Where does the notion that post-punk is a sadboi genre come from? Most of it is pretty energetic energetic and quirky

joy division t-shirts

joy dididon

It comes from the fact that most people only know Joy Division

I can't believe it's all Joy Division's fault.
Actually, user, I've never heard that association. Maybe cause so many musicians who did this genre and people who liked it killed themselves?

Joy Division

THEY CAN'T KEEP GETTING AWAY WITH THIS

post punk is more anxious or paranoid than sad imo
at least the good stuff

Perhaps it stems from the fact that it's Joy Division's fault

because it's gay

Joy Division, The Cure and ---only partially--- The Smiths.

I had no idea The Cure were considered Post-Punk, guess it makes more sense now.

you could fix this easily by selling PiL and Pop Group shirts in Urban Outfitters

The Cure fall into post-punk quite neatly. Post-punk shattered into a million genres, so it's not like you can easily go and pick one. U2's earliest work falls into post-punk and that sounds nothing like DEVO which technically falls into post-punk as well. It's just a mess.

The Cure is a great band i hate putting them in a box the way you do with shit bands like PIL

There are honestly like ten post-punk bands anyone should listen to and then just do yourself a favor and leave it at that.

>shit bands like PIL
how can someone have taste this bad?

I think its revivalism has been pretty interesting, bands like Iceage, Ought and Interpol are really great and some of the best rock that modern music has to offer imo.

o_o

shit opinion

That's been fun but I wish people would start looking away from the same boring post-punk bands, like maybe veer towards goth, industrial and darkwave instead of copying the same old post-punk bands over and over.

And not just Chelsea Wolfe since she just stopped trying after like her second album.
I've heard good things about Jenny Hval though

You really gonna defend the endless shitstream of post-punk bands Sup Forums has pulled out of the ass of 80s nostalgia?

>Goth

>shit bands like PIL

mfw

Pls remove Metal box from ass and go and listen to Pornography
Then give all of your grey oxford shirts to charity

Devo is new wave

>Unironically listening to goth

Goth is unironically a great genre, you have no argument. You're talking to a dumbass though, The Cure have at least 4 albums better than Pornography and PIL was great when they came out.

>likes the Cure
>can't into PiL
>the fucking Cure
Sad

PIL is just tabloid bullshit, a nothing band with shit sound and shit songs. 'look mummy i cursed on the telly'

>all this gothfagging
go away chris ott, i know you're here

>only chris ott listens to goth
This is how dumb you sound

>implying robert smith didn't live in the tabloid after ian curtis died

>taking shitposting seriously
this is how autistic you sound

>i was only pretending to be retarded
The state of you.

to be honest, I wasn't around but what I've heard from the cure is amazing music, what i've heard and seen from PIL is open ass. and I love Never mind the bollocks

you seriously think anyone expects chris ott to be here? are you this stupid lmao?

I know he knows we exist it would be pretty cool d e s u

>listening to Devo post 1980

>PIL is just tabloid bullshit
You're perhaps confusing PiL with Sex Pistols.

ye i get that vibe, its sort of just negative energy music, sort of inverted aggression of the punk it derived from

"I wish I could die"
I'm stumped desu

U2 is not and has never been even remotely related to post-punk.

Let's turn this shit thread around shall we? Post your favourite post-punk album!

It's impossible to really, really choose!

everything but their debut, that is

i tend to associate post-punk with shoegaze sometimes (the chameleons etc.) hence it may seem a sad genre but OP's right

I've never noticed people saying that

Ok

Boy, October and War are very much post-punk.

entry-level post-punk is pretty sad, dark and/or angry

joy division
the chameleons
mission of burma
killing joke
this heat
the pop group

the 2000s post-punk revival was more upbeat but still pretty intense with groups like interpol and editors

you have no idea what you're talking about

'new wave' is one of the many styles that splintered off from post-punk

>they're not post-punk because I don't like them
retard

There not depressing but Pop Group is super anxious and paranoid sounding.

It's a tie between Metal Box,Odbrana i poslednji dani and Night Time
