale core that everyone knows, the other half is noname garbage

you dont

obscure music is all made by nonames because thats why its obscure you retard

Listen to any oxbow record and you will ascend weird obscure hard to listen to music fan status immediately

This may sound retarded, but a lot of the obscure metal bands I learned about I heard on Sup Forums
Once in a great while they have a music thread that isn't total shit and I get turned on to something new. After that I start listening to these bands on youtube and see the other related artists on the side. It just goes from there.

You go on real message boards with people who actually own music. Then they will trade you music and give you recommendations.

HOW TO GET INTO OBSCURE MUSIC WITHOUT BEING A TWAT

1. Be prepared to spend a lot of time listening to and reading about music. Be prepared to spend at least some money on music, books on music, albums, etc.

2. Take an album, an artist, a song, whatever music you like and listen to it a lot. Listen to it passively, while you do wash the dishes, go for a walk, etc. Do it actively, sit down, JUST listen, pay attention. Do this until you have a pretty good handle on what you like about it. This will TAKE TIME. Don't try to brute force grind it or you'll just end up hating what you like.

3. Start researching that whatever, and keep an eye out for things related to it that have the things you figured out you like. How to research: google, read wikipedia articles, read interviews with the band members (PAY ATTENTION TO THE BANDS THEY RECCOMEND) go to the library and maybe even read books about the band. Read reviews and pay attention to comparisons. Follow collaborations/break ups.

4. Listen to stuff you find this way. Make sure not to instinctively dismiss stuff. Give it a few listens.

5. Often the thing you like will coalesce into a style, movement, or technical thing as you research around that thing you like. Use that to find more stuff, or stuff adjacent to that. Listen to that stuff, give it time, see if you can get into it.

6. Introduce an element of chance. Pick up random albums at the store, go on soundcloud and keep clicking, etc. Give whatever it is you find a real chance.

7. Do this for years. Then you will be into a ton of stuff that won't feel obscure to you but will be obscure. Over time you will also develop better and better listening skills. The more work you put into learning about music the faster this will be.

8. Revisit some things you dismissed after awhile, and dont be afraid to let go of stuff you liked. Don't let other people's opinions sway you too much.
