You know the drill. Post-punk, gothic rock, industrial, post-industrial, neofolk, darkwave, dark techno and so on.

One of the great unsung bands of the 90s

youtube.com/watch?v=GRNYg9yfxoY

Any more post-punk and noise-punk bands like this? I'm looking for really dissonant harmonies, yelling, guitar noise, high-energy tribal style drumming.

This is what I wish goth punk sounded like. Most other shit I've heard is boring and corny.

youtube.com/watch?v=C5t-_KYtjDk

Oh yeah, and strange, jarring background noises and samples are also a plus.

m.youtube.com/watch?v=ds82xJ2Fh8g

Try this, the first half is more punk/metal, the second half is pure noise. The entire album is somewhat noisy and more influenced by Junkyard era Birthday Party than more boring stuff like Sisters of Mercy.

serpentineskies.bandcamp.com/track/under-a-crimson-moon-i

It's like a weird fusion of feral dark punk with noise, black metal, dark ambient, and industrial.

I can tell they're big fans of Bauhaus and Christian Death.

youtube.com/watch?v=TnAFnCPOK-Y

I dig Bauhaus. Christian Death has some cool harmonies but I'm not a fan of the drumming.

Know anything more recent? To me, post-punk and goth from before the 2000s sounds dated and doesn't really get me going.

It's interesting but doesn't anything for me to be honest. Feels like I'm waiting in line at a venue and I can only hear the muffled noise of multiple stages. They guy has a cool visual aesthetic though.

Perhaps that was the wrong track, as that one is pretty straight forward.

This one is more atmospheric and has the instruments working more in a distinctive manner.

Does any other modern goth band have a better ear for melody?

Love me some dark ambient

This one I like more, but it's almost polar to what I'm looking for, which is hi-fi and high-energy punk.

Modern industrial similar to SPK and TG? I'm completely unaware of what has happened to the genre.

>This one I like more, but it's almost polar to what I'm looking for, which is hi-fi and high-energy punk.
Then maybe the first track.
serpentineskies.bandcamp.com/track/haunted

It jumps around a bit, though the last one is like traditional goth rock with some occasional waxing on black metal and noise.

>I'm completely unaware of what has happened to the genre.

It has splintered off into a variety of other genres, many of which are essentially kitschy gothic disco music with shit aesthetics.
The flame of true industrial is at this point being kept alive largely by noise and power electronics artists.

>The flame of true industrial is at this point being kept alive largely by noise and power electronics artists.
Motherfucking truth. Industrial was more noise when it started out anyway.

I'm not a fan of noise, unless it's a part of other genres (industrial, noise rock, drone). Ramleh on the other hand, I very much enjoy. Diamanda Galas too. Any recommendations based on that?
>The flame of true industrial is at this point being kept alive largely by noise and power electronics artists.
About that, I only have two words for you - Metal Dance. How do you go from a band which Gen has referred to as deranged to whatever Metal Dance made SPK is beyond me.

>Diamanda Galas too.
I've been doing stuff similar to that lately, I won't reveal exactly what.

Well, power electronics as a genre generally is stuck in that space between the more structured and linear sounds of industrial and the abstraction and obliterating volume of "pure" noise/harsh noise music. I think you could probably find a lot of stuff you'd appreciate in the genre.

All the artists which I linked to in the post above are descendants of Ramleh, though much more so their early confrontational and violent era than the painful heavy ambient/drone of Hole In The Heart or their later experimental/noise rock stuff, so I suppose that your appreciation of those artists is also gonna depend on what era of Ramleh you're the most fond of. I could recommend some other PE stuff if you've got any interest in it.

>I could recommend some other PE stuff if you've got any interest in it.
Please do.

Even now, the best way to discover new artists in the "scene" is through keeping up with/exploring the record labels which specialize in this territory, as well as V/A compilations(which have sort of become a throwaway in most other musics and cultures but remain a vital format in the world of PE and noise).
Some of the more significant contemporary record labels:

discogs.com/label/3147-Tesco-Organisation
discogs.com/label/12677-Freak-Animal-Records
discogs.com/label/25823-Hospital-Productions
discogs.com/label/9578-Cold-Spring
discogs.com/label/64805-Unrest-Productions

Some choice compilations:

discogs.com/Various-Projekt-Neue-Ordnung-II/release/9885423
discogs.com/Various-Appeals-Vampyric-Screams/release/6883055
discogs.com/Various-Audial-Decimation-Compilation-Vol-1/release/1405997
discogs.com/Various-Pundartugg-Argot-Bruit/master/796839
discogs.com/Various-Nyrkki-Kyrpä/release/1788947
discogs.com/Various-White-Eye-Of-Winter-Watching/master/386694

This isn't even the tip of the iceberg here though, there's loads of other great shit out there. And I have no idea how familiar you are with any of this stuff, so sorry if you've already heard some of it.
Also, you're probably gonna notice a lot of the same names popping up on these releases/label catalogs as the scene remains quite incestuous and tightly interconnected.

Thank you very much. I guess this board isn't completely dead. By the way, does SPK have live DVDs by any chance? The majority of their work is infinitely better live and they've said so themselves.

Not that I know of, sadly. The Despair VHS was rereleased on DVD like 10 years ago but IIRC both the footage and the sound on the DVD were tampered with/cut compared to the original videotape release.

Speaking of industrial videos, did you ever see Neubauten's Halber Mensch video? Absolutely one of the best fucking things I have ever seen.

Anyone here likes burzum?

>Speaking of industrial videos, did you ever see Neubauten's Halber Mensch video?
I haven't, although I would definitely like to see live performances of Kollaps. One of the most insulting and anti-human pieces of music since Schoenberg and up to Scott Walker's avant-garde period albums. Speaking of live videos, TG's performance at Oundle School is a dream come true for any artist.

>I haven't, although I would definitely like to see live performances of Kollaps.

It's one of the best music-related videos I've ever seen. Recorded in '85 when they were touring in Japan, directed by Sogo Ishii who also directed the great Japanese punk film Burst City in the early 80s.

Partially a normal live video in a proper venue, partially a private live video recorded (where else) in some dilapidated industrial building and partially just a completely fucked up music video.

That and Consumer Electronics' "Public Attack 3" performances are probably two early industrial gigs that I would have liked to have attended the most, just to see the audience reactions.

/dark/ how accurate is this?

I love wumpscut and have listened to most of their stuff, where do I go from there, Hanzel und Gretyl?

Highly rec for dark techno:
Majek by Bengalfuel
Claro by Brothomstates

youtube.com/watch?v=RqtAQbkvKUI anything else like this with the eerie organ?

Probably Nachtmahr or Combichrist if you want more guitars. Or Funker Vogt for more edgy /bleep/.

(another track from the same band, you should really consider checking them out. They were something else, a league of their own)
