How much do you have to drink before it becomes an alcoholism issue?
Not gonna expose anyone, but I'm part of the youtube drinking community. On average, I drink prob 2 - 40oz of malt liquor at least twice a week. Tonight, I've had 42 oz of Magnum, 40oz of cobra, and 25oz bud ice with plenty to spare.

As for the alcoholism, it's more of a habit than how much you drink. I can easily go through a litre of whisky in a night, but can go months with nothing.
If you drink enough to get drunk every day, then you're damaging yourself and borderline alcoholic. If you wake up and need alcohol to get out of bed then you're a full blown alcoholic. Alcoholism is a pattern not a binge.
And this stupid 'oz' ..ounces.. does it measure volume I guess? Or weight? Who knows?

I did a bachelor's in CS too and learned nothing useful for what I do now. It's all about keeping up to date with the latest trends really, that's what gets me the better contracts. Devs tend to pick their languages and stick with them for life. Your job sounds much more chill tho.

A few months ago someone i knew who also has this surgery drunk herself into a coma.
That's when they told her about 70% with GP devellop an alcohol addiction within 2 years.
And i started looking at myself.
I was hungover, tired, disconnected from reality every single day.
When i finally quit, for 2 weeks my stomach would practically beg for a drink, it's frightening just how dependant you become.
It's gradually getting better now, but they say drinkers like us will never be able to drink lik normal people.
I'd like to be the 1% here, but i fear this is an attempt at rationalising to be able to drink again, an excuse if you will.
There is no arbitrary number or volume of alcohol that makes you an alcoholic. If alcohol causes problems in your life and those problems are becoming increasingly harder to manage then you might have a drinking problem. If you'd tried to slow down your drinking (with moderation and/or breaks) in the past and went right back to where you were then you might have a drinking problem. There are many types of alcoholic, not just the two-pints-a-night vodka guzzler. Binge drinking IS a form of alcohol abuse when it causes regret, remorse, shame, embarrassment, or wishing last night didn't happen. Being unable to stop once you start, being able to drink more than you used to, lying about or hiding your drinking, drinking to relax or feel better, and trying to quit and being unable to are all part of alcohol abuse. Other people can tell you if you have an alcohol abuse problem. But alcoholism? There's only one person that can admit that or deny it.
Op here. I've been through counseling post a couple divorces but no official alcoholism diagnoses. Dated a psych doctor for 4+ yrs and know I'm not a clinical alcoholic. All the males in my fam are drug/alc addicts but it rarely interferes with my day to day (once or twice a month I'll miss shipping same day, tops).
I drink for views and boredom, just bullshitting other ytdc members, tbh. Don't wanna become like my uncle's though. Stealing $11k from my grandma isn't cool, unlike one of my addict uncles last year.
I'm the only child of this generation out of five uncle's/aunt's/mother's/fathers. I have at least a mil in rental property inheretance coming my way.

The problem is progression (drinking with increased frequency and volume). You might not be fine now but in three months you can end up wondering what the fuck happened. It doesn't always happen, and it doesn't happen to everybody - but when it does it happens quickly. It's a true "I'm fucking up my job, relationships and life" moment.
I do dub 40s maybe 4 or 5 times a week, hardly alcoholic, i can go months without, some people kill a handle of 80 proof daily and get the shakes if they dont drink
