Can a goalie ever be considered overall GOAT in football/hockey or is that reserved for only score babies?

Can a goalie ever be considered overall GOAT in football/hockey or is that reserved for only score babies?

>watching diveball

2bh Neuer should've been Ballon d'Or in 2014 but FIFA marketing said "no."

/nrl/ ahitposter just ignore this faggot. He's probably a Broncos customer

If it wasn't for Wayne Gretzky and Original Six babies you could make a legitimate case that Hasek was the GOAT. Or Roy. The dominance of 90s goaltenders just cannibalized each other and they never got the recognition they could have. Whereas with marquee forwards, they compete by running up the scores on other teams and you think "wow they can score so much" but when multiple goalies are keeping games under 2 goals a night, people just think "wow what a low scoring league" and want to change shit.

Its hopeless now though, nobody in hockey cares about goalies anymore, they lost their superhero status and persona. Outside of Carey Price no other goalie is held in as high a regard as first liners.

no, not really

What if the goalie would score a cheeky goal every so often from his goalpost to the opponent's one?

Mexican Campos did this.

Given as the goalkeeper is by far the single most important player on the pitch, the top 50 greatest soccer players list is all goalkeepers. The greatest field player of all time doesn't crack the top 50 because they are way more replaceable than a goalkeeper and if you are replaceable, you are not the greatest.

why do they even train with the rest of the team? they should just bulk up until they get pic related physique and occasionally dive after a few balls once a week after practice and that's that.

Chilavert and Butt are the GOAT gks confirmed

Only strikers and offensive midfielders can be in the GOAT discussion

Defending and goalkeeping are easy, and the purpose of this game is to score more goals than the oponent, ergo goal scorers/assisters are the best players

Chilavert scored lot of goals (great free kicks and penalties taker) and is considered one of the best South American goalkeeper in history

On Argentina holiday, Brenny?

This desu.

The 90s and early 2000s truly were The Age of the Goalie.

they're basically playing a different sport within the same game

you rank goalies by totally different metrics to everyone else, and they stand out a lot compared to all the outfield players, sort of like quarterbacks they have totally different physical attributes and requirements, and can play much longer than everyone else.

>only score babies

sure m8, maradona or cruyff had a giant amount of goals

>Outside of Carey Price no other goalie is held in as high a regard as first liners.
Bobrovsky and Holtby are

Barely. Bobrovsky isn't lauded as highly as McDavid or Crosby. It is considered "a lock" for McDavid for basically being the only guy to break 100 points this year. Despite McDavid onyl getting 100, barely reaching the mark of Hart winners in regular season and despite the fact that Bobrovsky had not one but two dominant months that made me him near impossible to score on.

Also Holtby is talked about as an all-star, not a legend like Roy, Brodeur, or Hasek were. He's the fifth guy that comes up when you think of Capitals.

If it wasn't for Bobrovsky's putrid last 4 starts, he would've set, or been right there next to all time statlines. Also daily reminder Craig Anderson has posted the highest single season save %.

The ignorance about Football emerging from this thread is abysmal.

>this is a serious thread
fuck off pizza

we love our hockey goalies a lot
contributions of others are barely even recognized
