80s and early 90s (pic related). Honestly, for a lot of bands it seemed like they were just going to continue getting better, but then everything just fell to pieces.
As for your pic, I've never been that fond of Controlled by Hatred / Feel Like Shit... Deja Vu. I vastly prefer the albums on either side of it: How Will I Laugh Tomorrow, and Lights... Camera... Revolution.

Bitch, please. Just because they went to shit doesn't mean they weren't pioneers of metal and fucking fantastic back in the day. You can argue that there are better metal albums than Master of Puppets, but it's at least a contest. Hell, Metallica is pretty clearly metal even these days, just not particularly great metal.
